“Its been decades since I had a breaded steak sandwich. To give you perspective, last time I had a breaded steak sandwich was in early 1990s when there was a Ricobenes on Lake Street in The Loop, at street level, downstairs from a Nevada Bob’s. If you know about this, then you are Gen X!!

This place was recommended by a close friend and it was fantastic!!! It’s a solid 4.6⭐️s!!

From what I recall, this breaded steak sandwich is just about as tasty as I have had since Ricobenes. Tony’s is excellent and messy as I have expected. Its very filling and well worth the price.

Also tried their italian beef, which was very good indeed. Balanced spices and saltiness was all there!!! But I do have my favorites that I lean on when I really need a fixin!!! But this was very good nonetheless.

This neighborhood joint is small and has limited seating, but the friendly staff made the dine-in meal a pleasant experience, albeit a bit confined. Most patrons order take-away. Will try to make it out again next time I am in the Midway area.“

“We come to this Portillo’s very couple months and drive over a hour just to eat here after loving it when we moved up to the chicago area and were so excited to see one come to Springfield IL after we moved back home. it’s always such a great experience for the kids but today we were very disappointed the food was not very good at all and the place was so dirty, nothing was filled, straws or ketchup and every table in the place was dirty, there were a lot of workers but no one cleaning up. I had to ask a worker for something to clean one of the tables with just so we had a clean table to eat at. what looked to be a manager was at a table on the phone.“

The chicken salad was good, but the dressing choices were limited and rather bland. My wife had chicken strips.
Parking was limited, which pushes patrons to use the very busy drive through.“

“The food is pricey. Any meal will cost you almost $20. It used to make a difference what type of food you got per the price. Not anymore a steak burger is about the same price as a regular burger. I believe people raise prices more bc of the excuse product cost more. However the staff is very friendly and they actually listen to how you ordered your food.

“We ordered the classic wings. It comes with fries and a slice of bread. The chicken wings were crispy and very good. We had lemon pepper sprinkled on it. We got the honey bbq and crispy’s homemade sauce. Both were good. We would go back there. You can eat inside but we saw mostly carry outs. They cook your order fresh, so it takes about 15 minutes, but you can call your order in for pickup. I looked up best wings near me and this place had 4 stars! I totally agree. “The store looked a little run-down but you know when you go to the Midwest especially Chicago St Louis and some other spots you got to stop into a White Castle cuz them burgers only come in one size! “I really like this place and wish there were more locations to visit!! Yesterday I got the Nashville Hot Burrito (my favorite) and the Chiwawa (huge rice balls with your choice of protein and all the fillings like cheese, onion/vegetables, sauces etc....an explosion of your favorite flavors). My friends got the three taco dinners. I'll be munching on my leftovers today and will be back at Bubbakoos as soon as I am in the Crestwood area again. Give them a try...you won't be disappointed!“
