“Mint is the best restaurant in the Boone/Blowing Rock area! The food is fantastic, most ingredients from India. Cucumber salad and hot cauliflower appetizer, the saag options are all amazing. “𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐫 – 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐍𝐂 ---- We are visiting Boone for the next few weeks and decided to check out some of the local restaurants, which landed us at this restaurant just down the street from downtown. --- As an experienced traveler, having explored 68 countries and 36 states, I approach restaurant reviews with clear criteria: Taste, Presentation, and Service. My goal is to provide an unbiased perspective, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses. --- The ambiance was a cross between country and modern flare, with exposed beams, plumbing, and eclectic art combined with beautiful rock walls and pillars and a fireplace, creating a warm, cozy, and perfect environment to meet friends and family, go on dates, or have social get-togethers. --- Wait Staff – Braeden was our waiter. You could tell he was a little green, but I was truly impressed with his attention to the table, which made sure the entire journey this evening went flawlessly. --- Let's talk food. --- Fritto Misto Appetizer – I thoroughly enjoyed the combination of calamari, artichoke, zucchini, and pickled peppers. The batter was expertly executed—crispy but not overly so and wonderfully light. The lemon caper aioli was a perfect complement. My only suggestion would be to differentiate the textures a bit more. If the pickled peppers were sliced and left unfried, they would add a vibrant color contrast and a sweet, tangy balance to the dish, enhancing the overall flavor profile. --- Roasted Chicken Cacciatore – I want to start with the sauce as it was terrific. The combined tomatoes, onions, olives, artichokes, and sweet peppers create a rich and hearty sauce to complement the dish. This truly held the dish, complimenting both the chicken and roasted potatoes (perfectly seasoned and prepared). This chicken was cooked well and juicy inside; however, it was SALTY. I would have preferred no salt because the sauce was so good it was a great flavor for the chicken. The dishes presentation overall was well done and very inviting. --- New Zealand Lamb Chop – The lamb chops were cooked to perfection. I had asked the waiter to let the chef choose the ideal temperature, and they absolutely nailed it. The chops were impeccably seasoned and prepared, making them a standout dish. Accompanying the chops was grilled broccoli, which had a well-seasoned flavor profile with crispy ends, adding a slightly grilled taste. Though it was a bit undercooked, the overall flavors made up for it. Unfortunately, the Italian pepper risotto was less successful. It was overcooked to the point where it could be shaped and lacked the robust flavor one would expect. The subtle hint of peppers was barely noticeable. The presentation was also disappointing; the dish seemed haphazardly arranged. A more thoughtful plating approach, with the risotto as a base, broccoli neatly arranged on top, and the lamb chops elegantly stacked, would have significantly enhanced the overall presentation. --- Clams Linguine – This was my least favorite dish, primarily due to the sauce. When it arrived at the table, I was surprised to see clams linguine served with a red sauce, which is quite unusual. Despite the menu mentioning white wine as part of the preparation (which I generally enjoy), the heavy tomato presence overshadowed it. The sauce's flavor was unappealing and lacked the balance I was expecting. I couldn't quite identify what was off, but it detracted from the overall appeal of the dish. --- Overall, I would still go back. I think from a flavor profile standpoint, most of the dishes tasted excellent overall, but there was some poor execution on a couple of the sides and too much salt on the chicken. I think a few little tweaks could help maintain an elevated position in the local community.”

“Visited on a busy night with no reservations, so we were seated in the bar. TV and noisy, but was grateful to get a table. Hostess and server were excellent. Food was well prepared and came out promptly. Only quibble was the pasta served with eggplant parm was totally plain; some sort of seasoning or sauce would have been nice. All in all a pleasant experience - would visit again when in town.”

While waiting for our table in the bar area some very rude customers decided to bully a local customer that ended with her being very upset. Katrina, Stephen and Landon (I hope I have their names correct) went above and beyond to ensure this young lady was protected and taken care of. Not only is the service, food and atmosphere amazing, we will continue to visit Makoto's because of the actions these individuals took to protect a customer.”

“My wife and I had the Dragon bowl and the Acerola smoothie. Both were absolutely delicious! The bowls were bigger than others we have had in the area and the fruit was so fresh that I thought they were growing it in the back! Jessica and Mike are the best and they are so welcoming that you feel like you have known them for years. Next time, and there will be MANY more next times, I'm going to add cacao nibs. I think the chocolate would add another mood boosting layer to my already insanely healthy breakfast. This kept me going all the way to lunch and I even skipped coffee! I can't wait to go back to Seaboard Station Palm Berries and try the next bowl.”

My goal is to provide an unbiased perspective, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses. --- Ambiance – The restaurant blends the local cabin feel with modern décor creating an amazing indoor and outdoor dining area suitable for small gatherings including friends, family, business meetings, and groups, along with the ability to entertain larger setups for group events. They utilized modern touches such as large chandeliers and decorative lighting coupled with local artwork on the walls to create a culturally diverse space with a local vibe. --- Wait Staff - Our waitress was exceptionally attentive, offering insights into the diverse flavors of the menu. Highlights included Woodfired Flats & Pizzas, Handhelds/Sandwiches, Burgers, Tacos, and Soups/Salads. --- Food – In an area with plenty of traditional food options that provide standard burgers, sandwiches, and salads, this restaurant stands out by elevating ingredients and flavor combinations to new heights. Each dish showcases a commitment to fresh, quality ingredients and innovative flavor profiles truly brings their dining experience to an elevated level. --- Boone Philly: Deemed a customer favorite featuring tender chicken (or steak) paired with onions, peppers, mushrooms, and melted cheese on French bread. This seemingly simple dish impresses with its robust flavors and perfect harmony of taste, texture, and blend. It’s not your typical Philly. I would put this sandwich up against some of the local staples back in Philadelphia. --- Fig and Bacon: A standout dish, the Fig and Bacon grilled chicken sandwich on toasted sourdough is topped with applewood smoked bacon, whipped goat cheese, smoked gouda, and housemade fig marmalade. The fusion of sweet, savory, and creamy textures creates a truly exceptional culinary experience. My only small criticism is to be careful with the goat cheese. There were bites of the sandwich where the goat cheese overpowered all the other flavors. --- Side Options: Sandwiches come with a choice of chips or coleslaw, with upgrades available like Sweet Potato Fries, Mac N’ Cheese, Grilled Asparagus, and Fried Plantains. Do not just pass by the homemade chips, crafted with the same dedication to quality and freshness evident in every aspect of the menu. --- For those seeking a lunch spot that redefines classic dishes with innovative twists and exceptional quality, this local gem, open for lunch and dinner, promises a dining experience beyond the ordinary.”

“There have been comments about how slow the service is. Well let me tell you, when the "biscuit experience" is like mine, there is going to be a wait from the throngs of people just scrambling for the experience because it was ah-mazing. I got a country ham, egg, cheese biscuit. The ham was perfection but that biscuit... let me just tell you, I have had many... I mean MANY biscuits in my 68 years but NEVER have I had one where the biscuit did not crumble. Eating a sandwich this flavorful without a crumbling biscuit made for the most wonderful breakfast biscuit I have ever had. If I thought for one second they would divulge their recipe I would certainly ask. Again, the best breakfast biscuit experience this 68 year old has ever had. Well done!!!!!”

More on me for not realizing and not a big deal but understand that they are baked to order so expect to wait while they are in the oven. Trust me they are worth it.”

We loved the brick wall where we sat. Even the one bathroom had brick showing and really liked the sink and dresser/bottom of a hutch?

We were welcomed in by Sandra. She was very friendly and helpful! She explained how to order our food.

We looked over the menu and I ordered the chicken pesto panini. My daughter ordered the balsamic berry grilled cheese. We also received a side of microgreens. It did take a while to get our food, as they were busy, but it was worth the wait! The sandwiches were absolutely delicious!!!

Shout out to Chaya and Vincent who took our order and made our sandwiches. They were amazing. They were very friendly and helpful! You can tell that they love working there. They had great positive engery! If you are visiting Boone, we highly recommend Rooted on King!”

The service at Mary’s Kitchen is just as warm as the food. We were greeted and helped by three generations -- mother, daughter and grandmother -- who all treated us like family even though it was our first visit.

If there’s one critique, it’s that you might leave wishing you had room for more—everything on the menu looks tempting, and the portions are generous enough to satisfy even the heartiest appetite.

“Loved the mother daughter weekend R&R all inclusive retreat. We enjoyed yoga, meditation, massages and short hikes. Food was good. Room was nice and clean but a little warm (no AC). Only complaint is the yoga equipment room smelled bad, like dirty socks. Yoga mats, pillows and seat backs were noticeably dirty and no one wiped them down after use. It was a major turn off and hard to overcome with meditation but we tried. I came home with Covid.”

“I was very disappointed. Usually their pizza is excellent this was over cooked and not well made. We ordered it from a delivery service have my granddaughter got a flat bread pizza that she couldn’t even eat she said it was disgusting. Just a suggestion maybe you want to use the mini chocolate chips in your cannolis I think they would be much better than trying to eat the big ones with the cheese mixture. At least they were good. Their house vinaigrette was very good at least I enjoyed the salad!”

“FB peeps, this is a Five Guys, so it goes without saying that the place is spotlessly clean and the burgers and fries are excellent. The staff is excellent as well -- always pleasant and friendly, AND... Yesterday, Lisa Zakolski had to be taken out of the restaurant on a stretcher (no worries, she's fine -- albeit tired -- and resting comfortably). Far from being unhappy about all the commotion, the staff could not have been nicer. In particular, one young man, whose name I unfortunately don't remember (as you can imagine, I was a bit flustered), was a total sweetheart -- he prayed with me and refunded our uneaten lunches and offered directions to the hospital. Such a nice guy! So, in summary -- great fast-food place! Everyone should go and give them business. 😊”

Drinks were refilled promptly and ordering was quick with helpful questions and recommendations to make our breakfast complete. The food was prepared as ordered and it was delicious. We had enough leftovers to bring home for another breakfast. We have found Cracker Barrel to be consistently good wherever we travel.”
