“My favorite ice cream in all of Chicago. Homemade fresh every single day so when they run out that’s it! I love that this is a small business with so much heart. The flavors are incredible. The goat cheese cashew caramel is my go to and a fan favorite. The Italian Cookie tastes exactly like biscoff cookies. Serving size is perfect. Each scoop is not too big nor too small, and every bite is packed with flavor. They have amazing options for vegans too, so many dairy free options and days where they only serve dairy free! Staff are super sweet, there is lovely little outdoor patio area with string lights and tables under shady trees. My favorite spot to grab ice cream with friends (or solo!) and sit awhile. I have been eating Black Dog for the last 5 years and I can’t recommend it enough.“

“Service was amazing and ice cream was excellent! We went without reading reviews with our 3 year old. He doesn’t scare easily, but the super loud music and scary animal farm theme was… a lot. Just not what I normally expect at an ice cream “shoppe” (shoppe with that spelling always has a quant vibe), with quotes on the walls about dead humans and such. Clearly a lot of love goes into the decor, and I’m not tucking anyone else’s yum- hence the five stars. But I did worry that the mannequins and paintings might give a young kid some nightmares. Fortunately he mostly looked at the ceiling, which is a super cool cloudscape. So, yeah. Amazing service, ice cream, and super friendly… just feels at odds with the decor.“

“Holy sweet mother of god. A four panel menu of ice cream is amazingly overwhelming. The sundaes don't skimp on the ice cream or the toppings. They're huuuuuge and delicious. The ambiance takes you back on time where one didn't need to worry about pesky things like calories. Service was prompt and attentive and the only down side is that now I need to work off an ice cream induced coma. Oof.“

“Wow, really enjoyed this ice cream shop! And apparently so does everyone else since they had a line out the door both times we went (in the evening). So many tasty flavors to pick from including a few dairy free options and numerous gluten free choices. The ooey gooey cake and the salted peanut butter with chocolate were probably our favorites. The mint chocolate chip was great too!“

“The gelato here is good. However, the place was packed and ordering chaotic. It was like the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in there. It took forever to get served. That being said the folks behind the counter were doing a magnificent job serving the mob. They just need to come up with an orderly way to move the crowd.“

“If you are a fan of Ice cream, this is a great place to go. With dozens of ice cream flavor, package candies such as chocolate covered cherries, and half a dozen Sundays this is a great place to go.
The restaurant has a lovely antique vibe with little stereos at each table and a glass memorabilia case filled with the heritage of Margie’s Candies.
The service is great, you get your food within minutes of ordering. All the waiters are very nice and can help you pick your order. You’re seated quite fast and can easily have a to go order if you would like.
I would say Sundays are their specialty. The Sunday comes with hot fudge, wafers, and three scoops of your choice of ice cream. The portions can be shared or finished on your own. If you don’t want all that or for some reason that doesn’t sound appealing you could also get a shake. The shakes are very good, they aren’t too thick and aren’t watery. The flavor is very good and can easily substitute for a meal.
Margie’s is a great place to go whether you want a Sunday or if you looking for a fancy treat. Margie’s if a wonderful affordable way spend your afternoon.“

The staff was friendly and attentive, though the service was a bit slow during peak times, which is understandable given how popular the place is. “Came in with a friend who had never had boba before. The owner(?) recommended her a flavor and offered to make her a different kind if she didn't like it. She had brown sugar, I had taro, and my wife had a caramel latte boba. All were delicious! We also got the mini pancake bites which were fantastic. The owner(?) was super nice and gave us free water as well. If it wasn't a 40 minute drive for us we would be here all the time!“
