“Highly recommend giving this place a go. The staff are friendly and professional, the food is excellent, the area is nice. Their restaurant week menu for Fall 2026 was spot on! I had the lobster Mac n Cheese, braised Birria Lamb Po Boy, and got a slice of Boston Red Velvet Creme Pie. Every dish slapped. I'll be back.“

“The Connecticut style lobster roll here was probably the best I've ever had! 🦞 The meat was so tender with just the right chew, and a very generous, well-seasoned portion. “I don’t get crab as often as I’d like but Babii Cajun has RUINED me. I can’t go ANYWHERE in the twin cities and expect the same great service with the same great tasting boil. Love the sauces, the spice level, the FLAVOR. It’s such a great price that sometimes I’ll even grab one of their cocktails. My sister love the Babii spice (aka the lost spice girl) but I prefer level 2 or 3 spice depending on the day🔥it feels like a more elevated experience and I’ve loved the service every time I’ve been. If I had one wish it would be better parking but that just means I get to walk off all that food“

“The meals are consistently fantastic. I’ve never had a bad meal at this restaurant over the last few years. The ingredients are high quality, fresh, and well prepared. The dishes come out delicious every time. It makes dining incredibly easy when I know I can choose anything on the menu and it will be great. The service is also incredible. Knowledgeable, prompt, and friendly staff. The dining and bar areas are equally beautiful in distinctive ways. Very pleasing to the eye. Zelo is a must try downtown, and if you do, it will become one of your go to restaurants for a nice night out.“

“Was truly a great experience. I got the herb seared salmon, and it was incredible. I can be a not finicky when it comes to any seafood. I could not think of a complaint even if I tried. The cheesecake was also sooo good.

“The cashier was really friendly. I asked about the juices and which would be the sweetest and he let me try it first. Ended up loving it. The food was amazing ! Hot honey chicken quesadillas with the best French fries 🍟 ever. Also came with ketchup, sour cream, and a spicy avocado salsa. Hot and fresh and will definitely go back.“

“We stopped here on December 24th looking for fresh lutefisk and were pleased to find we could buy a 5lb filet. The lutefisk was amazing I was told and in the future we will be sure to call ahead and place the order. The manager was running back and forth with several options before we decided to just buy the 5lb filet. I can say I was amazed, they cooked it in the oven and when I returned that evening I could hardly smell anything other than the usual air fresheners we have in the house.

So thanks again for helping keep a Christmas tradition alive and hope the girls hockey team does great.“

“We stumbled upon "Barwaqo" as it's now called when we were headed to the Electric Fetus for a book signing event; apparently this place changed hands about a month ago (Oct 2023) so previous reviews under the old Cala name are not relevant. We felt very welcomed by the owner and staff, and had an amazing dinner of Somali chicken and rice, sambusa, and the spinach dish which game with roasted goat and a fava bean soup with glutinous rice cakes. Everything was fresh and delicious and obviously made with a lot of care, and all of the food we got only came to about $45. We were thrilled to have randomly taken a chance on an unknown place and we will go back in the future. When we talked to the owner outside afterwards, I asked one of the staff what "barwaqo" means in Somali and he said "gift" but when I looked it up, it means "prosperity." Take a chance on this place at the corner of Clinton/Franklin instead of the Wendy's across the street!“

“I’ve only visited this place twice, but both experiences were very good. It’s not a fancy restaurant, but the food was good, and the service was surprisingly good, especially considering the price.

You can certainly spend more money at a fancier or more authentic Chinese restaurant, but for the price, I think this place is a solid 5/5 in terms of value.

It’s also conveniently located in Dinkytown, which makes it easy to get to, although parking in the area can be a challenge.

The restaurant doesn’t seem to specialize in spicy food, which may actually be a plus for many people who prefer milder flavors.

I’m going back to this place for sure in the near future, perhaps next week.“

“My husband and I have dined at Clay Oven at least 20 times. Very nice ambience and great service. But the reason we keep going back is because of the food. We generally order some combination of chicken makhani or chicken tawa, shrimp coconut curry or shrimp korma, aloo gobi, palak tofu, and baingan bhartha, all medium spicy. And, of course, some garlic naan. We are very happy to live close to such an excellent Indian restaurant!“

“I don’t think I’ve been quite disappointed this much to be honest. Everything was too salty, the gizzards were so tough I had to throw it away…. Perch was salty, coleslaw was alright. It is too bad I had this experience because I was really hoping for a good fish place to come once a week“
