“The food is 10/10. Always flavorful and well prepared. Their lunch special is really a deal. I enjoy my meal every time!It has a quiet atmosphere, which I like. The service isn't always prompt or direct - I certainly don't mind, but I can see how others might not.“
“Q Sushi absolutely lives up to the reviews. The atmosphere is cute, not stuffy or pretentious, and very welcoming. The service was phenomenal. Really personable, friendly staff. We did the omakase menu and everything was fantastic and we were SO full by the end. 5 stars all around.“
“Sayuri sushi is the best restaurant sushi spot around!! The friendliness of the folks who work there is unmatched. The food is amazing (highly recommend the sweet potato maki, Philly roll, veggie egg roll) and the prices are so good. We go there at least once a week. But most importantly, I can’t stress enough how kind the people who work there are!“
“We discovered this authentic Japanese style Korean BBQ restaurant over 30 years ago. The husband wife team make sure you enjoy your food. The chef is a highly trained Japanese chef and his skills are reflected in the exceptional quality meat choices, appetizers and soups. You could just order appetizers and be delighted but the meats are the highlight for their delicious marinades and seasonings. Real charcoal made of specialty hardwoods give the meats that unique smoky flavor. The prices will reflect the careful attention to quality and is well worth it in my opinion of 30 years of enjoying my favorite BBQ place. This is a one of a kind experience. The reason there are so many baseball photos and memorabilia in the restaurant is because this restaurant has been a favorite of every Japanese baseball player in Chicago and around the country and the owners are huge fans of baseball. This restaurant is famous in Japan when visiting Chicago.Parking: Easy street parkingKid-friendliness: Family friendly restaurant. I've been bringing my kids since they were babies“
“Awesome place! One of the best sushi restaurant in northshore. I’m so happy I found this place. Food - especially sushi and sashimi are fresh and delicious.Staffs are friendly and nice, too. Highly recommended!!분위기도 좋고 음식도 맛있습니다.“
“In my view, Ora is far and away the best sushi spot in Chicago, and among the best restaurants period. The quality of the fish and the attention to detail in preparation are outstanding. On top of that, they've got great service, reasonable prices, and it's BYOB. If you haven't tried it, give it a shot, you won't be disappointed!“
“This was my first time here and the food was overall good I think the all you can eat is definitely worth it. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. It was very loud the day I went the were tables put together for a big party that had kids at it and it was really annoying and not very enjoyable to be there with all the noise. Food: chicken karaage was my least favorite I wasn't a fan of the batter and the texture/flavor was not what I expected. I really enjoyed my sushi rolls and the ramen was good for the most part it was basic and I added some additives (fish cakes (upcharge to add), corn and bean sprouts)“
“I always recommend it for the variety, assortment and prices. The best offers. In food without competition.Vegetarian options: For every taste.Dietary restrictions: Choice. There's a lot.Parking: Spacious and comfortable...Kid-friendliness: YeahWheelchair accessibility: Very good“
“04/02/24 - What an awesome add to the neighborhood. Teriyaki Madness is in the mall next to The Smash burger on Foster Ave. It's less than 1/2 mile from my house. I actually sampled their chicken teriyaki @ a Yelp event up in Lake Bluff @ Bernie's Book Bank. Teriyaki Madness has a store up in Gurnee, IL The teriyaki comes in 3 different sizes, Junior, regular or large. I ordered the regular sized chicken teriyaki bowl & it was more than enough for me as I had a little bit of left overs to take home. They have different options like regular or spicy chicken, chicken breast teriyaki, steak teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, tofu teriyaki & chicken katsu. Wry good seasoning w Great options. They also have appetizers like edamame, egg rolls, chicken potstickers & crab Rangoon. I was very pleasantly surprised w/the grilled chicken teriyaki served over brown rice w/veggies like cabbage & broccoli. I really enjoyed my meal & scarfed it down. I will definitely be back to try some of their other items like the steak teriyaki or chicken katsu.“
“Don't be fooled by the appearance! Behind the modest dining area with 3 tables and a narrow counter is hiding an amazing Japanese chef who is not only brilliant in delivering the highest quality of sushi and sashimi, cooking delightful hot dishes but also pays close attention to the presentation of his creations. My sashimi selection was delightful and miso soup very tasty. The nice nod to the classic Japanese cuisine was a delicious assortment of Japanese pickles. My husband loved the incredible dressing of the house salad, the right consistency of the egg rolls, and the freshness of the shrimp tempura roll. He was particularly fond of the rich flavor of his gyoza. Kelly made us feel very welcome at her restaurant. We cannot wait to be back at this hidden gem! Bravo, Akira-San! Save our table“
“What a great place! I can recommend it for celebrations, date or just sit by the bar and enjoy great food and drinks. We’ve been in this place many times and never disappointed. Great selection of delicious drinks, I always get their Old Fashioned.Food:You can tell everything is fresh and high quality, I always like to get oysters because they have delicious ones. You must try oyster shot it’s worth every single penny. Besides that great appetizers like fried Gyoza or spicy edamame. You won’t be regretting taking their sushi rolls either.Highly recommend!Parking: You can go to underground parking lot that is free of charge and you can access that parking from Summit ave“
“Chef Roberto and team are always super welcoming - whipping up amazing margaritas (I’m usually a sake guy, but I’ve gotten margs to go before, don’t judge me), and a delicious selection of sushi, sashimi, hand rolls and more. Our kids love it too - very family friendly (but even better for a date night away).“
“It was my first time here and wow, it was so good! I need to try the other dishes, but the Beef Yakiniku Donburi was so delicious!!! The dish has butter corn and beef in a garlic bbq sauce. I also ordered the Plain Bob Ramen with Torino broth, which taste the same from Torino Restaurant. The place is small but there's one large table. It's a great place for take out as their containers are perfect. Can't wait to try this place again!“
“A delicious and affordable Japanese restaurant. Sushi and maki rolls are very fresh. They have very attentive and helpful staff. We have eaten in the restaurant and gotten take-out. Quality of food has always been excellent. This is my favorite place for sushi in EvanstonParking: Paid street parking on Main Street or Chicago. You can find free street parking on side streets if you are willing to walk“
“Don't let the mediocre presentation fool you because despite the way they slice and roll, sashimi dinner and wasabi roll surprised us with it's freshness. Recommend sticking with the special rolls because wasabi roll was just way better than the rainbow or chicago roll. Seared tuna was ok and it looked much better than it tasted. Mixed flavors with sesame oil never gave us the wow sensation.Service was awesome.Byob charge is 3 per person. They have a strict way of eating the special rolls without soy sauce or ginger.“
“I can't believe I never tried Torino until now! We live walking distance and I placed an order for pickup. Wow, the freshness and quality of the food was fantastic. Loved my tuna avocado roll! The space is warm and inviting and it looks like a nice bar, too. Will definitely be back to dine in!“
“This may make sense to those who are of my generation and perhaps even older; have you ever experienced wanting a good old fashioned simple and greasy hamburger or cheeseburger but have found it difficult to find one? Too many places you go, they have created 'gourmet' burgers with 'inspiration' from various places. While these are good/decent, you just want your good, old, original, simple hamburger! That out of the way, imagine the same for Japanese food.I'm not a Japanese cuisine specialist by any means however I do know some flavors since I grew up in Tokyo. I so miss the tori no karaage (chicken karaage) but everywhere I have been to (not too many to be fair), it's way too Americanized which is ok but come on, someone's got to have authentic or close to authentic chicken karaage.I honestly gave up on Japanese food (Japanese curry rice, ramen, chicken karaage and takoyaki) in the US till I came across Rakkan Ramen. The founder, Ryohei Ito brought the idea of Rakkan Ramen with one goal in mind; bring authentic Japanese food to the world. Is the chicken karaage exactly how I remember having it in Tokyo growing up or on my various trips back there? I'd say 98% yes. The 2% is probably the type of chicken available here, the oils, water, etc. No nonsense specially made aolis drizzled on top and topped with tiny things to make it pretty; Rakkan Ramen's chicken karaage is as close as it gets to what you get in Japan. So let's get on with it. It was about 2 or 3 months ago, a friend and I visited Rakkan Ramen based on reviews and I figured let's check it out.You enter and you are transported to Japan with the word, Irrashaimase coming out of the staff's mouth within the first 2 seconds that you enter the door. OMG. I AM LOVING IT SO FAR.We are seated way back in the corner (which I don't mind. I'm an introvert anyway). We ordered the takoyaki which was outstanding. We also ordered a side of the chicken karaage (which I have already described above). We each ordered a ramen. I ordered the Amber. The broth was a BOMB. While vegan, the flavor profile it had was so Japanese and outstanding. The seasoned egg was PERFECTLY done. The bamboo shoots, hmmmm, that crunch in your mouth and lastly the chachu (grilled pork). The chachu I will say I've had better at other spots in the US. The actual noodles too I think there are spots that have better ones. Overall, this ramen HIT THE SPOT and I felt like I found a JACKPOT.Fast forward a while later, I went in solo for a lunch special on a Friday afternoon and ordered the Pearl ramen AND of course, my chicken karaage. The karaage again was exactly how it was the first time I had it. The ramen too was so amazing. Salty (not too salty but just right) and truly umami. One additional thing I wish Rakkan would do is to start adding wakame. This is the wet/soft seaweed that is a common ingredient across Japan in ramen, udon and miso soups. I have yet to come across a Japanese restaurant in the US that serves wakame (again, I have probably tried at most 50 Japanese restaurants in the US and I know there are thousands)I am so glad to have found this place. Now that I'm back, I plan on having my ramen fix every other week for a Friday lunch.“
“Ordered takeout from Nobori for an outing. Nothing fancy, just California Rolls, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura rolls. All were excellent. Very tasty and fresh. I ordered during a busy dinner time and they still were ready very quick. I will be back to try the harder to make items.... Five stars.“
“The food delicious , sushi was very tasty . The desserts were pretty good . My family and I enjoyed the atmosphere here as well as the delicious sushi rolls . We got spicy salmon, spider roll ,caterpillar ,kamikaze ,chili mango . All very delicious .“
“Went here with my boyfriend for a quick bite to eat for a light lunch on a Saturday! Their menu is small but still has options, I was able to get their bento box with California and Spicy tuna sushi rolls and udon soup and let me tell you it was perfect meal! My boyfriend got there chicken teriyaki bento box and with miso soup and it smelled and tasted amazing! Will be back for sure! Make sure you go and check this couples cute sushi restaurant!“
“I recently dined at this delightful Japanese/Thai fusion restaurant, and it was a flavor-packed experience. The Spicy Creamy Tom Yum Noodle broth was rich, tangy, and had just the right amount of heat. The egg noodles were perfectly cooked, and the fragrant aromatics—garlic, chilies, and kaffir lime leaves—elevated the dish. And fav dish was Yakiniku don. The savory-sweet yakiniku sauce tied everything together. It was comfort food at its finest. The Beef Tongue was our adventurous choice. Thinly sliced and grilled, it had a unique texture—tender but slightly chewy. The marinade was flavorful, and the hotstone grill made it even more enjoyable (10/10 for this dish!!)“
“I came here for a pick up order. Had the steak bowl and chicken bowl. The bowls were very tasty. I particular the steak which I really enjoyed. The steak had a grilled taste and was marinated perfectly. The bowls came with a cup of miso soup which was not watered down like many other places. I initially felt bad ordered 10 minutes before closing but the young lady working behind the register and owner were very nice and welcoming. The interior of the restaurant had a Chipolti fell to it but much brighter and less sterile. For a quick lunch or dinner, this is a great spot centrally located in Wilmette downtown. I will definitely be coming back.“
“Food was delicious and they had so many choices. Our server was nice. Some of our food didn't even come out until the rest of us were almost done but we went during lunch so maybe they didn't have the staff that day. Would live to go again soon.“
“Easily the best tasting ramen in Northside Chicago. I tried many places and this is my favorite. I come at least once a week for their outstanding spicy tonkatsu ramen. Comfort food at its best. Owners are very nice and accommodating people! Highly recommend!!!“
“Jin is my absolute FAVORITE place to grab lunch. It is truly a hidden gem. The crab ragoon is the best I have ever had. Its my favorite thing!!! Although, everything I have tried is amazing. The serving sizes are so generous and the food is so fresh and clean, not greasy. Its the BEST! You have to give it a try!“
“I stumbled into this gem of a restaurant by accident and has been a patron 1-2 times a month. I have brought friends and visitors and they all loved the food, service, and ambiance. Everything that I have tried is delicious and you will not regret dining in this restaurant.“
“Over the years, Indie Cafe has been amazingly kind and thoughtful in their service, and their food preparations and presentations always go above and beyond all of my expectations. From quadruple-checking whether or not a menu item is gluten-free, to recommending the best wine/sake pairings for an entrée, their staff have always ensured that I've left their restaurant knowing that I was appreciated as a customer. And welcomed as a friend. Maya is hands-down one of the most excellent servers I've had the pleasure of dining with. She always goes above and beyond with her level of professionalism and attention, and her personality is lovely as well! Given the quality of their sashimi, the creativity behind their menu, and the warmth in their hearts? I look forward to dining with them for many years to come.“
“I am SO delighted that this restaurant is in the neighborhood! The quality of sashimi is exceptionally high, and each dish is created and plated with intricate care. Definitely looking forward to trying more of their items. And their homemade kimchi is some of the best I've ever had; a nuanced balance of deep and bright heat, aged to perfection.“
“This is a small locally owned Japanese restaurant. The food is always great and well-prepared. I have tried many things on the menu and it is always delicious. The bubble tea is also especially good. The employees are always very courteous and care about maintaining a positive atmosphere. The sushi and sashimi dishes are also very reasonably priced and high quality. Highly recommend this place!“
“I am not local, this is a regular go-to place for a friend, so when I visit with her, she wants to bring me. I had a Chinese Eggplant with chicken dish, flavorful and spicy. Also had some nigiri sushi, all very good. The Black Tobiko was plentiful and fresh. The Tamago and Inari, which are types of sushi that are deceptively simple seeming but really show a chef's knowledge and artistry, were excellent. I'm sure I will go again.“
“Stopped in here due to the many positive reviews and it didn't disappoint! The place looks so much bigger inside than it seems from the exterior as it's located in a mini strip mall. Our server was quick and attentive. The food was fresh. It was our first time trying a hand roll and I was impressed! Will definitely come back here in the future.“
“Many years ago we visited Koyasan in Japan and it was a village that was the center of Shingon Buddhism with 117 temples scattered around a cedar forest. We stayed overnight in one of the monasteries and dined on shojin ryori meals, made without meat, fish or animal products (and without onions or garlic). What does this have to do with Koya, the Japanese restaurant in Highland Park? Nothing, I'm afraid--the restaurant's name simply evokes memories of a very meaningful travel experience and I found myself reminiscing. This visit my Saba sashimi was cut a little thicker and did not seem to have the usual marinade. The Rainbow roll was ok but bland. The wait staff was a little argumentative when my companion checked if he was given the Dynamite roll. It was spicy but kind of meagre. We usually love dining here although this visit did not seem up to the usual standard. They do provide free miso soup if you want and complimentary mochi ice cream and Couque D'asse cookies. Though this visit was not our usual, we do love the food generally and will be back.“
“We absolutely the food, service, and vibe at Jimoto and have been here a number of times. Last night we went with friends (& fellow sushi-lovers) who experienced Jimoto for the first time. They also loved it and swore to return soon. We went for the "Happy Hour" and were happy we did. We ate our weight in sushi rolls and cucumber salad. It was a very nice, delicious, and moderately-priced dinner, even with six glasses of wine and a beer. We will be back soon; Happy Hour or not.“
