“📅 08.25.25 WRITTEN REVIEW Big Al’s Reel Reviews – Episode 154 Pink Basil 💎 Village of Mystic Connecticut (Olde Mistick Village) Mystic you didn’t disappoint me tonight. Pink Basil came through in a major way. From the moment I walked in the atmosphere was buzzing with energy, families locals and tourists all enjoying the Village vibe. The food the service and the whole experience had me locked in from start to finish. By the end of this meal there was no question… this one goes down as a Big Al’s 💎 Gem Spot. Service & Atmosphere: The service here was absolutely top notch. My host Payton got me started right. My server Mark handled everything perfectly... attentive professional and just an all around wonderful guy. Flora also stepped in with great support and I even got a photo with Travis the bartender. Behind the sushi counter two chefs were working hard and delivered rolls that blew me away. The whole team made this meal stand out. The atmosphere inside Pink Basil is vibrant and welcoming.... it’s clear why this place stays busy. Here’s what I lined up for this visit: 1️⃣ Shrimp Tempura Sushi Roll 6 pcs- $13.95 Crispy flavorful and the perfect start. 💣 Bomb 2️⃣ Salmon Sushi Roll 6 pcs- $8.95 Even better than the tempura absolutely delicious. 💣 Bomb 3️⃣ Cashew Nut with Chicken- $17.95 Crispy chicken with onions carrots sauce and rice. Perfect balance of flavor and texture- exciting the palate. 💣 Bomb 4️⃣ Khao Soi with Duck- $26.95 Flavors exploding textures amazing. Absolutely delicious in every form. 💣 Bomb 5️⃣ Spicy Chili Garlic Noodles with Beef- $16.95 Bold flavors great spice cooked perfectly. 💣 Bomb ✅ Final Take: Pink Basil delivered a flawless performance. Every single dish earned a bomb the service was incredible and the atmosphere was on point. This is what I call the full package- food that excites staff that cares and a vibe that makes you want to come back. For me that makes Pink Basil a certified Big Al’s 💎 Gem Spot. ☝🏾❤️- Big Al Mayo “See you on the Rebound Peace✌🏾out”“

“The oyster club puts an aggressive focus on the ingredients themselves. Less fanfare, more flavor.
The warm nautical interior seats a number of groups comfortably as well as having a spacious bar top for singles and couples.
The bartenders are knowledgeable and the staff have that calm conspiratorial air befitting delicate opulence. I sat alone at the bar enjoying a quiet afternoon to myself and was handled by one of the two bartenders who talked me through the menu in casual conversation. All my food arrived in sequence thereafter without her so much as writing anything down.
I enjoyed a selection of local oysters, fresh and delicious. Followed by a course of seasonal vegetables, sliced tomatoes in oil with dollops of cream and braised radishes in a lemon butter sauce that paired decedantly with the fat slabs of homemade sourdough.
For my entree I did a catch of the day which was cooked to perfection.
Oyster club is not about elegant technique or fancy recipes, the menu is short and printed on paper as it is ever-changing.
I will have to come back to try their tree house experience overlooking the river.“

“My family lives in Mystic so I stop into Sift whenever I don't see a line outside (weekends can get hectic). Today I got the chicken salad sandwich on a croissant and it was phenomenal. I also tried the La Cherry pastry which was also delicious and really well made. There are tons of baked goods like croissants and cookies as well as other kinds of sandwiches and coffees. Definitely worth a stop!“

“I've only been here a few times, but I can confidently say that the staff is always extremely welcoming, friendly, warm, and pleasant. I've never had a bad time or inconvenience there. There are decent options for food and drinks... I have yet to try something I don't like. The atmosphere is warm, elegant, and comfortable. I definitely recommend giving this place a chance if you haven't yet! The Staff and Owner make sure that everyone present is happy, safe, and satisfied. 🙌“

“I loved the popover and I had a great salad too! The place itself was small and crowded. Would like to try again sometime when there aren’t so many people.“

“We didn’t have the best experience for Valentine’s Day but we came back and had a much more enjoyable experience tonight ! Service and food were both great . We will be back 😀“
“Our first time visit to the area and Mystic Diner was recommended. We enjoyed their breakfast several mornings. Clean, friendly, attentive staff, many selections, breakfast all day, reasonable prices. Lots of desserts but didn't try any. They have a take out window. If it looks like they're packed and long wait, go in anyway, the place is huge. It happened to us and there were plenty of tables/booths available.“

“This restaurant has a nice, clean interior and is very comfortable overall. We ordered karaage chicken, sushi, tantan ramen, miso soup, and Thai tea, and everything tasted excellent. The karaage chicken was the standout - light, crispy, and perfectly paired with a simple sauce that worked really well.
My only note was the chashu pork in the tantanmen, which was quite bland and a bit tough to chew. Chashu should always be slow-cooked for several hours and rich in flavor. That said, the broth, noodles, and ramen egg were all great. The broth could be slightly creamier, in my opinion, but it was still very enjoyable.
Service was okay overall. One of the servers (an Asian woman) came across as a bit dismissive and not very welcoming, though the other staff we interacted with seemed friendly.
Overall, a very good experience. Vacation restaurants can sometimes feel like tourist traps or money grabs with underwhelming food, but this one was a pleasant surprise.“

And they absolutely did. In fact, this spot just became a Big Al’s 💎 Gem Spot. Here’s how it all went down: 1️⃣ Wood-Fired Wings (Buffalo) - $15.95 BOMB! 💣 Eight perfectly wood-fired wings- crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with buffalo sauce that hits just right. The blue cheese dressing deserves its own shoutout 💣😎 2️⃣ Oma’s Real Meatball Sandwich- $17.50 BOMB! 💣 These wood-roasted, hand-rolled meatballs were full of flavor and smothered in rich pomodoro sauce, tucked inside toasted rustic bread with melted provolone and parmesan. It comes with potato chips and a fresh crunchy pickle. 3️⃣ Small Mango’s Mozzarella Pie- ½ Mozzarella/Funky Monkey- $19.95 💣 DOUBLE BOMB! The cheese half? The best cheese pizza I’ve had on this side of the Thames River, perfect crust, flawless sauce-to-cheese ratio. The Funky Monkey half? 💣💣 DOUBLE BOMB! “My husband and I visited S & P Oyster Co. on our honeymoon, and it truly could not have been a more exquisite experience. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, inviting, and perfect for a special occasion. We started with fresh oysters on the half shell, pan-seared octopus, and pan-seared scallops, each dish was beautifully prepared and absolutely outstanding. For our entrées, we enjoyed the sesame-encrusted yellowfin tuna and the homemade squid ink pasta, both of which were exceptional in flavor and quality. Our waiter, Jeff, made the night even more memorable. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and kind, offering wonderful recommendations and never rushing us. The drinks were fantastic as well and complemented the meal perfectly. S & P Oyster Co. gave us a honeymoon dinner we will never forget. We can’t recommend this place enough and can’t wait to return. We make it a point to come every year!“
