“Ever dreamed of a Starbucks where you'd never have to awkwardly hover over someone camping out with their laptop, silently willing them to pack up? Well, Durham's 9th Street location has solved that problem by boldly eliminating seating altogether. (Though I suppose if you're really committed, nobody's explicitly banned bringing your own throne.)
This sleek minimalist outpost at 706 9th Street has mastered the art of the grab-and-go, featuring an interior that's less "live, laugh, love" and more "order, grab, vamoose." The wood-slat walls and efficient counter setup suggest this isn't your grandmother's coffee shop - unless your grandmother was really into Japanese modernism and app-based ordering.
The real genius here is in what's missing: No territorial laptop warriors. No awkward first dates. No amateur novelists working on their manifestos. Just beautiful, streamlined coffee acquisition.
Hours for your caffeinated convenience:
Monday-Thursday: 5:30 AM - 6:30 PM (For early birds and their enablers)
Friday: 5:30 AM - 7:00 PM (That extra half hour is for weekend pre-gaming)
Weekends: 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM (Because even baristas deserve to sleep in)
Location: 706 9th St, Durham, NC 27705
Phone: (984) 842-3029 (Though if you're calling to reserve a non-existent table, save yourself the trouble)
Pro tip: Download the app, order ahead, and strut in like you own the place. Which, technically, you could - there's plenty of standing room for a power pose while you wait for your oat milk whatever.
P.S. If you do decide to test the BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair) policy, please send photos. For research purposes, of course.“
“This is the friendliest and courteous of all of the many Starbucks I've visted.Fast service, considerate and great selection of food and drinksKudos to the entire staff. Starbucks is so much more then what they serve. Their customer service is unsurpassable.
Parking: Drive through line sometimes makes it difficult to get out of your parking space.“
“Ashley made my experience here very positive. She was incredibly friendly and worked really hard to get me my order even with her being the only one working at the store. She really made my experience positive and I will definitely be back to buy a drink again soon.“
“I LOVE this Starbucks location, Rose always makes my drink PERFECT. Even when someone else does it and misses something they are all so nice about fixing it, they are better than the one on Renaissance Parkway by far, the workers here are MUCH nicer!“
“Five stars all the way you can never go home at Starbucks unless you get someone who doesn't know what the hell they're doing
Vegetarian options: A pastry
Kid-friendliness: Kids are everywhere
Parking: Parking there was a huge parking lot because this is located inside a Target“
“Dear Christian,I was in your location several days ago. We had never met. You had shown me grace at the register and served me in the lobby as I was unprepared.Christian showed true kindness in a simple act. While a simple act, a powerful and well needed expierence for me personally. If all humans had this very valuable characteristic. The world as we know it would be a better place. Customer and employee sharing kindness and understanding interactions leads to stronger expierences for both.Christian has leadership qualities, quick on his feet, and understands how to be assertive and make quick decisions from my brief observations.Wherever your life may lead you. You have the skills and heart to do so. Thank you Christian for your strong example in character and work ethic. I never forget these things. Be well.“
“Kid-friendliness: Wonderful environment extremely helpful kindhearted quick service very knowledgeable goes beyond the call of duty very welcoming atmosphere, a delightful place to study or relax great early morning management awesome
Best Starbucks in Fayetteville NC love the ice also“
“Don't really drink Starbucks, so I really didn't know what to order. The young lady recommended a warm drink with Carmel and whipped cream. Let me tell you, it was soooo delicious!
Parking: They did have a shared parking lot with other businesses. It's a popping area, so parking close to Starbucks may not happen. I was able to get a spot not far away.
Kid-friendliness: Yes, it was kid friendly. I took kids.“
“Overall this Starbucks is fine, but improvements could be added.-Five star great quality costumer service.-Quick workers-Workers strive to make going to this Starbucks a good experience-Adds too much ice to the drink, when asked for light ice-Long lines due to being understaffedOverall this place has some cons, but overall decent.
Kid-friendliness: Workers seem to be kind to children
Parking: Limited parking
Wheelchair accessibility: There is no stairs in this location“
“Every time I visit the mall, I stop at this Starbucks. They are actually pretty efficient as far as time because there are a lot of people there. The space is very small so you have to stand up or wait outside. I think they should have some sort of intercom that you can hear outside of the store if you're standing there when they called your name that would be pretty convenient.. but overall, they do an excellent job and I always enjoy my Starbucks drinks.“
“Russell is the best leader I’ve seen at a Starbucks ever. They not only said good morning from across the store to me when I walked in, but had given the very busy morning crew multiple encouraging words before I even sat down to wait for my mobile order. Russell kept customers in the loop, and kept an amazing attitude as the morning picked up - an absolute keeper! I’ve been in service-based leadership my whole life and I would go out of my way to have someone like Russell on my crew. 10/10“
“First Time going to this location. Friendly staff that wasn't over caffeinated. You know what I mean. Made my drink quickly even with the place being some what corded. I did find a seat and was able to relax for a bit. I watch the staff help others and didn't seem to stressed. Drive thru was moving fairly quickly. Overall great service. The coffee is what it is a Starbucks. You know what you are going to get.“
“This Starbucks is my favorite location. The baristas are starting to recognize me as a regular, their wait times are usually pretty fast and consistent, and I’ve witnessed firsthand their ability to keep calm and collected while dealing with difficult customers. I’m leaving a review today specifically to say thank-you for the kindness they showed me this morning when I had to abandon my drinks in the drive through because of a long wait time. For whatever reason, all of Durham decided this was the place to be. They ended up being absolutely slammed and I spent over 30 minutes in the drive through after placing my order through the mobile app. I finally had to just get out of line as I was late for an event at my son’s school. I came back after the event - at least two hours later - and explained what happened. I asked if there was any way I could either get a refund or if they wouldn’t mind making my order now, and they were so kind and joyful and remade my whole order. It wasn’t even their fault or mistake; I’m the one that ordered and then left, but they remade it anyway and happily. This is my anecdote for today but this is the service I have always consistently received at this location. Love the Tower Blvd Starbucks!“
“First visit to this Starbucks. Just driving thru. This is probably the largest I have been to. Very spacious and lots of seating. I ordered a chai latte and it was as I expected. 4 stars is because of the bathroom. There are 2 bathrooms. Each has a key pad on the door and you ask at the counter for the number. There is a button on the inside of the lock face that flashes red when you press it but then nothing to indicate if it is locked or not. From the outside you cannot tell if someone is in the bathroom. You enter the code and try the knob and it doesn't open.“
“Excellent staff, amazingly efficient, and seamless integration with mobile ordering. Pick up either in drive-thru or in store. I order a specialty drink and breakfast sandwich in the morning sometimes around 7 AM, get in the car as soon as it’s placed, drive the 5 minutes to the location, park, walk inside, and grab my order from the counter. without exception, my order has always been ready in the very short time it takes to drive from home to store. Staff, again, are very friendly and helpful—a truth at most Starbucks locations, but this store is a standout. If you use the Starbucks app to order, the rewards build up pretty quickly. And it’s super convenient to see what’s in stock and not just by browsing the mobile app—it hasn’t been wrong in my experience!“
“My experience here today was great. I came in with a request I wasn't sure about and was not only given several options on how I could get my drink, but both Paris and Keimauri went above and beyond with friendliness and service. These young ladies gave phenomenal service and deservesrecognition for their efforts.“
“I work night shift so caffeine is a life saver to make it through these 12 hours. I spend at least $100 a month at this Starbucks. I always get excellent service. The third shift crew always has an inviting and fun energy. My drinks no matter how complicated are always made right and they always check to make sure I am satisfied.“
“Javon was extremely great at his job today I went to get a coffee. And he showed nothing but kindness to everyone he talked to and knows how to make a great conversation. Would come back just because he is a great person to get your coffee from!“
