“A friend recently turned me on to a great Chinese place near me here. He treated me to lunch there. At first, I just assumed they were just another "run of the mill" Chinese place. Boy, was I wrong. I ordered a small bowl of veggie soup. I so enjoyed drinking the tea that was there at our table. We had a wonderful conversation, punctuated with some humor and story telling. I came to realize that the soup was heavenly. The soup had a very light, veggie broth and some assorted veg with some perfect, soft tofu. And the tea. I so enjoyed the black tea that the wonderful purveyors brought us. And yes, they have tables outside for paranoid types, such as myself. Now I too, am a fan of this wonderful eatery. I will be back. Maybe I will be back sooner rather than later. Maybe I will go there today or tomorrow. I will order the veggie soup and some hot tea to wash the soup down. I will eat outside. The owners are super nice people. This place is popular for good reason. The food is great. The people are wonderful. The restaurant is impeccably clean. Five stars for this excellent restaurant. I will give them their well-deserved, 5 star review on social media now.“
“Just tried this out for the first time and will definitely be going back! We got the general tso's chicken and the beef lo mein with crab rangoon, egg rolls, and fried rice. The fried rice and crab rangoon were pretty standard, the lo mein and chicken had great flavor and texture. The owner was very sweet and welcoming and was happy to give us extra sauce for free. Highly recommend!!“
“Easily the best in Grand Rapids. Hands down. Family owned, and you can tell. Been eating here for 20 years and nothing else compares.Orange ChickenEmpress ChickenEgg RollsCrab cheeseHaven’t deviated from those because I’ve never been disappointed.Thank you Three Happiness!Germain Family“
“I've been coming here since they first opened about 17 years ago. They are my favorite restaurant on Plainfield and some of the best American-Chinese food in all of Grand Rapids. Super kind staff (family run) and amazing prices, along with incredibly flavorful food with great portion sizes. I've never had a bad meal there!“
“Amazing food, every time. I ordered three entrées, three appetizers and one dessert last night. Every item was delicious. This is the safest bet for a vegetarian or vegan. They are very conscious about dietary restrictions. Almost every other Thai restaurant in the metro area will tell you different things every time you ask for a dish with no fish, shrimp or oyster sauce. One time I would be told that it was free of those ingredients and the next time another employee would tell me that it wasn’t vegetarian. Or if you have other places make something that they can assure is vegetarian or vegan, it has a bland flavor. Highly recommend this restaurant!Dietary restrictions: The best Asian vegan and vegetarian menu in west MI.“
“Knew this place opened but I wanted to let them get some time in before I tried them out. Did not disappoint. Don’t be intimidated to try Sichuan style Chinese food. The mala spice and Sichuan peppers are numbingly spicy and good. Description in the pictures.“
“4.7/5 StarsThe service was absolutely excellent! Very fast and helpful. The environment and atmosphere were also excellent. Very clean. The food was amazing and came out fresh and quick also. The only reason it's not a 5 star is that a few of the people I had dine in with didn't not enjoy the food they had ordered. On a side note, this fried rice is the best around, and the portion sizes are HUGE!“
“I wanted sushi and discovered a sushi spot in Grand Rapids. I decided to order a special roll, regular roll, soup, and appetizer. This was my first time using Uber Eats, and when the food arrived, it was still hot and the packaging was excellent. They provided plenty of utensils, sauce, and napkins. The volcano roll and Godzilla roll were both incredible. My husband enjoyed the gyoza and salmon roll, but did not like the miso. (I love them btw) Overall, it was a perfect experience and definitely worth the price. We highly recommend this place.“
“We just discovered this gem of a Chinese restaurant after being disappointed with our regular place. It is take out only and the prices are surprisingly low. The egg rolls are the best we've ever had! The portions are large. My chicken and vegetables was a combo platter with fried rice and an egg roll. The vegetables were plentiful and fresh. The mei fun is something we've never heard of and the thin noodles were delicious and loaded with shrimp and beef. Lunch specials are 5.95 and come with fried rice, crab Rangoon and a beverage. This is our new go to Chinese take our place!!“
“This restaurant is super cozy, and the staff was friendly. Service and food were quick. I got the cashew chicken, Crab Rangoon, and the pot of tea. We were given a pot of rice to share. The tea was really good. The crab Rangoon was a little bland but it was piping hot and crispy. The dinner portions are generously sized. The cashew chicken was delicious and the chicken very tender. Will definitely be back again!“
“I love this Restaurant! The Food is delicious, this is the best place to go in Grand Rapids, MI! I have been to many other places for Chinese and I have been disappointed several times! At Hong Kong Express the food is made to order and it’s always fresh! I am a new customer and it is so very good! The prices are amazing! You gotta stop by this restaurant and get the yummy egg rolls! Excellent food and service!“
“I have ordered here a few times, 3 or 4 carry out orders and every time the food has been really good and fairly proportioned every. single. time.Today I went for a sit-down diner and the food continued to hold up with really good service. This is truly my guilty pleasure food-place when I have the money“
“I am always in the mood for Chinese takeout. Red Bowl is pretty good. Have ordered takeout from here 3 or so times within the past year. Here are my takeaways: orange chicken is solid - good meat to breading ratio and has a good flavor with a bit of spice. Sesame chicken has great flavor, not too sweet. Fried rice isn't my favorite - I like the larger chunks of onion but there is a bit of old pan flavor to the rice, if that makes sense... I typically opt for white rice but the fried isn't the worst I've had. Rangoon is above average comparatively for GR - good amount of crab cheese filling and the flavor is great. Overall, 4 stars. If the fried rice was better I would have given 5. It's your standard Chinese takeout joint with competitive pricing (lunch special under $10.50).“
“It's been two years since I moved to Austin, TX, and I still find it incredibly difficult to find pho that matches the quality of this place. Just last week, I visited Grand Rapids, MI, and within two hours of landing, I begged my friend to take me to this spot for lunch. The staff is always friendly (they're always open to moving your seat if you ask!), and the pho is reasonably priced (it's ALWAYS half off!). My favorite item from their menu is their Vietnamese coffee. I've tried countless others in the past - from other pho restaurants to boba shops to coffee houses - but nothing comes close to theirs. They serve it in a glass cup with ice alongside a cup of condensed milk, while hot coffee drips into it. After a few minutes, you're left with one of the best Vietnamese coffees I've ever had. And let's not forget about the pho itself - it's simply AMAZING! Even though I'm not the biggest pho fan, I always finish every last bit of their bowl. My go-to order is usually the rare beef and beef brisket, but I'm confident all their other pho selections are just as good. This place has been a staple for me since my college days in Grand Rapids, MI. I'm just grateful that I can always return to it whenever I'm back in town :)“
“Food was excellent, prices very reasonable. Best Chinese food in the area! I got the beef lo mein and the beef was nice and tender. Portions were just right. Their bakery items are also very good. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for Chinese food in the area.“
“I ordered the Mongolian Beef combination meal. Even though I ate in, I had to order from the front counter and the food was served in to-go packaging. I was left to get my own eating utensils and condiments. They have a VERY small selection of canned or bottled sodas. The first thing I noticed was that the gravy had been overthickened with corn starch/arrow root powder to the point of being gelatinous. In addition, the beef was of a consistency of having been way to tough to start and severely overboiled to tenderize it. Other than these issues, the depth and quality of flavor easily overcame the previously mentioned shortcomings. The amount of heat was perfect. Sadly though, no fortune cookies are included in the meal. If it hadn't been for the great flavors, I would have rated my visit with three stars instead of four. It is also the reason that I would go back and try other menu items. Next time I will avoid the beef and order chicken.“
“Food was delicious, though the street noodles where very heavy on the black pepper flavor. The Crab Wantons and Crispy Honey Chicken were delicious. The atmosphere was inviting and up scale, and you definitely get what you pay for. Service wasn't bad or good, just kind of par to sub par, but definitely not a deal breaker. If you are out by Knaps Corner and have some extra time and funds to spend on delicious food, I would recommend thus place for sure.“
