“Fantastic and delicious cake! I came to LaBamba based on great reviews and those reviews are 100% good!!! I needed a dessert for a Mexican themed birthday party for 16 people and she recommended the Tres Leche cake. I picked it up the next day before the party and it was the hit of the party!!! Soooo good! I’ve also purchased other items from them and it’s all been very good. The people who work here are so nice. I’ll be a regular customer for all sorts of things there, now. Thank you for the amazing cake!!! This cake needs to be kept cool before serving. Save space in your refrigerator.“

“My daughter and I were out one weekend morning. I decided I wanted to try this new to us bakery. I will say this is a great place who has phenomenal pastries. We bought multiple items. Each and every one of these we're as good as the photos. The coffee is nice and hot and strong. Slight drawback was it was hard to get somebody's attention to get a refill on the coffee. We will definitely be back.“

And they carry Guatemalan sweet bread which is not easy to find in the Twin Cities. I am on the Board of Directors of the Saint Paul non-profit Common Hope which helps children and families in Guatemala improve their lives through education, healthcare, improved housing and family development. We tried the Old Fashioned, glazed blueberry cake and the strawberry rhubarb filled Bismarck. All three were wonderful - beautifully crafted, genuine tastes of powdered sugar, fruit…just real ingredients. The staff were super friendly and we even got a discount for being first timers! WE had 5 dozen cookies and 4 dozen bars, and at this point, even with only about 80 people, there's maybe a handful of each left and they will be gone before the end of the day. “I love this place! The bakery is fantastic, but I have to practice self control and not go in there every time I come to the grocery store. The grocery store side of the place is a colorful, beautiful, place that just makes me happy when I walk inside. They sell an array of items from cooking vessels, utensils, dishes, to a whole isle of inexpensive spices, fresh produce, meats, and many things specific to Central and South American cooking and cuisine. They have a breakfast/lunch counter with a seating area where you can order an array of authentic cuisine including tacos, beans and rice, burritos and more.“

“Right as you walk in, you greeted by all the wonderous aromas of both sweet and savory freshly baked items. I had a very hard time deciding what I wanted. I had missed the information that it was a French Asian fusion bakery, but the signs were there. Red bean buns, instructions on how to use tongs and trays correctly, but the best part was the gentlemen at the counter. They were very welcoming and polite, told me to skip the tip screen (it's rude to tip in asian cultures) and then asked for my tongs with both hands. I was almost gitty with the opportunity to use my Japanese to thank him politely. He automatically responded back in Japanese and then took a step back and smiled wide as he noticed what happened. We had a small conversation and I finally sat down to eat my lunch with my daughter. My daughter and I cleaned our table and returned our trays and with a happy smile the gentlemen wish us a good day and to see us soon. If you have never traveled to Japan, this café will only give you a glimpse, but still, it was a wonderfully surprising bonus to my day. I highly recommend a visit and to visit often!“

But after trying Nickola's Bakery cinnamon coffee cake, I can safely say that I have found a superior favorite. Without any doubt a 5 star product from a 5 star bakery. Charging $5 for a single cookie just feels... off. Even accounting for overhead, the actual cost to make one cookie is way* less than $5. That kind of markup feels excessive- especially right now, when so many of us are being nickel-and-dimed from every direction.

I was genuinely excited to have a cookie shop nearby to satisfy those “I just want one good chocolate chip cookie” cravings. But at $5 each, the cookie would need to be exceptional. Instead, it tasted more like something factory-made than homemade, and my friends and I even wondered if they’re baked in-house at all.
Disappointing, to say the least. A more reasonable price could turn this place into a local gem. Right now, it just feels like a missed opportunity.“

All pretty good, donuts are huge, could only eat half. Shared the turnover and oreja, was nice and flakey, next time will not share. Picked up some cumin, dried whole cinnamon, and dried chile. Prices are really good and people running store are friendly and helpful.“
