“Cool Basil has been a long time favorite of my wife and I. We hadn’t been there in a while when we stopped in for lunch today. The atmosphere was noticeably different. They were playing a funky smooth jazz music where every song sounded the same. I liked the previous light/classic rock mix much better. The staff seems to have completely changed since we were last in. We didn’t recognize anyone, whereas we were on a first name basis with much of the previous staff. The service was noticeably slower and less friendly. The food was still very good. I ordered my usual spice level 2 and it was very, very hot. Much hotter than it used to be. I’m just wondering if they are under new ownership or management because it is a very different experience from a year ago. I still recommend Cool Basil, it’s just not the familiar place that we loved anymore.“

“Visited from out of town and 100% worth the stop. I ordered the Grilled Turkey pesto sandwich and the single serving Oreo cheesecake. The sandwich was bigger than I expected and was absolutely delicious, especially as a big pesto fan. The cheesecake was amazing and the best I’ve ever had. I would absolutely recommend coming here and I can’t wait to be able to go back and try all the delicious looking pastries, breads, and other desserts and foods.“

“My family and I recently stopped at Smash Park in Des Moines on a whim for some family fun and food. The atmosphere was laid back and our kids thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor pickle ball courts and the arcade. Food, dessert and drinks were all crowd pleasers! And to go completely over the top, we left our blanket outside and Jerry answered my phone call, went outside to retrieve it from the bench where I left it, and mailed it back to me free of charge. “This is our first time here and it was amazing! The atmosphere is straight out of the 80s/90s and being a GenX it was awesome! Even the menu was a flash back to the past. The food was phenomenal! Their breakfast potatoes were to die for and I don’t do hash browns usually. Chelsey S was a top of the line server. The only minor complaint was the hostess didn’t know if they served Pepsi or Coke products. Just seemed odd her not knowing. I would hands down recommend this for a breakfast place.“

“I was excited to try this place. As a longtime vegetarian of 15+ years, I haven’t gotten to eat biscuits and gravy in a while. The guilt free b&g was so good. I also really wanted to try the French toast. Either the banana foster or the Dutch apple. But I knew that would’ve too much food so I asked for a single piece of French toast with the bourbon caramel on the side. The kitchen went way above and made it a mini foster with the banana slices and nut on the side too!!! That caramel … oh that was so yummy. The French toast itself wasn’t very sweet but when pair with the caramel was perfect. As this is vacation I decided to go ahead and do the mimosas flight. It you are considering it if you go here… do it! (They also offer a non-alcoholic flight which is awesome).“

They went above and beyond to fix our issue, and because of that, we will continue to be customers. The food was phenomenal- especially the arugula was and the pork and polenta. “So we saw that Dave Portnoy had posted a review of CentroDSM. Couldn’t believe we had not tried it yet as we are always looking for good pizza and we only live 5 minutes away. Well we ordered online and it said it would be ready at 8pm tonight. I got there at 8pm. Got home and I could already tell on the car ride home the pizza was cold. Now the flavor was all the way there. But the pizza was cold and chewy. This is disappointing as I’m sure if it was hot it would not be so chewy. They need to give accurate times so the pizza is still hot. I have also messaged them with no response.“

I called ahead and asked if we could bring in a cake, etc... they were MORE than accommodating. They said whatever we needed! They kept it a secret until we finished our dinner. Brought out the cake, lit the candles, provided extra plates, a knife to cut it and were SO kind. Thank you guys all SO much! My daughter was thrilled (and embarrassed). Excellent dinner too!“
