“Came on a Saturday at 2pm and was a little sad to see that they didn’t have any of the vegan loaves of bread, but did get a baguette (contains egg) and it was realllllly good. Everyone knows that gluten free bread is not the same as gluten-filled bread, but this baguette had a nice amount of crunch to the outside and it was perfect with soup. Wish they had more vegan options available as not everyone in our family can have dairy and eggs. But absolutely will be back to hopefully snag some more gf goodies again soon!“

“Came upon this charming little bakery after walking around Lake Bde Maka Ska during a recent visit to Minneapolis and so glad we did.

We almost missed it, as it's in a nondescript office building and from the outside looks like a dentist's office. But once you step inside, it's warm and charming and full of friendly people and excellent baked goods.

I'm a particular fan of Kouign-amann, and wherever I find it, I have to try it. Black Walnut's is lovely - flaky and sweet and buttery without being greasy. They have a classic and a Raspberry Passion Fruit which is definitely worth the extra calories. I also had a Croque Monsieur, so I can say their bread is also lovely. The coffee and service were both good and the pastry case left us wishing we'd be in Minneapolis longer. Looking forward to trying the excellent looking Pan de Suisse next time.“

“Can’t believe I haven’t ever reviewed this place. Been here many times. Stopped going for a bit around Covid because the food quality dipped a lot. I like their biscuits and gravy but the biscuits were coming out burned a couple different times we went. Finally decided to give it another try and the quality seems to have improved again. Will be adding it back into the rotation. Their bakery and bread is always worth a stop also.“

“The beautiful look of the cupcakes, is somehow surpassed by the wonderful flavors of the cupcakes. The delicious flavorful cakes and cookies, nothing like I have ever tasted. They have brightened up the building formerly known as QC pizza and numerous other food pop in spots, to bring truly wonderful vegan num nums to the Nokomis neighborhood. LOVE IT!!“

“The best cookie shop in all of downtown. They are always so flipping soft and sweet (well the ones i choose are) and it's really hard to have just one. My favorites are the chocolate chip and the double chocolate sea salt. Delicious. And they are a staple of downtown, I remember coming here in the late 90s when I was still in high school, they know what they're doing.

Parking: Plenty of parking, but its all paid. Its cheaper if you can find street parking.“

“One of the best donut shops in South Minneapolis if not all of Minneapolis, Mel-O-Glaze has sweet staff, a sweet atmosphere and even sweeter treats. I've never gone in when they haven't been offering free samples to tempt me to buy even more than I walked in planning to get. Their donut holes in particular are outstanding. I have never been a huge fan of them until I tried one here, and now it's all I can think about when we decide to go out for a weekend donut run. Their donuts are also delicious with a range of flavors from the traditional to the fruity to the more adventurous. All are incredible.“

A lot of other bakeries have stuff that tastes like bland butter mixed with sugar but this place has very good flavor. Not too sweet, high quality ingredients. The cupcake samples made it a hard decision, but we ended up going with a 6 inch chocolate cake topped with caramel and rose, and an 8 inch champagne. both filled with cream cheese and iced with buttercream. The staff was both friendly and helpful, which was greatly appreciated as I had a lot of questions.

They do add a 20% living wage surcharge in lieu of tipping, all of which goes to the staff. Fortunately, leaving an additional tip is permitted, as it should be.

The space is open, bright and sparkling clean. Sat by a big window along Marshall Avenue. Lots of activity. The good kind.

Had the Grain Belt Breakfast with Kramarczuk's sausage. Hey, it's Nordeast. The dish was perfectly prepared, attractively presented, and the toast was amazing! So light!

Also had a virgin bloody Mary. The mix is made in-house. Reminded me of the mix at the long gone Modern Cafe. Thick, spicy, and tart.

Over all, a quality experience. And with such a vast and varied menu I'll be returning often for both breakfast and lunch.“

“We are totally addicted to Cafe Ceres. They have really unique coffee flavors and they absolutely nailed the sweetness level on all of them. Flavored coffee tend to skew quite sweet but Cafe Ceres balances their drinks wonderfully. My current favorite is the ras el hanout latte.

Don't miss the pastries either- they were all absolutely wonderful with excellent seasonal variety.“

“I was visiting the St. Paul area and we drove out to Sift, braving the MN highways, on both Saturday AND Sunday morning. Totally worth it.

This is *the best* gluten free (and dairy free) bakery I have been to ever.

Cinnamon Roll- initially disappointed in the appearance/size, however, the taste and texture and the fact that it was GF & DF made up for it. I bought one on both days.

Chocolate Babka- the baked good was incredibly tender and delicious. I would prefer a different topping other than a cinnamon struesel, but still delicious. I bought one twice!!

Maple Pound Cake- yum!

Blueberry muffin- the best!!

Scotcheroo- I’d skip next time. Not enough “binding” butterscotch to the hard rice cereal. Didn’t fulfill those nostalgic vibes for me.

I wish there was a bakery as thoughtful and mindful (dare I say demur? Certainly the staff was! ;) in their offerings as Sift!

Fingers crossed that my daughter chooses a college in your area. I can’t wait sit to come back!

Some days it looks like the barista has just rolled out of bed and walked in to work. Love that they’re comfy but pajamas aren’t really appropriate for work, especially when handling food and drinks.“
