“The thing that impressed me the most about this restaurant was the staff. The general manager Rob took the time to make us feel welcome and cared for. He does an outstanding job. The bartenders are amazing. Not only are the drinks inventive and delicious but the service was spot on. At the end of our meal the assistant manager stopped by to check on us one last time. “We stopped here on December 24th looking for fresh lutefisk and were pleased to find we could buy a 5lb filet. The lutefisk was amazing I was told and in the future we will be sure to call ahead and place the order. The manager was running back and forth with several options before we decided to just buy the 5lb filet. I can say I was amazed, they cooked it in the oven and when I returned that evening I could hardly smell anything other than the usual air fresheners we have in the house.

So thanks again for helping keep a Christmas tradition alive and hope the girls hockey team does great.“

Wish my youngests food came out at the same time as the other 4 of us (his came out 10 minutes later and he’s 2) but portions were so big we had enough of our food to share as he didn’t eat his when it finally came. Six bacon wrapped sea scallops, served with a delicious crisp lettuce salad. The salad was dressed with a tasty Italian dressing. I had been craving scallops for many months and was very pleased with Red Lobster's offering! The scallops were lightly seared, cooked through and not translucent, slightly sweet, and no fishy taste - excellent! Each was wrapped with tasty thinly sliced bacon with crisp edges but not over cooked, also. very good. Ordered a side of clam chowder and was told "Manhattan Style" was available. I received New England Style but did not complain because it was thick, creamy, hot and had a good quantity of potato and clam pieces. Best I've had since last trip to Clearwater Florida. I'm not sure the waiter knew the difference between the two kinds of chowders. None-the-less, a satisfying chowder! Almost forgot - great biscuits.\n\nGood, pleasant waiter and service. “I ordered the salad, side of fries and burrata with tomatoes appetizer. Fries were great, though cooled off quickly. Salad was fresh but for such a basic side salad, not at all worth it. The burrata was generous in the cheese serving. Just a small number of tomatoes and enough bread to get through half the cheese. Not necessarily a bad thing to be generous on cheese, but I'd plan to order extra bread (I ordered a side of pita). A very filling dinner.Service was great, as was the atmosphere.I ate here as I was staying here. Great option in that case, but wouldn't visit just for the food.“

“We stumbled upon "Barwaqo" as it's now called when we were headed to the Electric Fetus for a book signing event; apparently this place changed hands about a month ago (Oct 2023) so previous reviews under the old Cala name are not relevant. We felt very welcomed by the owner and staff, and had an amazing dinner of Somali chicken and rice, sambusa, and the spinach dish which game with roasted goat and a fava bean soup with glutinous rice cakes. Everything was fresh and delicious and obviously made with a lot of care, and all of the food we got only came to about $45. We were thrilled to have randomly taken a chance on an unknown place and we will go back in the future. When we talked to the owner outside afterwards, I asked one of the staff what "barwaqo" means in Somali and he said "gift" but when I looked it up, it means "prosperity." Take a chance on this place at the corner of Clinton/Franklin instead of the Wendy's across the street!“
