“I love the food here. But i went there tonight around 730 and it was frigid outside. Just as we were sitting down to eat our food the worker decided to open the doors to carry all the outdoor furniture in then kept them open while he changed trash outside too. Not a care in the world for how freezing it was for his customers. It was extremely disappointing. We drive like 25 minutes to eat here. May be a while before we do that again.“

Chef/owner Corey is a cool dude - he offered his homemade chili oil to me, which pizazz'd my noodles. I've never had chili oil with pho until I went to Corey's; it's now a sometimes habit for me!

This restaurant is the size of a breadbox[2], so call ahead before bringing your party of 8 there. If you want to host a private party, just work with the restaurant directly.

“We went here for lunch. I ordered the lunch special which comes with two small banh mi, pho, and a drink. My husband the bun thit nuong dish. I had beef pho and ginger beer. The flavors were very good and authentic. The banh mi bread itself was crunchy and airy, very reminiscentnt of breads found in Vietnam. The banh mi spread was a bit spicy (surprisingly) when I shared it with my toddler. Overall, good Vietnamese food for a bar lounge.“

“They're open the earliest of any pho spot I know. I’ve been here before 9:30am on a weekday, and once I even had a bowl of pho goodness ready for me before that. Their pho comes with a generous meat serving. If you go, schedule a wake up call after eating.

“Stopped in for lunch, it was fantastic! I wish I was from this area so I could go back. The Pho was quite possibly the best I have ever had. I had brisket and meatballs, the brisket was very tender and the meatballs had great flavor. It is a mom and pop shop, so a little bit of wait but so worth it for the delicious food! “I’ve walked by this spot so many times, and it seemed every time I was hungry they were closed (closed on weekends) but today I finally stepped in. I ordered 2 bánh mìs and a Vietnamese coffee. Pete, the owner/operator of the spot was the only one there and we instantly jumped into great conversation about the music scene in Philly back in the late 90s. We ended up knowing a lot of the same people. Philly is a tight knit group. So even before eating the food I was already a fan of this spot. Pete served me his special take on Vietnamese coffee while we talked and he made the sandwiches. The iced coffee was excellent, but different and less sweet than Vietnamese coffee I’ve had in the past. He also used ice cubes made of coffee which was an added bonus for a coffee junkie like myself. After we talked for nearly 20 min, I walked home with my sandwich and WOW! Such a solid bánh mì! I told him to make it like he would make it for himself (spicy) and he knocked it out of the park. I’ll be back and I’ll be bringing all my music friends here when they are in the neighborhood. I highly encourage Olde City residents as well as Philly locals to give this place a try!“

“This is a very classic hole in the wall vietnamese spot. Everyone seems to only speak Vietnamese but with some broken English, are able to help. The only menu item I've tried is their vegetarian bun bo and it's absolutely one of my favorites I've ever had. They also have radishes and spices on the side which are so delicious and spicy. Great for people who like an extra kick. I'm so glad I found this spot and I've been stopping by every time I visit Philly because it's that good.“

my parents frequent the location next to the hmart in northeast philly. it is pretty great, reliable quality and taste.

food: solid! the broth is incredible I drink that shit up. as for the sides, we usually do a half order of whole chicken on the side. all you gotta do is take your chicken slice, dunk it in the fish sauce and then slurp up a nice chunk of the noodles.

service: the staff is always attentive and helpful!

atmosphere: feels like a typical vietnamese restaurant. I appreciate how they’ve tried to accommodate as many seats as they can. maybe in the cramped side but I don’t mind“

Don't be fooled by the lackluster neighborhood and surrounding area, Vinh Long Cafe is an amazing Vietnamese cafe and restaurant that is surely overlooked and underrated. It is a secret gem in South Philly. The Vietnamese iced coffee is made perfectly and the Vietnamese hoagie is unbelievably fresh and authentic. One reason it doesn't get the visits and accolades it deserves is probably due to its environment. Often the cafe seems to be filled with only local friends or family just hanging out. Sometimes the place is completely empty and they play traditional news or music. It doesn't seem too welcoming to those who don't speak the language, but don't be intimidated as this is just the traditional ways of the people there. Just walk up to the owner - who is always at counter - and ask for a Vietnamese hoagie and coffee. They make the hoagie on order right there in front of you. It's fresh and as authentic as it gets. “I've tried countless pho places and I only go to one spot I like. Welp, I found a new favorite now. Amazing food, the concentration of flavor, the depth, amazing, mind blown. Not just pho even the sides and drinks. I can tell the owners really do care. A fan of the cozy cute vintage design interior too. They were busy especially with the take outs on my tuesday visit.“
