“01.22.25 'Big Al's Reel Reviews' - Norm's Diner, Groton CT I finally got off of work🚒👨🏾‍🚒 after being in the Great City of New London for 3 days so I immediately made my way over the Goldstar Bridge and into the City of Groton where I dropped into a local breakfast spot called Norm's Diner. I wanted to find out if this spot was any good so I ordered Sausage Gravy over biscuits, a side of Grits and a cup of Coffee. The big question is, "Is this spot a great place 👍🏾 or is it a Dud 👎🏾?" Well... This place is Off the Hook!! The atmosphere and the service is amazing!! I was served a delicious meal and kept entertained at the same time!! “Was very disappointed when we took friends of ours there and told them how good the bread was but when we ordered from Jack was told the bread now costs and yet we were there two weeks ago and bread was offered. Also we had to ask Jack what the specials were and he acted put out. What a change from two weeks ago with waiter Greg who was awesome“

“Disappointing. Not the friendly service you expect from Panera. I have been going here for years, and they changed all the recipes for the worse. The soufflés are not soufflés. They are puff pastry with scrambled eggs. The puff pastry is touch and doesn't cook well. Their baguettes used to be authentic. Now, they are a loaf of bread. The quality if the turkey has gone down. No more metal utensils. It is almost impossible to cut a soufflé with their cheap plastic knife. They don't check their coffee levels and they run out constantly. Complaints to the manager did nothing. You'd not hear the word thank you anymore. They don't ask for your pabeta rewards card. They don't ask if you want to use your rewards. They charge you the wrong amount. This can't all be the fault of the cashier. Where is the manager? I could go on.

Kid-friendliness: I have always brought my kids here, but they don't have anything geared towards kids. Beware of the highly caffeinated teas.“

Portion size is perfect as we like options. Also great for sharing. Our selections easily fed 4. half of our dinner was taken home as it was too delicious to leave behind. “This place has been on my list for a while and finally, on a road trip to Boston, we had the opportunity to stop. I went for the almond croissant and pecan sticky bun and they absolutely delivered. Scrumptious. Definitely recommend ordering ahead of time and scheduling a time to pick it up if you can.“

This place looks so surprisingly different from other Mediterranean restaurants. It is beautiful and still modern. Colorful chairs and nice decorations!
The food is delicious and neatly placed on the plates. The platters portions are large, you'll be stuffed. The pita sandwiches are also going to fill you up pretty well.
You don't have to wait for long, the food comes pretty quickly. Well worth the price.

Vegetarian options: You can have soup and falafel.“

Warm and filling, we prefer the New England. We got the Rockefeller from reviews and didn’t realize it was baked, very good but will just stick to the Raw Bar when we come back. At the same time they have also earned a 'Big Al's 💎 Gem Review'. I walked into a very warm and inviting welcome from the Owner's daughter named Ellen. She was so sweet and even introduced me to her father, Herb's who recently turned 95yrs old about a week ago. I was welcomed by the whole staff and I had such a wonderful server named Dawn! She is truly the Best!! Thank you Dawn! ❤️ I can keep going on and on about how great this spot is so.... Let me continue. The atmosphere is perfect. There are decent options for food and drinks... I have yet to try something I don't like. The atmosphere is warm, elegant, and comfortable. “My husband and I ate at your establishment last night to celebrate our anniversary and my birthday which fall in the same day,while the restaurant is beautiful and the food was superb, my husbands steak came out virtually raw instead so we had to send it back, who on earth would take a $75 dry aged steak that was cut off the bone and cut through the center throw not only the steak but the bone back in the grill and have the nerve ti send it back out ti a customer? The manager was very apologetic and made them cook him another steak but my huge issue is, we went out ti dine together and celebrate milestones, I had to eat alone while he waited and by the time his steak came out the remainder of the sides were stone cold, I feel like at the least something from that meal should have at least been deducted from our almost $200 bill! “I went there a few months ago and got a steak, I want to say it was the strip steak. It was cooked to perfection and the side was perfect as well. I went last night and got the wings, they were supposed to be maple sriracha? I tasted neither. The dip wasn't all that great just overall flat meal, and the wings were rubbery I like them crispy which is my fault I probably should have asked for them crispy? Not terrible but could have been great.“

“I went here with my family and let me tell you, it is the definition of FEEL GOOD PLACE! It is a cozy little cafe with 80’s or maybe earlier, handheld games spread throughout the cafe. While we waited we enjoyed playing many games I hadn’t played in years! While we were just chit chatting, all the sudden marshmallow come flying at us! My daughter thought it was so cool, we looked over to see one of the ladies shooting them from behind the counter. She came over a little while later to squirt ketchup and mustard at us, it was a prank but very funny! It was really just a string. To top it off, she brings a small claw machine so my daughter could play it and win some prizes. We found out that they feed squirrels that come up to the window, so we inquired and one of the women tried to get the squirrel to come so we could see it. Unfortunately it did not happen but honestly, just left feeling like my soul was warmed. The food was amazing! The coffee was hot and all the women working there were truly a delight! I wish I lived closer, I’d definitely become a regular. Best part- aside from taking some photos for memories, no one was on their phone. Just really enjoying the cafe and experience.“
