“What an absolutely wonderful dinner we had at 081 Cafe in Ho-Ho-Kus! This gem has quickly become one of our favorite spots for authentic Italian cuisine. From the moment we walked in, the warm hospitality made us feel right at home. Joe Esposito, the owner, has created something truly special here, a place that feels like a true Italian family table. Joe’s passion for real, old-world cooking shines through in every detail, and you can tell he pours his heart into making sure every guest has an unforgettable experience. Our waiter, Oscar, was outstanding. Attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly, he took such good care of us and made the evening flow perfectly. The entire staff was professional, welcoming, and clearly proud of what they do, it’s that rare combination of efficiency and warmth that turns a good meal into a great memory. Now, let’s talk about the stuffed artichoke. I haven’t had one like this in over half a century — not since my grandmother made them when I was a child. The first bite took me straight back to her kitchen. Tender, perfectly seasoned, and filled with that classic, soulful stuffing… it was pure nostalgia on a plate. I honestly got a little emotional. If you love traditional Italian appetizers done right, you have to order this. Everything else we tried was equally delicious, but that artichoke alone is worth the trip. If you’re in the area and craving real, heartfelt Italian food served with pride and care, do yourself a favor and go to 081 Cafe. “​My husband and I stopped in randomly on a Thursday night and were blown away from start to finish. We were seated promptly, and the whole evening—from the ambiance to the service to the food—was truly excellent. There was even live music playing in the background; while I couldn't see the entire band, the performer on the piano and vocals set a fantastic mood.

​We started with the Tuna Tartare and the Lobster Roll, both of which were delicious. The complimentary bread service was fantastic as well (though I'm glad we didn't ask for seconds because the main course was enough!). For dinner, we shared the 18 oz USDA Prime Bone-In New York Strip and a side of Lobster Mashed Potatoes. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection, but the lobster mashed potatoes completely stole the show—they were loaded with massive chunks of claw meat and ended up being my absolute favorite part of the night.
​The hospitality was top-tier. The manager, Javier, stopped by our table to check on us, and multiple servers made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening.

“The trout is the best in the area. The servers can be unprofessional and rude. When asked to tie back their hair, the request was refused. A nonsense response of not required was insulting. As an experienced service trainer, the hair in question should have been restraining. Health department requirements override a servers vain attitude.“

“My brothers and I hosted our dad’s 60th birthday in one of the private rooms upstairs. Maria took care of us and service was incredible all night! We chose the 3 course sit down menu and family style appetizers which were all incredible. I highly recommend coming here for a private event and will be back soon to try the rest of the menu!“

“I love to go here every monday lunch. This is my go to place for bento box. I love the cozy atmosphere of this place and there music. Overall the vibes is relaxing. I love to order there bento box, the moment you dine in, you get served a pickled radish and peanuts. The crispy rice tuna we were raving about. So delicious. I will keep coming back for sure.“

“My kids and I absolutely love this place. The hibachi dinners and fried rice are amazing and the portion is very generous. One hibachi dinner feeds me and two of my kids and the prices are very reasonable. The family is very kind. The kids are there helping out and they do a great job. We visited for a family gathering and were shown to a private room; the service was attentive, and they kept refilling the delicious side dishes.
The sashimi was fresh, as was all the seafood. There was a wide variety of tasty accompanying dishes, and the staff were all friendly.
The aged kimchi was particularly outstanding—the assorted sashimi paired with it was truly delicious.
The portions were so generous that they even packed up the spicy fish stew for us to take home.
It was a truly enjoyable and delicious meal.

“First time entering this location actually, the waitress Lakaiya I believe that was her name was very nice and helpful, food and service was great, and of course, my favorite appetizers are the "Cheddar Bay Biscuits" now, as for the ambience and overall environment of the restaurant, it has a low key vibe and very inviting, has a warm feel to it, the waiters and waitresses try their best to provide their services for their customers, as well as the chefs that cook and prepare their food, I do recommend this location though, I also like the music selection on the radio's overhead, nicely done...“

“From the moment we walked in, the host greeted us like old friends and walked us right to our table — I instantly had a good feeling, and I was right. Our server was awesome — super friendly, knew the menu inside out, and was on top of everything all night.

The menu is classic Italian but with a twist — way more interesting than your standard North Jersey Italian spot. The ossobuco was fantastic (if I had to nitpick, I’d say the risotto could’ve used a touch less water and a heavier hand with the parm). The clams were fresh and baked to perfection, and my son devoured his ravioli. For dessert, the bread pudding was absolutely unreal — honestly worth the trip alone.

The sushi is amazing, among my favorites are the Mango Tango roll, Tiger roll, Tri Color roll and Tuna Amazing! The appetizers are small enough portions to try everything without waste!! The seafood is fried to perfection - but it could use some salt. If they start making their own tartar sauce and hot sauce, this place is gonna be packed!

Still worth a visit, although I would just stick to the seafood until they start tightening up the sides with more experience cooking soul food staples.
