“This is our family's favorite restaurant for birthdays, anniversaries, dinners with large groups...At this point we've been here probably 10 times and never once have we had a bad experience. Every server goes above and beyond to ensure that you have a WOW experience. The food and drinks are amazing every time. Last night we decided to try somewhere new since we just ate at Primo the previous weekend. The prices were the same yet the service and food did not compare. From now on we'll stick with here, where we know we'll have an amazing experience.“

“We've not been there since 2017 due to relocation but have nothing but fond memories of Dover Straits. When we bought our house in Grayslake in 1995, our realtor took us there to celebrate. We continued going, mainly for birthdays, anniversaries or impress out of towners, and were never disappointed. We have immediate access to super fresh seafood in Florida but miss the ambiance and supper club vibe Dover Straits provided. Loved that the owners always greeted us like we were worth a million bucks.“

“I really enjoyed celebrating my birthday on Sunday for brunch. The food was amazing the drinks were delicious and the service was excellent. The servers were very attentive. The DJ was on point as well. I will for sure be back for brunch soon.“

“Attended a per wedding event. There were 30 persons in attendance. The salad, bread, fresh green beans were great. Along with the beef . I was surprised as the restaurant is known for their seafood, the honey glazed salmon tasted very fishy.“

“We came to Sophia Steak for our anniversary and had a great server- Carol. She took care to help me with my dietary needs and made the meal so special. They gave us a little champagne toast and special anniversary menus. It was all the little touches that make it perfect. And then there’s the steak! Next level taste, quality and sides. “This is easily one of my favorite places for Mexican seafood! 🌮🦐 Every visit has been delicious, and the amazing flavors always keep me coming back for more. 😋 The fried red snapper is perfectly cooked-crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside. 🐟 The octopus and shrimp cocktail is incredibly fresh, flavorful, and without a doubt one of the best I've had in the area. 🍤 The prices are very reasonable, making it a great spot for a family dinner or even a quick takeout meal. 😊 The portions are generous, the quality is consistently excellent, and the service is always welcoming. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves fresh seafood and authentic Mexican cuisine!“

“Food was good, came out hot and fresh and once we were seated the staff were fairly attentive. I would definitely come back again, but there were a few things I noticed that they should improve on which would upgrade this to a 5 star rating.

Firstly, when we arrived no one was there to greet or seat us. We stood around looking like lost foreigners until another Spanish speaking customer mentioned something to the lady behind the counter who finally said “Oh, are you here to dine in or carry out?”

Secondly, we had a food safety issue with two entrees we ordered which were quickly remade. They did apologize a few times, but from a customer service perspective they should have done a little more to make things right. I don’t want to go into details on what happened with the food, but something like that warranted at least a comp of some kind. Doesn’t need to be free meals for all, but throwing in an appetizer or dessert or something small would have been a good gesture considering the severity of the issue. That really left a bad taste in my mouth as there seemed to be no accountability from the restaurant there.

After all is said and done, stuff happens and I get they’re a small business. Just providing some constructive feedback in hopes they will try to do better because the food is pretty good.“

“Not gonna lie, we were a little concerned trying it based on the previous reviews, but our experience was excellent. We opted for dinner at the bar and started off with the delicious lobster roll. For dinner we went the seafood route and had the salmon risotto and the pan fried redfish with polenta. Side dishes were the local mushrooms and potatoes au gratin. Everything was cooked perfectly, came up quickly, and the service at the bar was on-point. Considering the amount of food we had and a few cocktails, we felt the price was very reasonable. We will not hesitate to stop in again.“
