“Showed up just before nine on our way through town. The place is quiet and unassuming, the facade is definitely worn, but the food is exceptional. It came out fast, piping hot and was delicious without exception. “Been scouting this place for about 3 weeks for a birthday dinner. I called over a week in advance for a party of 7 - 13 people. They were able too accommodate and the food was GOOOOOD! That hotpot was smokin and I thought I choose a milder one but it was excellent in taste for me. “Absolutely delicious food! I first came here six years ago for my husband’s birthday after hearing about the restaurant from a foodie. It’s an unpretentious spot with incredibly good food. We ordered 10+ different dishes that first time and loved everything, especially the dan dan noodles and the pork bun. “We've been eating here for over 20 years and it has always been good. It is recently under new management and the way some items are prepared has changed, but still very tasty -- just a new twist on an old favorite. The one thing the new management needs is someone who knows their way around a bar. The people there this week had a very limited range of knowledge about drinks (gin on the rocks got a blank look), but once you explained they happily made a very acceptable drink.“

Let me tell you. First thing first. Customer service was top notch. The lady looked out by taking my order even though they are closed on Sunday. Except for Catering orders.

I was craving a steak and cheese and my husband reminded me of Jerry Chans, which save us a drive because usually we would go Uptown NW DC to order our steak and cheese subs. We drive pass Jerry Chans almost everyday, but what throws us off is the fact that there is always vagrants around that area.... Anyway we called in our order and when we arrived I introduced myself to a nice lady that works there name Jane. Very pleasant lady. “I was browsing through Chinese places and I came across Lucky Star. I must say, that this place exceeded my expectations. In the past, Ive tried other Chinese places and the concerns I've had were the food isn't hot its always warm or cold and that the taste of the food decreased. So I gave lucky star a try and I got the Steak & Cheese sub with an order of fries. Upon receiving my food, the lady who is always at the counter is so kind and she greets you with a friendly attitude and she even recognizes returning customers which is also a plus. Also, the food is. fresh and hot when you receive it and the food even tastes delicious!. So, if you're looking for a chinese place to go with great food, I recommend Lucky Star.“

“I was genuinely impressed when I attended a yelp event there recently. I thought the decor fit the space perfectly. There are a lot of seats and they did a great job not having it feel crammed. Everything was very on theme from the lighting to the walls you really felt transported.

The food was fantastic across the board. One of my absolute favorites was the cheesesteak eggrolls. Cheesesteaks are one of my favorite sandwiches, and this was such a fun twist on it. They were crispy, flavorful, and just really well done.

Their donuts were another highlight. They were incredibly fresh and light, which made them dangerously easy to keep eating. Definitely the perfect thing to overindulge in.

I also have to mention the broccoli. I know that sounds random, but the way they cook it is fantastic. It still had a great crunch while being packed with flavor, which is not always easy to pull off. We tried a shrimp and broccoli dish, and honestly the broccoli alone made it one of my favorite bites of the night.

We sampled quite a few dishes during the event including the crab rangoons, Singapore noodles, fried rice, and two different types of chicken wings. I tried the wings with the wok sauce and they immediately reminded me of Korean fried chicken. They had that perfect crisp with a slightly sweet glaze that worked really well.

Even though we were there during a special event, the service was still excellent. Everything came out smoothly and the team was very attentive. Toward the end of the evening the owners came out and personally thanked everyone for visiting, which was a really nice touch.

I had actually seen SoulWok on TikTok before and had been wanting to try it, so I was excited to finally make it in. After this experience, I will definitely be back.“

Food was cooked to perfection (meat was tender, veggies were both soft & crispy), but lacks some of the typical Chinese veggies like water chestnuts and baby corn. “On my way into DC, I got takeout from Panda Express. On the way back home, I stopped at Wok-A-Holic in Union Station. The latter was decidedly much better—Wok-A-Holic’s orange chicken and broccoli chicken were far superior to Panda’s serviceable but bland orange chicken and broccoli beef. However, I do have some concerns about the location. It seems to be a bit inconsistent. Some days it's great, but other times I find myself hesitating to go there. I think it's something worth considering.“

“My go to chinese carryout place. Best place for chicken wings or other chicken pieces to eat as well and the fried rice. I tried fried rice from dozens of other carryouts and nothing comes close to their rice. Steak and cheese is the best and others dishes are great as well. Only problem is it's cash only other then that food is great.Btw ask for the hot sauce if you get fried chicken. The sauce is strong but goes well with the chicken!“

The pork chop meal is really good, especially when Ms. Karimi submits my special request!! The orzo rice is extremely soft, very good, and flavorful. The roasted potatoes are dangerously good and seasoned well. On Gyro Wednesday the gyros are $6.00. The tzaiki sauce is excellent to the taste, and pairs very well on the Greek salad, pork chops, and best with the roasted garlic potatoes!!!

Parking: Pay extremely close to where you park, and when you park due to the varied parking restrictions in the city.“

“Memory lane. My old friend used to get food from here and share it with me. I didn't know that and didn't understand why she braved through the hood for this place until I left the DMV area. It's worth it. This was the first place that I was introduced to Chinese carryout food and mumbo sauce. Check this out: Mumbo sauce is a DIP for fried chicken wings and not a wet rub. The correct and best way is to dip your fried chicken wings in the mumbo sauce (like you dip your wings in ranch dressing). If you want to smother your wings in mumbo sauce, then that is your personal preference, but anyone or any place serving the wings to you already smothered in mumbo sauce is wrong. Mumbo sauce is pink and is supposed to come in a condiment cup (just like ranch dressing). Another thing: The wings here taste good on their own and better with mumbo sauce. Best wings in the DMV. Best mumbo sauce in the DMV. Best wings & mumbo sauce pairing in the DMV. I said it. I left the DMV years ago and there is no American Chinese carryout that compares to this place in my travels. Trust me, only NYC Chinese carryouts can dare compete. I only took off a star because of my ordering experience years ago. I brought my brother here to order carryout because I am not brave enough to go to the hood by myself, and the lady who took my order was rude, not nice, unfriendly, unwelcoming, the worst. It's as if I wasn't a human being. If I wasn't determined to have my brother taste the food (he agreed that it tasted really good), then I would have turned around and said forget it.“
