“Food was excellent and very healthy. I had the chicken and broccoli combination platter. It was some of the best I ever had. Chicken was nice and tender and very crispy. Broccoli and carrots were very delicious. Definitely will be going back. House of Chao is my new favorite Chinese restaurant. Would recommend to anyone who is passing through the Westville New Haven area and looking for good quality Chinese food ??“

“So this amazing place was recommended by a friend from Madison and it did not disappoint! Authentic Szechuan in a beautiful room with high ceilings and soothing decor and music. One dish was better than the last and you cannot get this quality anywhere locally as far as I've been to. Go for yourselves and enjoy. Somehow we received cheesecake and chocolate ganache cake for dessert complements of the place! Even better!😂“

“this food is the bomb.com. its well seasoned nothing i got was nasty. this is some of the best rice ive had from a chinese joint. the only thing is the egg roll might have a little extra oil because 1 of mines had a lot of oil but it was the only one like that. but yeah even the soup is good and they are very nice which i never thought i would care about but the are actually have a pleasant energy. no delivery, and cash only. but worth it imo.“

“The food was overall very delicious! Everything tasted very high quality 👌👌however, my one criticism would be that each dish had a little bit too much of one quality- the soup noodle was a little bit too sour and takes getting used to, the other noodle was a bit dry, and the cucumbers were very refreshing but a bit too sweet for me. I would still highly recommend all of these dishes though !!“

“I live down the street and I can’t believe it has taken me this long to try out this little gem. Part of this is because of the so-so reviews. Upon further inspection, a lot of the negative reviews were because the shop only accepts cash and they are so busy it can seem like the service is curt when calling to place an order. When we called, the person taking the order was efficient and we had no trouble. Plus, when we picked everything up, the food we ordered was delicious and fresh. May be the best Chinese takeout I’ve had in years! Well worth giving this place a try if you haven’t already. I’ve uploaded an updated menu with more recent prices.“

“I can't believe after moving away and coming back 15 year later this icon of a restaurant is still open. From middle school til highschool this place was my staple. OMG they added new ideas but the vibe is still the same. I love coming home and seeing thing are not so different. So proud of this restaurant and it long years of service. 💜“

The location is unfortunately in an urban area where there’s heavy criminal activity but nevertheless, criminals have to eat too lol. “I have been ordering from this restaurant for probably about 15 to 20 years and right now I’m not driving. Usually I will go pick my food up in order to ensure it’s freshness and all of that stuff because I’m a real stickler however I’m glad I didn’t allow for the negative reviews to discourage me because I placed my order for something that I’ve been craving so badly and everything arrived fresh everything was hot. “Came here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. This is your classic American Chinese spot. No frills but the food was on point and the service was quick. I had the orange chicken and it was delicious. Prices are great. Don’t be scared off by the bad reviews.“

I got the plain fried rice with Chicken broccoli ?.. it was delicious I also got some Chicken wings I love them as well very juicy … however, I was not too crazy for the shrimp egg rolls… they were not crispy n had an after taste to them … not sure if the oil is frequently changed … it taste it kinda oily n stale n they were not crispy at all and I forgot to ask for soy sauce n hot sauce n they did not included a few packs , normally when I order from other places , they include some soy sauce whether i ask for it or not… but the rice with Chiken brócoli ? n wings were very tasty n delicious ?.. the driver was very friendly n fast service … I would come here again but I would not be getting the egg rolls from here… was kinda disappointed with the egg rolls!!!“

“The food is exactly what is advertised: solid, affordable, fast Chinese takeout. Not much has changed in the 35 years since I first had Main Garden. Chicken and broccoli is still my go-to order. You don't go here for atmosphere. Stick with the tried-and-true and you will be happy.“
