Populaire Modern Bistro 3333 Bristol St unit 2601, Costa Mesa French • $$$

“3 companions and I dined at Populaire Modern Bistro in South Coast Plaza on 2/21/24 and I ordered the prix fixe menu. We bought a bottle of wine separately. The PF menu was $65 per person and well worth it. Everything was spectacular. The blending of flavors with the heirloom carrots was unique. I'm not normally a huge fan of tartare normally, but it was really flavorful. The beef cheek was melt-in-your-mouth tender and even the rice pudding - which I can normally take or leave - had some wonderful, unexpected flavors. Don't be fooled by the "bistro" label. This was definitely a cut above the normal bistro fare of steak and frites or Croque Monsieur. Our server was warm and efficient. She was friendly enough to stop and talk but took her cue from us, which was much appreciated. The location used to be part of the Corner Bakery chain. It was remodeled in part, but it's in South Coast Plaza mall so not a ton of atmosphere. Once you taste the food, you won't care!”

“To be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect with Atomic being in an office complex. I have to say this place looks like an oasis among the offices when you pull up. Plenty of parking and a nice setup when you go inside. Seating is available outside or inside. On to the food. I loved the breakfast burrito. Not greasy like other places, the pico de gallo was very fresh and specifically prepared to not make the burrito soggy. One of the best breakfast burritos I’ve ever had! We also had sausage dumplings that were awesome. The service was excellent and the prices were reasonable. Highly recommend checking out Atomic Cafe, I plan to make it a regular stop.Parking: Convenient spots available right in front of the restaurant.Wheelchair accessibility: Atomic is on the first floor with good wheelchair access. The sidewalk could be a little narrow but doable. High and low tables available.”

“Flavorful food made quick! The spicy BBQ chicken wrap was a good deal at $12 and was just right to fill me up. The chicken has a nice medium spice that stays for a minute, and the hot sauce packets add more punch and flavor. I'd recommend asking for "white sauce" on top of the meat, then add veggies and get a second helping of white sauce. Nobody seemed perturbed at me being a transgender woman.Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian and even vegan options. Staff were knowledgeable about ingredients.Dietary restrictions: As I said with the vegetarian options, staff are quite knowledgeable about ingredients, and were helpful confirming the white sauce doesn't have dairy (just eggs).Parking: You might have to circle an aisle to find parking spots, but it's not nearly as bad as other lots like the mitsuwa.Wheelchair accessibility: Tables are spaced well enough and you could easily move aside a chair. The menu screen is up high but you can also check it on your phone. There are no steps nor ramps at the restaurant, and plenty of wheelchair parking spots and ramps out front. I don't believe the front door is powered.”

“This place has been around for a long time, and there's good reason why, when most fast food restaurants go out of business in a few years. I first ate here almost 20 years ago when I lived in the area. I left many years ago but whenever I am in the area, I still make it a point to go have their chicken burrito. It is that awesome. The burrito consists of just shredded chicken with sauce wrapped in tortilla. No rice, beans or anything else. That's what makes it so unique, and honestly, the best tasting burrito I've ever had. Highly recommended for Mexican food lovers.”

“Yes I got a burrito from one of there locations in San Bernardino California and it had a long piece of blonde hair in my burrito I returned it back to them and said how nasty it was to find hair in my burrito. They returned my money I ask for there customer service number to report what I found in my burrito a long piece of blonde hair so I spoke to someone she listened to my complaint and wrote everything down and said someone from upper management would call me. I have not heard back from no one yet I have called back three more times left my name and phone number and until today no call to me. Wow this is crazy hair in the food is nasty but for them to believe it’s not that big of a deal because they returned my money hell what about my pride I still get sick at my stomach just thinking about it.”

“We went to this restaurant on a recommendation from a family member. We rounded up to a 4 out of 5 but I think it was closer to 3.5 due to the flavor of the food and the atmosphere. The drinks were pretty delicious I must say. I had a royal tea which has gin and Brandy and it was absolutely amazing. The presentation was also really nice with a circular ice cube that had a flower inside of it. I also had a margarita which was very tasty as well. So the drinks were definitely on point. As far as the food, to me it was just a little disappointing for the price point they are at. We did have an appetizer of choosing three cheeses. All three cheeses didn't seem to have a lot of flavor and we're very similar to each other as well so pretty disappointing there.I had ordered the scallops and wagyu meatballs as well as a rare 8 oz filet. All of the food was cooked very well to my liking, however all three dishes lacked flavor and I had to add salt and pepper to all of them which was a little disappointing again considering the price point of all of them. The steak alone was 60 dollars and was just not seasoned at all. Even the sauces that food was laying on just didn't have flavor and tasted very bland. I will say every tapas dish did a good job of incorporating different textures which was really nice, just wish they had some flavor as well. The service was very well. Our waitress was extremely nice and was on top of everything. They brought us everything in a timely manner which was actually faster than we had thought. The food also came out very hot and seem to taste very fresh as well which was really nice to see.I do think the atmosphere was a little off as all the tables were very tight and very close to each other, just made it hard to get out sometimes to go to the bathroom or anything like that cuz you had to move the entire table and once they started filling up it got pretty loud and you just felt really close to the table next to you especially if they were talking loud or anything like that.Overall we did enjoy our experience, we were just a disappointed with the food or the lack of flavor on the food. I would definitely go back for drinks as they were unique and the bar had some really cool features and choices of drink there.”

“First time here! The atmosphere and decor are very inviting, plus they have TVs so the people in our party interested in sports didn't have to miss out on the Women's basketball game.We came on a Friday at 4 pm and were able to get seated immediately. The server Dylan was super conversational and made some stellar recommendations off the HH menu. Our party of four all shared the shishito peppers, Bahn mi, burgers, crudo (not HH), but the best thing we had were the Brussel sprouts! They top it with crispy fried sweet potato strings. To finish up our dining experience, we also had their mini version of a pizookie and creme brulee cheesecake. Highly recommend this place for great food and fun Vibes ?”

“We have come here several times to have drinks and appetizers at the bar. Quick and friendly service, happy hour is M-F from 3pm to 5pm with signature cocktails being $10. Loved their king pao brussel sprouts with a not too spicy drizzle and peanuts. The calamari is so crispy and crunchy with a ton of diced peppers, jalapeños and pepperocinis. Comes with a great dipping sauce. Had the Amelia drink with vodka, super refreshing.”

“Karl Strauss is 5 stars I don’t care who you are! 3 of us had dinner and drinks. Blackened Tuna tacos are big and tasty. The pub burger was a good burger. The food truck burger also good. Mac and cheese a treat. However the boneless sweet Chile garlic wing stole the show. For drinks we had the Poseidon stout - awesome smooth stout!”

“i took my younger brother to this place when he went to college at UC Irvine, and whenever i muster the balls to spend the money, i'll take the drive to visit this great place (the bill between two people is often 200 dollars, food + drinks), although, we're big eaters, and if you're conservative, i imagine you can keep the bill under a 100 bucks between two.it's awesome. just amazing. the quality of their beef and the willingness of the staff to bend over backwards for you is just incredible.”

“My favorite kidney flower is made here with pickled pepper flavor and sauerkraut in it. The kidney flower is also very fresh and tender. The only drawback is that the kidney flower content is too little, the knife skills are lacking, and the thickness and size of the kidney flower are very irregular. The beef in the Boiled Beef and Fat Sausage Double Combo was a very thin slice of meat, not marinated for flavor, and the meat selected was relatively poor; the cold vegetable scallion chicken was a tender chicken, which was not flavorful enough, and the presentation was not bad. This small restaurant is Sichuan cuisine eaten by Chinese people. It is not catered to foreigners, but the spicy taste is mild, so it is suitable for spicy beginners.”

“My wife and I decided to dine at Sevilla’s last night and it was our absolute best dining decision in quite a while! Let me start off by saying Sevilla’s has an amazing Happy Hour and it now goes until 7pm and on weekends too!!!!! $10 cocktails, 50% off their cold and hot Tapas, like are you for real!? On top of that… each dish was incredibly delicious so hats off to the cooks. We also had the pleasure of having Paul be our waiter while he had a new hire shadowing whose name was Bryan. Bryan was respectful and observant on how Paul did his service so props to him.As for Paul… Sevilla is blessed to have such a genuine and engaging employee who gave amazing food and drink recommendations… always knew when to check in with us and when to let us be… he walked the line incredibly well and thanks to his service, Sevilla’s food and lastly the business owners decision to have such an amazing happy hour policy - my wife and I will be coming back routinely now.Thank you Sevilla for a lovely dining experience!”

“Nothing fishy about this place. It's a small family run business. Blame covid for the price increases and there are sign posted to make you aware of the increase. it's the best food and most reasonable prices in town. if you cant afford a 11 dish then don't buy or complain about it. These reviews are for the food not whiners.”

“This is my favorite restaurant! I loved it back when it was on Bristol, but I have been back to the new Red Hill location twice now and it is even more of a special dining experience. Massimo has come out to explain the history of the wine and food and the sources of his ingredients. He tells wonderful stories with a great sense of humor, and his daughter who helps serve is also very knowledgeable and delightful. I feel transported and hosted in a way I have never experienced in a restaurant. The food is amazing. The fresh handmade pasta melts in your mouth. We have eaten every dessert and they are all spectacular. Every wine and appetizer we have tried has been extraordinary. I couldn't recommend this place more.”

“Delish and great staff. The staff IS family and they treat not only their customers like family, but the other staff as well. That means a lot. We had a fun time with DJ and Pleng. About the food... We had 4 dishes... Hanuman's ceviche, Tom Kha Gai, Massaman, Pad See Ew and a nice glass of Malbec. My favorites were the ceviche and Massaman. But everything was so good. Hubs liked everything. There was literally no wait at 3 pm but come soon... Once word gets out this place will have a 45 min wait just like the mother location on Bristol.”

“No more Umami burgers, but tacos and burritos.Such a cute new scenery. It has beach-barrio vibes with the old school Coca-Cola tin tables that you would see down in Cabo but with a brick wall surrounding and the typical taco stand look.We had the burritos for breakfast and they were great. The mushroom burrito is definitely for mushroom lovers and/or vegetarians since they can be overpowering in the flavor. My boyfriend had the grilled chicken and he said it was better than pollo locos burritos.Their house-made chips and guacamole is delicious. Overall it was a really good experience.”
