“Nice bar seating area to watch games and order food. Ate brunch on a Saturday and got the classic eggs Benedict and a cup of coffee. All tasted good. I did appreciate my servers and how well staffed the place seems to be. Just once I had finished my food, I would have preferred they gotten my payment/receipt to me faster.“
“I got the 60/40 burger rare and chicken tenders with a hot dry rub, and it was cooked to my liking. I also got a Moscow Mule, it was okay, but nothing to write home about.Parking: There's a free parking lot but it doesn't have a lot of stalls. I had to park 2 blocks away and walk over. It wasn't a big deal but it would be less than ideal in the winter.“
“Extremely friendly atmosphere and staff. Our server, Jackson, has the best personality. Being our first visit, he explained the ingredients and recommended to try different sauces which were great. We asked to speak with his manager and Danny was just as kind. It’s nice to see a manager supporting his team with pride.“
“This place is famously known as the home of the "Jucy Lucy" (or "Juicy Lucy"), a burger that has earned iconic status among locals and visitors alike. This casual eatery offers a quintessential dive bar experience with a straightforward, unpretentious vibe that focuses squarely on serving up delicious, hearty fare. The Jucy Lucy itself is the star of the menu—an ingenious burger with cheese melted inside the beef patty instead of on top, leading to a gooey core that’s both surprising and satisfying. Eating this burger is a must-try Minneapolis experience; just be cautious as the first bite can release hot, molten cheese. Matt’s rendition is often lauded for its perfect cheese-to-meat ratio and the flavorful beef patty that's seared to a crispy exterior. The setting at Matt's is typical of a traditional bar, with a cozy and somewhat nostalgic atmosphere that complements its simple yet satisfying menu. Besides their famous burger, they serve a range of classic bar foods and beverages, making it a great spot for a casual meal in a laid-back environment.Service at Matt's is friendly and efficient, with a local charm that makes everyone feel welcome. It's a great place to dive into the local culture, enjoy a piece of Minneapolis culinary history, and just have a good time with good food.“
“Just tried this place for the first time. Fun atmosphere, great service, great wine selection, and some of the best food I have had at a restaurant in a long while. The baby back ribs and the Five Spice Tofu were particularly good. Loved it!“
“Amazing neighborhood hidden gem! Met the owner Javier, such an amazing man - the restaurants food was outstanding, service was outstanding! I definitely recommend the steak tacos w/avocado salsa -so good!Such friendly and nice staff- I accidentally left a small bag when leaving (there’s so much food and such huge portions couldn’t carry it all) and they literally ran out the door and all the way down the parking lot to catch me before leaving- and then they were so kind and polite about it while making sure I had everything! Completely recommend 10/10 !! If you go definitely meet the owner- you won’t be disappointed, one of the kindest and sweetest people I’ve met since moving back to Minneapolis! Our family will be back very often!“
“Came here on a whim while we were walking around downtown Minneapolis. The service here is wonderful and shoutout to our waitress for being so awesome! It's a traditional style pub and walking in, we felt the chill and cool vibe and atmosphere. Plenty of seating around as well. We ordered the following: Soy garlic edamame: 8/10 - it was really good and salty from the soy! The edamame beans were steamed perfectly and provided that crisp pop when you bit into one. We would taste the garlic as well and it was very pleasant on the tongue. Mac and cheese: 8/10: I thought it would be the traditional noodles but it was penne style instead. It was rich, cheesy, creamy, and the pasta cooked al dente. It came with a toasted, buttered baguette slice. It was enough to feed two people and my coworker and I shared it. It was insanely good but I prefer the regular style mac and cheese noodles. To me, this was like a step above your average mac and cheese. Mexican corn dip - 9/10: do yourself a favor and get this as your appetizer! It tasted exactly like a warm elote! The flavors were outstanding and the added lime was the chef's kiss. it comes with fresh tortilla corn chips and when you first get a taste of the dip, you taste the richness of the Cotija cheese, and then follows the sweet corn and tangy lime juice and tajin. Then you end up with the slight spicy kick at the end. We all came to the consensus that this was our favorite item of the day! We finished every corn kernel. My other coworkers had a steak salad with blue cheese dressing and a slow roasted pull pork with tater tots. They both enjoyed their food as well. Prices were good for the portion size as well and our drinks were refilled and we were checked on regularly. Come try this place out! You won't be disappointment!“
“This place is great.Great food, that is fast and delicious. They have vegetarian options that have an intricate balance of flavors. The staff are all extremely helpful and welcoming.I had the ultimate sandwich and my wife had the loaded tots! Certainly recommend both!Check this place out for some awesome food and wonderful atmosphere.“
“We went in for one of their milk shakes and it did not disappoint. We had the red velvet cheesecake milkshake. This thing came with a whole slice of cheesecake, which was very good ??. The ice cream was rich and creamy. The presentation was great ? we enjoyed it ( one shared by me and my two granddaughters). We will return to try the food menu.“
“Dined in on 3/25 and was greeted by Thunder who was very pleasant and inviting! He talked me through some great menu items and mock tails! I very much his service and the atmosphere provided by the Nicollet Diner! 10/10 will definitely be coming back!“
“Excellent burger and fries with delicious house sauces. The jalapeno burger and mushroom Swiss burgers slap. The burgers are salty so get yourself a beverage to round things out.The house sauces (BBQ and standard house) are real nice. The fries are crispy and satisfying.“
“Food great but as I walked up to the counter the young lady looked at me and went to the back and the other employees just looked at me no one said hold on or she will be back It was awkward especially with the other employees just looking at me and no one said nothing started to leave just as I was about to leave she asked can I help you.“
“Not many people, pretty calm. Had the fish tacos, which were not very flavorful, but I ordered a lot of stuff off of it. Fried pickles were good. Pop was not very carbonated, but obviously it didn't take away from the experience. Probably wouldn't go again, but that's just me.“
“Flameburger was a surprising experience!Full disclosure..I am a food snob! Although I've passed this place more times than I can possibly count (It's right on Central Avenue) the external tired appearance, and my own internal thoughts of what Flameburger could possibly be, dissuaded my desire to ever go.I'm issuing a PUBLIC APOLOGY and a direct apology to Jim (the love of my life) for the past 12 years of missed opportunities. He brought it up as an option early on. I'm guessing I was less than kind about our possible attendance. We stopped in once, and to my relief they were closed..He never pushed it. I'm admittedly difficult.Well..I WAS WRONG!!Note to self, follow your own advice and never judge a book by it's cover!!Flameburger was incredible!Everything was spot on! Perfect Burgers(grilled onions to die for), amazing fish, the best onion rings I've ever had. Crinkle cut fries (which I usually frown upon) were deep fried in some sort of magic! I'm not even a fried food big fan,but exceptions were made and everything was exceptional.Even the soda was pretty old school delicious! The atmosphere...at first, old, tired, I hate booths, but we made do..After a little bit, I felt all the vintagy kitschy goodness of days gone by. And it was clean!! This is huge, it was super clean. No lingering odors of oil and the smell of the flames and fresh burger meat were on point!I always thought it was a counter service fast food type place, so I was pleasantly surprised to sit and have an actual menu in hand and a real live Server.Wonderful Jessie came and took our order (with an pen and pad!). Not ordering from an app at the table is definitely becoming something I'm becoming to appreciate. Once again, old school for the win!I love to see who is involved! Watching John flip burgers in flames taller than me on the flame grill, work the fryers and land all of our food exactly timed perfectly was art!!The price point was still affordable and based on what was on our plates, definitely a better bet than most places. We'll definitely be going back as I was distracted and forgot to order a malt and a milkshake to go..I'm guessing they will match all of the rest of the goodness..And who knew!!! Breakfast is a big thing here. Yes, we'll have to make it a destination spot for breakfast one day soon!!Soooo, if you already knew, you knew. I hope that I'm outing a possibly well kept secret. For all of my fellow foodies, put down your phones and ordering apps, get out of your food halls and pretentious hand crafted nonsense, skip your bougie happy hour over inflated $14 appetizers matched with your $14 cocktails and don't miss the opportunity to go to Flameburger! You won't regret it!!“
“Absolutely delicious food — friendly staff and owners, great vibe. Definitely recommend if you’re lookin for a quick tasty meal. Buffalo chicken sandwich is great & Fries are outrageous. Will be back on my next visit to Minneapolis.“
“Modern Times has a cool, creative/artistic vibe to it. The cafe is bright and the staff are friendly. I love that they offer several GF options an entire vegan menu. The miel is delicious and their breakfast sandwiche on GF bread was amazing.“
“I had to try it, and mean most places do not offer donuts with a meal -- chicken sandwiches or burgers. I ordered The PAT (a steak burger) with fries and a shake. Pretty good. You can order and pay from the counter or via your phone. Atmosphere is nothing special. I guess the only problem I had is the cost. $25 for a burger, fries and simple shake seems high, but maybe that's just the way things are these days.“
“It's been many years since I've been to Dave's just due to my proximity to the location...but I will now start adding this as a more frequent option to make the hike over. The food was amazing, the variety of food was amazing and the atmosphere was really nice.“
“Came to Char Bar for the first time for happy hour on Saturday with Kim T. Char Bar is a speakeasy on the inside of Butcher & Boar (through the glass doors). We arrived around 4:45 pm on a Saturday and it wasn't too crazy busy, we were one of a handful of tables. The hour menu was pretty good! A good amount of food and drink items ranging between $6-10. I had the Chicken Sammy ($10), Kim had an Arby's style 3 Way Beef & Cheese sando ($17), and we split the Curly Fries ($6). I also ordered two of the non happy hour burgers to go ($8/each). I really liked my sandwich a lot, chicken was perfectly crispy, the slaw was savory and sweet, Polynesian vibes. I would absolutely get it again! Kim liked her sandwich but she said the sauce was too much and soaked the bottom of the bun, the curly fries were fine. I had a dragon tattoo cocktail, serenity pineapple rum cocktail, and a frozen rum & cherry coke slushy. Drinks were boozy but pricey! Loved the menu showing the drinks very cute and visibly pleasing. Update: Butcher Burger ($8) was sensational! It's no Parlour Bar burger but it's sooo good, tasted gourmet and traveled well. Fun fact: the restaurant group over Parlour Bar also owns Char Bar! I liked the pickled onions and the chipotle mayo cheese sauce, good solid burger for a good price!“
“Love when I walk into a restaurant and I can see and smell the history! What a charming little neighborhood spot. Was so pleasantly surprised to see that they have a separate room with pool tables and a few different games. Thank you tooties for not renovating your restaurant to look like every other modern restaurant in the US. Keep the charm, keep the old, keep the nostalgia!“
“I enjoyed my dining experience here. There was an approximately 10 minute wait to be seated. We sat at the bar. I liked the seats because we could see the food coming out of the kitchen and the hustle and bustle of the wait staff right in front of us. My order was correct and the food was hot and tasted great. The pancakes are HUGE! Though I do not eat gluten, my date said his pancakes had a lot of blueberries and the taste was great! I gave 4 stars for atmosphere because it was noisy and music was playing overhead. If you are looking for a quiet place, this is not it. The staff was attentive and kind. I highly recommend this restaurant ?“
“I've been a patron of Uncle Franky's since before it became Uncle Franky's and Uncle Franky’s never fails to make me happy! My top picks are the Philly (with white cheese) and the Italian Beef, with either fries, rings, or tots; that decision I make on the spot. I've had many other items on the menu, and everything is consistently delicious, served promptly and piping hot, and all is reasonably priced. Uncle Franky's is simply irresistible!“
“I really enjoyed the chicken sandwich & my nephew said it was the best cheeseburger he's ever had (he's 5, but still). You can technically eat there (or in the connected laundromat) but I recommend getting it to go.Staff is friendly & they have parking on-site.“
“This local "dive bar",checks all the boxes. A nice mix of standard beers, craft beer, and beer from a bygone era (Old Style on tap). Short menu (small grill next to the bar) but the sausage patty burgers are the best. And don't forget the potato salad. I am always amazed with the bartenders who can serve drinks to a full house and grill food in-between pours. This place is the epitomy of NEMPLS“
“Affordable upscale in downtown Minneapolis. It's nice to find a place where sit down entrées range from $20-30 and it provides a good setting for a business meeting. I had a steak, which had a bit of an Asian theme to it but was delicious.“
“My Burger is a generous donor to school fundraisers, and so Ive been eating here once a month with a BOGO coupon, and even at twice the price, this is a great fast-ish food place. Crisp fries, fresh burgers with toasted buns and good toppings. What more are you looking for? Oh right, milkshakes. I usually just take a few sips from my kid's and yes it is amazing. I've sat at the counter and watched the kitchen staff do their choreography. There's some fun art on the walls. It's a good vibe.“
“Love our neighborhood walk up Dairy Queen! Great place to sit outside with the kids and have a treat. The owner is very friendly and remembers us. I have never had a bad experience here.Lots of construction on Lake Street this summer (2023), but it's open for business and always delicious.“
“Delicious ice cream! Friendly staff, lots of flavors to choose from and even provide samples if you are having a hard time deciding. Had to park down the block and a small interior that doesn't encourage a stay a while and enjoy yourself atmosphere. But the kids loves the split option to be able to get a couple of flavors without a ridiculous amount. They are already begging to go back so they can try more flavors.“
“Great food and many choices. Place was full at lunchtime, but it seemed nicely quiet. Everyone was talking quietly. Good acoustics. Highly recommend.Parking: The place was full, including the bar. I found a place and my friend did too but they were the last spots.“
“This spot was a little unexpected. When I am traveling, I love to scope out great liquor stores to find unique or more rare bottles of bourbon, and when I was talking to my friend from the cities, she said we had to go to Surdyk’s. She also said that she heard they have a pretty exceptional bar/restaurant connected to it. I was sold. The liquor store itself did not disappoint with floor to ceiling options, but Sidebar was equally impressive. It had a great ambience, this house old-fashioned might be one of the best I have ever had, and their food was unexpectedly elevated for being a restaurant connected to a liquor store. For example, they don’t have onion rings, they have onion bhaji which is like an onion fritter that was exploding with flavor and texture. Even these roasted brussels sprouts had additional elements that set them apart. There is an obvious reason that the liquor store was celebrating its 90th anniversary. When you’re doing things that well, people recognize it.Wheelchair accessibility: **one caveat I will give to this experience is that if you use a wheelchair or can’t manage stairs, you will need to enter the restaurant through the liquor store. The liquor store clerk that I asked about getting to the restaurant told me I had to go outside and get in the side door, but there were stairs, so I had to find a manager that could let me in through the liquor store.“
“Holy bananas. This place is great! Food was amazing, service was great, atmosphere was awesome for us. I say for us because it was right after open and it was empty. Right up my alley. The bartenders (Jaden I believe and another sweet girl but I didn't ask her name) were knowledgeable and friendly. Beer was fresh tasting. Food wise, the jalapeños tasted like they were just sliced. So fricken fresh and spicy! We got the totchos (exactly what it sounds like and DANK) and the firehouse 21 burger. We ordered it medium, didn't come out pink but it was so damn juicy and tender I don't even care.Overall, 10 out of 10, no notes. Even the burps taste good.“
“A pretty busy place but not super chaotic during lunch hour, although it can get kinda loud. California Burger was ok, fries were solid, shake is a lil thick for the straw, but very good. Friendly service, just listen for your number. No wifi to speak of. App is ok, deals and new burgers regularly.“
“We've been waiting for this place to reopen since we moved into the neighborhood. The perfect little greasy spoon with GREAT prices! Get there early for brunch, it feels up fast. And it can be pretty hot if you're sitting at the bar (immediately across from the grill). We appreciate the history and quaintness - it fits the neighborhood vibe well.“
“Walk up DQ! There's nothing better on a warm evening. NGL, I get DQ when it's cold out too. This location has all the charm of an old school neighborhood DQ and a hard working crew of young people. The customers reflect the neighborhood. Diverse and friendly. They have a parking lot.“
“Had a great dinner at Merlin's Rest Pub Minneapolis. I had the delicious beef and mushroom stew and the wife and son had burgers. We had a scotch egg and the very delicious brussel sprouts with bacon. Had a black velvet which is Guinness and Strongbow cider. My wife had a white Russian. We got to hear some nice bagpipes playing for us. A very warm and homey British pub. Highly recommend.“
“If you’re a vegetarian, this is easily the best burger you’re going to have. My favorite veggie burger in the US honestly. Cajun fries are amazing. The portion size is good and 1 burger is sufficient for 1 person. Highly recommend you try this Minnesota based burger chain.Vegetarian options: They have a veggie burger.“
“This place was waaaay better than any fast food spot in the neighborhood! I ordered the cheeseburger and fries, and that came with a can of soda. While the meat seemed to be REAL BEEF, and the French Fries had a really good powder all over them, the soda was generic and gave me a stomach ache. Also I do have to say that if you ain't got at least $10 don't even go in here (unless you only want some French fries!) It's not as affordable as any fast food, but like I said the food is made of better quality ingredients as far as I could tell. The guys working here were really friendly, and I could tell that the majority of their customers are from the neighborhood! Oh yeah, one thing I hate is when a place don't have no napkins, but it's even x10 worse if they ain't got no hand towels in the bathroom, and these guys failed both those tests, so I could only give them 4 stars, and to be 100% honest with you, it was a bit grimey in the eating area and bathroom, the maid must have been off duty that day. But HEY, don't let that stop you from placing your order, support a local spot, and have a happy New Year! Please give this honest review a thumbs up if it was helpful. That way, I know if people are reading them! Enjoy your food, and please stay strong, North Minneapolis 2024 will be a year of many changes in the world. As humans, let's hope they benefit us all!!!Parking: They have a few parking spots right in front of the entrance that are off-street, so you can wait for your food, or eat in the car. It's all good!Kid-friendliness: They do have a Kid's Menu with smaller portions at a reduced price! However, I definitely do still recommend having about $10 a person!“
“We were in town for a hockey game and this was a couple blocks from our hotel. We were seated right away and placed our drink orders as well as an order of cheese curds and a pizza. The cheese curds came out and they were amazing. We were busy talking and not paying attention to the time. Our waitress came out and apologized for the wait on the pizza and offered to comp the cheese curds and a beer. We weren't looking for anything for free. Once the pizza came out all we could say was fabulous. We had the Primo and it had so much flavor. They were playing great classical music that wasn't so loud we couldn't hold a conversation. If you're looking for a quick bite this is the place.“
“I always love coming to The Depot Tavern before a show at First Ave. They have excellent vegetarian options, service is great and food is always very fresh, hot and delicious. I miss the sauce trio with fries, but like the new menu items a lot! Depot staff do a great job here and they are always friendly and efficient with service. It' so also nice that you can buy tickets here for upcoming shows at the ticket window. Cheers!“
“I ordered the hand crafted granola via DoorDash. I have ordered this before in the restaurant and it was great. Normally it comes in a huge portion with yogurt and fresh berries- perfect. What I got delivered was a soggy drink cup filled halfway with fruit- mostly -UNPEELED- orange slices with a couple apple slices and chunks of watermelon. There was a small amount of yogurt on top of that and a small amount of granola on top of that. The fruit choices really don’t work and aren’t what this normally comes with, even if we are setting aside the orange peels being a bad surprise buried under the little bit I got of what I did order. At first I thought this was a somewhat funny mistake, but having contacted the Uptown Diner and not even getting to talk to someone about a refund, since $14.65 is a lot to pay for a wet cup of inedible food. I live in the neighborhood and have loved this place for years, but this was bad food and bad service“
“Food- it's OK. Just deep fried stuff Pizza is great -Heggies Northeast's best dive bar. Friendly service. Cheap prices. Trivia, bingo, pull tabs for the fools. Great people and atmosphere. CASH only. They don't know what year it is“
“Hmmm… pretty good. Ribfest offerings were aplenty and the pricing was quite fair. I really liked the mac n chz. However the ribs themselves were very small and therefore dry. The pickled things on the side were an absolute withered joke. Got all three sauces and they all tasted the same (seriously? No white BBQ??) I much prefer the juicy ribs from Boomin. But Boomin and Animales both used frozen corn in their elote salads. Serious question, do you guys think the public is braindead? My first bite was literally still-thawing corn with Parmesan flavor. Dilly beans and banana pudding get full marks. Biscuits definitely needed salt. But seriously. Get it together where it counts guysEdit to respond. Bruh that corn was not charred at all which is necessary for esquites. Hence the frozen vibes. And you know what I meant about the cheese. Cotija or queso fresco, whichever you used.“
“First time here. Decided to do a pick up after work. Online order was easy and food was ready within 25 minutes.Has its own parking and nice atmosphere, music not to loud and food wasn't bad.Got the Blucy with mayo and lettuce for $11.25 and decent taste. Lot of nice melted cheese inside the burger.I also got the 10 piece chicken which I felt was a little on the dry side and not much meat for $9.95, wasn't really worth it to me. Overall wasn't bad experience.“
“I have only ever stopped by for service at the bar. I am not a regular and have ordered a cheeseburger in the past and various bowls of soup during my most recent visits. The servers are efficient and genial. The atmosphere is generally one of flat screen televisions with sports galore or unfortunate MTV programs like "Ridiculousness" showing unappetizing features. If you are enamored of sports, this is a great bar for you with plentiful libations.“
“9/2024 Based on the bringing back table service, I'm going back up to 4 stars, the food is always 5, dine in experience is 5, still irritated that you can't order for a specific pick up time for carry out, but the food makes up for it.the food is always great, but the shift to Toast leaves a lot to be desired. the atmosphere is no longer personable or really enjoyable, you order and interact with your phone. ordering for pickup stinks, you have no option to place an order for future pickup, and it always says 20 minutes, even if it will be ready in 10 or 40, and you get no confirmation or understanding of an estimate when your food will be ready for pickup. pre-covid the dine-in experience was very interactive and had feeling, now it is very disconnected and robotic. if I could break down the rating, 1 star for dine in and online ordering experience, 5 stars for food“
“We got their cheese pizza and cheese fries and both were phenomenal. First time we went there today on New Year’s Day and so glad we finally made it over! Very friendly staff and the best cheese I’ve ever tasted on pizza, fries, and or otherwise. :)“
“first of all thank you for being open on Christmas day!! and with a full menu as well! I had the philly chicken sandwich and it was maybe the best I've ever had. great atmosphere, friendly and happy staff, a complete joy from beginning to end!“
“We decided to spend Spring Break in the Cities instead of somewhere warm and then a terrible blizzard hit. We ventured from our hotel to The Bulldog for a snack with our two tween/teen boys because we saw they had a kids menu. Our snacks and beer choices (for mom & dad) were great. We would have left with a perfectly pleased experience and been good. But the bartender who was solo and killin it found out we were going to a T’wolves game the next night. She is a huge fan and season ticket holder and when she found out our boys were fans she gave us an absolutely amazing hoodie that she had just scored. We asked her a bunch of times if she was sure and we left in disbelief of her kindness and generosity with a usually surly teen who is floored by her act. Thank you!!! I’m so sorry we didn’t get your name but we will never forget. ? ?“
“I can't say enough about how amazing Francis is! Outstanding food and drinks! They have the BEST Spicy Margarita that I have EVER had! Their drink menu has so many cool and unique cocktails that are different from any I have had before. Then there is the food...I literally think about the Chicken Sandwich daily. My daughter went 3 times the first week they were open, and continues to go weekly! There isn't an item in the menu that I've tried that is anything less than AMAZING! I HIGHLY recommend everyone tries it! You definitely do NOT need to be a vegan to love this food. Trust me, TRY IT! You'll love it and will ABSOLUTELY be back for more!Vegetarian options: The entire menu, including drinks, is vegan. No meat or dairy products, so perfectly suitable for vegetarians!“
