“Blue Hill is a basement restaurant on Washington Place in the West Village that has been making a quiet, serious argument for farm-driven cooking since 2000. Dan Barber built both this and the more celebrated Blue Hill at Stone Barns around the idea that what a farm produces, including the things farmers can't sell and the parts of animals that restaurants typically skip, is the most interesting starting point for a kitchen. The room is intimate and warm with exposed brick and low ceilings and the kind of hush that comes naturally to a place below street level.

The menu changes constantly based on what's coming in from the farm that week, which means specific dishes are beside the point and the philosophy is the whole experience. The vegetable preparations here are consistently the most memorable thing on the table, roasted and sauced and composed in ways that make you rethink what a vegetable dish is supposed to accomplish. A roasted beet with something fermented and something creamy alongside was the kind of course that arrived looking simple and tasted like a lot of thinking had gone into it. The grain dishes are another area where the kitchen's sourcing shows most clearly, ancient varieties with textures and flavors that supermarket grains don't carry. The roasted chicken when it's on the menu is the comfort dish the room earns, properly golden and served with vegetables from the same farm. Desserts are restrained and seasonal and land cleanly after a meal that has been building toward them.“

“This was a fantastic experience! From the moment we stepped inside, the staff was courteous, engaging, helpful and knowledgeable. We had a party of 3, and ordered 6 dishes. Each dish came out as it was made and each dish was absolutely delicious. A person in our party had a gluten allergy which was no problem and accommodated with ease. We come to NY every year and this will absolutely be a place we revisit again and again! Vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike will appreciate the dishes and be amazed with the taste! Highly recommended!“

“A few years ago, I was hired to write a series of articles about regional Italian cuisine. Since then, I have been looking for traditional Italian gelato. Until yesterday, I have been consistently disappointed. But this? It was absolutely EVERYTHING I had dreamed about. The prices weren't ridiculous, the bathroom was PRISTINE, the staff were helpful and friendly and it was incredibly, amazingly delicious. My only complaint is that I live too far away from your stores to get it very often. But about that? My hips are less upset about the distance. :) I will definitely be back, though!“

“We went directly here after eating at the Cafe because I had my heart set on an onion bagel, and possibly a garlic bagel. The Cafe didn't have either option but I needed them in my life. So we walked over right after. Super cute small spot. Beautiful smoked fish in the cases, amazing cream cheese options. I so wanted the caviar cream cheese, but we just ate and we were gonna be walking around for a few hours. So I got 2 onion and 2 garlic bagels. They thought we was nuts not wanting anything done with them. Like I said I just needed them gonna enjoy it tomorrow morning as our Great American Road Trip continues to Boston. Personally next time.. I'd go to this original location, more variety, of bagels and cream cheese, but no seating. So pick what works for you but definitely Go! 100% recommend.“

The food was more than we could even expect. The seafood tower is quite an experience, treat yourself! “I spent the last few days going a concert at the Bowery Ballroom and went to Nolita pizza every night and it is the best pizza I’ve ever had. The Sicilian double pepperoni with hot honey was insanely delicious. I’m waiting for them to add my new appetizer I suggested pepperoni basket . Because they are so delicious. Everyone working there especially the owner is super grateful and kind. “What a delightful little breakfast/brunch place!!! We went here straight from the airport on our way into town, luggage and all, and it was perfect! We sat in the little outside area with the fans because the A/C was broken inside. My mom ordered the Grey Dog’s Breakfast with her eggs scrambled, French toast, and bacon, and it’s served with home fries. I ordered the egg and cheese croissant minus the parsley (not my fave) and added bacon. I’m picky about my home fries, so the server offered me french fries instead. We had exactly zero complaints about our meal. The portions are big, the eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly, and the French toast had this sweet butter with it that I can’t even compare to anything because it was so unique and delicious. The home fries ended up being DELICIOUS. The French fries were also good. I enjoyed the seasoning on them as well. I’m not a big fan of the thing shoe string fries, but these were good! The three employees we encountered were all very friendly and I would be more than happy to eat here again any time.“
