“Best Dumplings and Boba in the whole world“

“Westbound, hungry, and driving through an unusually slow traffic, it was only a matter of time before my itching fingers and fiendishly famished stomach determined the next course of action. Swerved off the next exit, pulled up a list of nearby restaurants, rerouted, and floored it. Fudge it. Hungry. Don’t care. Hungry. Just drive like another M@$$hole and get this nonsense over with.

U Dumpling House had immediately caught my attention. I couldn’t recall where I had read about it but it was positive. Now that it’s just a few minutes away from where I was, why the heck not? Dimsum and soup dumplings? Can’t go wrong right? Then again, I don’t ever remember anyone this hungry complain about anything in the moment until *way* after the meal…

So I rapidly ordered away like it was my last meal before I met my maker. Stuck to the usual choices to see their take on classic dim sum dishes. Best part? Food didn’t take long at all to trickle in straight from the kitchen (no dim sum cart here, as expected).

While the preparation was slightly different from what I’ve been accustomed to for the last few decades, I found their style both pleasant and tasty. At least, most of it was…and I would have given them 5 stars easily if it wasn’t for a few missteps that I can’t let slide.

Dry Sautéed String Beans. As good as your version is…the word “dry” means a particular technique that does not involve blanching the beans. I expected something but received something else. That one step has a different texture and matters to those who know this dish well. Moreover, I expected the soup dumplings, which you are famous for, to stand out. I can’t say it did and that’s me being nice.

Anyways, I definitely recommend anyone in the immediate area craving Chinese food or dim sum to at least try them out once. You may end up being one of those several regulars there that day that obviously frequent this place.“

“I discovered this restaurant while bicycling to Lexington on the Minuteman Trail. I love the traditional dining room with table cloths and Chinese decorations. The food is excellent and the staff is friendly and attentive. It has become one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Boston.“

“The feeling that filled my heart in this moment was one finding a long lost love. One that you had once, one that eventually drifted apart due to whatever circumstances, and then finding each other again in the most unexpected moment and regaining that wonderful traction of a friendship all over again. Yes, I’m talking about food.

It was once a tale of two spots. One in Watertown and one right here. As I resided in closer to the Watertown location since the move here, I frequented it and found solace in their dishes - absolute comfort food that was done very well. However, like all businesses, things change and eventually the business was sold. I knew there was a transition period and the owner and chefs stuck around to “train” the new owners. I hoped that the “good” would remain and that the new owners would continue the tradition of wonderfully curated dishes and keep the regulars coming back. Did it happen? No. I gave them about a month of repeated visits to gauge their level of culinary competence but it never came through.

Long story short. I stopped going and that feeling of lost love began to fester.

I didn’t think much of it. I thought he had sold this place too since I’ve often overheard him saying how hard it was to run this business to his associates as he tried to satisfy every customer walking in the door or ringing the phone off the hook. So when I finally found a chance to be on this side of town, I decided to stop by and give it a shot. Maybe, maybe I thought, the new owners here would do a much better take on what they had taken over.

What I didn’t expect after placing an order was to see the owner walking out from the kitchen with dishes in hand to serve another table. Eyes wide open, I couldn’t help but say, “HEY! Good to see you again.” He in return showed the same look and smiled greeting me back with fondness and delight.

That’s when I spoke to the lady and asked more about the whole situation, wherein she explained how they sold the other place but kept this one. Regulars of the other spot now take the 15-20 minute drive just to come up here instead for a meal. I smiled. It made sense. They must have felt robbed when they went back after the place was sold. Food wasn’t even remotely the same. Don’t even talk about service either.

Anyways, long story short, when the food came out. I felt this completeness return back to my soul. Here, once again, I felt home away from home. The food did me justice. The flavors impeccable. The culinary finesse was displayed thoroughly with each bite. So it is, once again, I found my long lost love again in Boston and can’t wait to be here every single Sunday for a wonderful special meal that teleports me back to what “Home Tastes” like.“

“Food is good, but it is often too salty for my tastes. We enjoy the dim sum dishes, but it can be hit or miss as far as liking something enough to order it again. I guess, like any Chinese restaurant that I have been to in the area, there are some dishes they do well and appeal to my taste and other dishes that do not.“

-Chengdu dry chicken with red chilies $21.95 delicious flavor with mild mala numbing spices, but breaded chicken pieces seem overly deep fried.
-Stir fried chicken with black bean sauce, green bell pepper and onion $18.95 even onions had full flavor and tasty. Chicken was little salty though.
-Beef Chow Fan $18.95 best smokey flavor I've tasted in years
-hot and sour soup $4.95 with all the right ingredients it was still flavorless but salty.
Place was clean with decent table settings, fast service. Decent size parking available.“

“We have been eating here for Years. The food is consistent. The owners and cooks are the same.

Mandarin Cafe is a hidden gem of a restaurant. The quality of food is great and the portion sizes are generous and the ingredients are top-notch.

Lately we have been ordering the Veggie Dumplings and the Kung Pao Tofu. The dishes are an absolute treat.

The restaurant itself is just a small kitchen with a few tables and chairs - you do get to see the chefs hard at work behind the counter.

“I saw Jayson Tatum here yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like five orders of crab rangoons in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bags and keyed in quantity x5, he stopped her and told her to enter each line individually “to prevent any math tricks,” and then turned around and winked at me. If he was making a joke, I guess I didn't get it. After she keyed in each individual order of rangoons and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.“

“Simply the best Chinese restaurant in Framingham. They don't offer sit-down tables as it's mostly takeout. It's a family-owned establishment with phenomenal food that consistently delivers the same delicious flavor. I've been a customer for over 15 years. “We went there Saturday afternoon. I ordered my usual, Chicken Subgum Chow Mein and boneless spareribs. The waitress was very nice but limited in the English language. Therein was part of the problem. I did not get what I would consider my usual. It looked like Chop Suey . Not what I am used to. I sent it back and received pretty much the same thing on the second try. The boneless spare ribs were very fatty and not like the ribs I received on prior visits. Also the Duck Sauce seemed to be "watered down" with very little taste. All in all it wasn't a pleasant experience this time. Hopefully it will be better next time.“

“Chicken lo mein is mid, but the scallion pancakes are fresh and crispy, and Rick serves a stiff SB, but
I love this place for more than its good and reasonably priced fare. There’s a certain curb appeal that comes from having no windows that more modern establishments are still struggling to grasp. Rick is the most gracious host/server/bartender, and I welcome any additional business in his direction even if it’s just to hear his genuine, “You’re welcome,” each and every time you politely thank him for something. “Once in a while I have a craving from my childhood and thats' bitter melon and because no one else in my family will eat this, I go to Dumpling House. I have it as a stir fried dish with a protein. It is delicious, slightly different to how I had it growing up (we had it with black bean sauce). But this is just as delicious, not as bitter (slightly sweet) and not garlicky at all. It certainly satisfies my craving. Only negative is that it doesn't come with rice and one has to order that separately. Service is efficient, friendly and timely. I'll continue to come back again!“

“We love going in to visit with , Ming , the bartender on Tuesday nights . Because of his exceptional service we have gone a few other nights . All the bartenders are super friendly and fun ! Our favorite dishes , thus far , have been the Singapore rice noodles and the garlic veggie dish . We heard the house rice is great . The bar is full of friendly locals looking to talk and have a good time . We can’t say enough about this place .“

Their fried chicken, Char Sui pork, fried pork dumplings, scallion pancake, and fried rice are served hot and are very tasty...fresh ingredients, well prepared. The beef skewers were very tasty. The exterior of their restaurant is painted a cheerful Rose Madder pink. They have wooden Chop sticks and sides of " plum sauce " or, as its also known as , " Duck sauce." I hope to return there soon. This is a popular Waltham Spot. I'm pretty sure ine can order online as well and through Uber, Grub Hub, and Door Dash.“
