“I live in Maryland and often visit my sister who lives in Monroe.
The food is delicious and the services is as equally good.
I was blown away on a visit to the Palace and the waitress knew what I wanted.
Talk about extraordinary customer service.
Thank you for making me feel like part of the community.
I never leave town without a visit to the Palace for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
In addition the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable.
I wish there were more restaurants that took this type of time to take care of there customers.

“If you asked me a few weeks ago if I would recommend this place, I probably would say yes. We usually never have any issues here but this past Saturday was terrible. There weren't many people inside which was nice but the hostess was so focused on her phone that she didn't see us come in. One of the waitress asked her if she helped us yet. I believe the owner took our order which she got wrong. I'm allergic to gluten and the Philly cheese was on a regular bun and not gluten free. She told me I spoke to quietly and didn't hear me. WTF? She heard me say my order ( Philly, meat and cheese, with fruit) but she didn't hear the gluten free part? I asked my daughter if I said it just to make sure and she said I did. Being a vegan is a choice, being allergic to gluten is not. I'm not sure if we will come back. She didn't even apologize. One of the other waitress was very nice about it and apologized.“

“We had a great family experience. The food was good, the atmosphere was pleasant, and prices were reasonable. The experience was made especially pleasant by Mike, our server for the evening. “We had a surprise birthday party for a family member today!! What a great time. We had use of the Queens room, The food was great as usual but I need to bragg especially in our server Jeanette. She was amazing she handled us all with efficiency and grace!! I know we drove her crazy but she was amazing!!!! Thank you John’s place for a wonderful time and again kudos to Jeanette !!!“

“Eat there every time we are in the area. We always enjoy the home cooked food. Tonight my husband had the baked chicken with dressing, green beans and black eyed peas. I had the sausage with cabbage, mashed potatoes and black eyed peas. Both meals were delicious!!“

“Great place with great food and service. The very infamous rule about cell phones is understandable but it feels oppressive and makes you feel worried about even just looking at your phone on silent.
Parking: Very small parking lot. Difficult to find a space during busy times.“

“I was very hungry when I entered knife and fork on a Thursday at 4:00. The server with pierced face was very polite and nice and greeted me with smile when i entered the door. She was able to get the waitress and get my food to me quicker than I have ever had. Top notch service for a top-notch establishment. I will be coming here more often.“

“Visited Matthews, NC few days ago and had lunch here. The food was awesome (I had Jalapeno Poppers and Peter Piper burger), and so was the beer selection (I had a really good blonde ale (cannot recall the name unfortunately)). Service was great, and washrooms were clean. The place has a really cool vibe to it, looks like one would feel at home there while watching sports on one of the many screens.“

“Great customer service! I stopped today to get a cup of coffee. I start by saying I am not an avid coffee drinker. I let them know this and they made a suggestion, I did not like it. Before I left the establishment they made sure that I had a perfect cup of coffee that I enjoyed at no charge. If you haven't tried them you should go. #MonroeGem“

“Down home cooking great variety, Southern Greek foods. Older restaurant with great food and great service. GREAT Service! We have visited several times and they always go over and above our expectations. We quickly noticed that although we may have an assigned table and waitress, the waitresses support one another. A family atmosphere like a friend invited you to "dad & mom's" house for a bite to eat, and mom and the family give it their all.“

“The food is good, but gets cold very fast because no matter what it’s freezing in the Matthews location… Always! I’ve asked them to turn the air up and they always say it’s broken. We stopped coming for a while because our food gets cold almost instantly because of the temperature, if they could fix the air, I think they would do much better!“

“They have good services and a good variety of food selections. It's a good break from the regular fast food options. Their shrimp ?, and deluxe cheeseburgers ? with bacon ? added are delicious. I always get extra lettuce, tomatoes & mayo. They have an old-fashioned thick cold custard ice cream ? which is delicious.

“It's been years since I have had food at a Hickory Tavern. I ordered the Smokehouse burger, and it was delicious. It came out fairly quickly. Our server was really good. I can't remember her name, but she was working the bar on December 9th, we were at table 33 (the three sisters). We want to thank her again! She was quick, nice, and understanding.“

“Maria and Lauren were amazing! Food was incredible..as usual. Maris somehow got our drinks and food out VERY fast considering how busy they were! Very impressive! Lauren makes some FANTASTIC DRINKS! I recommend the Gunslinger cocktail! If you ever stop by Jekyll in Matthews, ask for Maria as your server and you will be very happy with your experience! Will DEFINITELY RETURN SOON!!!“

“6/16/23. A group of 20 of my sewing group ate at Mr G's, trying out the restaurant under new ownership. A couple of mix ups, when one of our guys got someone's vegetarian gyro. Got that quickly solved, and he decided that it was delicious too! Hot onion rings with real onion, great gizzard, pork chops, fish sandwich, hamburgers. All was fresh and hot from the kitchen and great service! We are very happy with the new "Mr G's", even though we miss Bill and the crew who had served us so well over the years. We will be back!!

“Came to Hickory Tavern for the first time tonight and all I can say is Wow, my expectations were exceeded. The food was delicious and our server Kara was amazing, she did a great job. She was very sweet and attentive and able to answer all of our questions. She suggested the spinach dip and it was so good we ended up getting a second one …. LOL. I also got the Chicken & Rice, my husband the Pow Pow shrimp. Sooo good, 12/10. We will definitely be coming back soon and requesting Kara again as our server. Thanks for a great experience, HT!!!“
