“The food is great. Excellent BBQ with a wide selection of good beer options. We had a great meal. The bbq is pricey but I can see it being worth it for the quality as a treat every once in a while. However, the additional sales tax at the end of the meal was quite the surprise. 11.75% sales tax to dine at a restaurant is way too high. The tax was also 11.5% at Jarlings to have some ice cream so seems to be a Champaign wide thing. This is way too high on top of all the other taxes we already pay in this state. We will likely avoid traveling to Champaign in the future to dine when the are other towns and good options like Effingham that have more reasonable tax rates. Nothing against Black Dog obviously. I know they don’t have any control over local government tax rates.“

“He is just a one man show, so its impressive what he can do. The food feels not like fast food in that its addictive or amazing but rather it feels homemade and fresh (because he's literally cooking it right there in front of you). It feels less like I've gone out to eat and more like I sat down for my uncle to cook me something wholesome. The portion is generous and fit for two meals, especially since the incredibly diverse/loaded salad and the free fruit he gave fills you up. This is my first time and it won't be my last (the hours are my main issue but knowing its just him working I can't blame him).“

I sat at the bar as I was dining alone and the bartender did a great job of explaining the various items I inquired about as well as suggesting a perfect craft beer pairing. I only get to Champaign a couple of times a year, but this will be my go-to anytime in the area.“

“What a unique dining experience! This Chinese restaurant in Champaign,IL operates on a self-service model that keeps costs down—they don’t charge tips, only a very small cleanup fee.
When you walk in, you grab a menu, notepad, and pen, find your own table, write down the menu item numbers you want, then bring your order to the cashier and pay. They accept both cash and credit cards with no extra fee for card payments.
The menu selection is enormous—probably one of the largest Chinese restaurant menus I’ve ever seen. There are so many options that everyone should be able to find something they like.
Guests also help themselves to tea, drinks, utensils, napkins, and teapots, which makes the whole process simple and efficient. Despite the extensive menu, the food arrived surprisingly fast.
Another plus is the ample parking, making it easy to visit even during busy times.
If you’re looking for delicious food, quick service, great value, and don’t mind a little self-service, this place is definitely worth checking out. I will definitely be back!“

“I’m very pleased and impressed with China King! From the service, to the food, and everything else. The lady who ran the front end is very sweet and friendly. I felt comfortable when I walked in, and she also helped me navigate the menu. Food came out in just over 5min. I got the chicken and broccoli lunch special with white rice and a crab rangoon. This was just over $10, which is a nice deal. The food was hot, fresh, and tasted excellent. The flavors were plentiful, and the portion was more than fair. I ended up taking some home. I highly recommend, and, I’ve said this about other Chinese restaurants in the area, but I truly think that this is one of, if not the best Chinese cuisine in the C-U area. Definitely will be back.“

“I love this restaurant so much. It is easily in my top 5 restaurants of all time. Jipbap has everything you could want in a restaurant—amazing food, good selection, great service. I recommend the tofu or bulgogi and suggest adding egg! It’s worth noting that we accidentally arrived just 15 minutes before closing because we were unaware of their summer hours and they graciously took our order anyway. The food was absolutely incredible—our friends and family raved all night! The family-style service made the evening feel warm, personal, and exactly how a rehearsal dinner should feel as we brought two families together. I was able to drop off menus, place cards, and signage beforehand, and they gladly set everything up, making the tables look beautiful. “Excellent food, never had a bad meal here. A very good spot if you have a short lunch break, I'm usually in and out within ten minutes. Ordering is sometimes a little awkward because the staff speaks limited English and I speak no Chinese, but pointing and nodding and smiling has always gotten me a wonderful meal anyway. I recommend the roasted pork with mushrooms, comes with mixed veg and a lot of savory sauce for your rice.“

“Been there a few times now and it’s fun and all, but every time late into the night the upper floor is completely wet. Wet is an understatement, I’m talking huge puddles of liquid, like I could swim in it. Other then that the place is fun to go to for $20 a person.“

“Our order took a while to arrive.
I ordered a chicken teriyaki bowl, which had the options of over brown rice, romaine lettuce, or roasted root vegetables. I chose the roasted root vegetables. They were nothing more than undercooked sliced carrots! Four thin strips of chicken breast and a tiny bit of shredded cabbage on top of carrots is not a teriyaki bowl, even with sauce on the side. I would not recommend it, even if it were priced lower than $12.95.

My husband said his Italian hoagie was very good.

“Centrally located, affordable prices, decent selection of food, and everyday has a different drink special - it doesn’t get better than this for a campus bar. Don’t forget to ride the rail!

Highly recommend the fish sandwich. It’s weird to recommend seafood in central Illinois, but trust me, it is so good. Service can be a little slow when they get busy, but I can’t fault them for that. Know how to get the bartenders attention and you’ll get your drink no problem. Overall a great campus bar.“
