“Ordered takeout for a Thursday night dinner for my family and everyone was very happy. I had the steak dinner which was phenomenal. I also took a small taste of the cod and salmon. FRESH and DELISH. All of it. Meatballs, sausage, broccoli, white clam pasta- all were top grade delicious. Chef Joe was at the bar when I came to pick up the food. “Birthday dinner for my husband! Our first time dining here! Amanda, our server was outstanding! She gave recommendations that were superb. We ordered from the Lenten menu the shrimp pappardelle and the scallop risotto. Both dishes were delicious and plentiful. Service was on point, friendly and professional. “George Martin The Original is an amazing restaurant with exceptional food and service. Parking can be tough in Rockville Centre but George Martin has plenty of parking in the back. The bar is very large with plenty of seating...regulars often eat at the bar to chat with people around them and the wonderful bartenders. Reservations are recommended especially during busy hours. My husband and I started with two signature drinks...coconut Margarita and French martini. One better than the other. We shared a wedge salad which was split in the kitchen and chopped. Delicious! We both had steak, my favorite is Skirt steak, his filet mignon. Both cooked perfectly to our liking...dessert was pecan pie sundae... yummy... The service is the best around...especially the manager Suzanne who walks around making sure everyone is happy...can be a bit loud but the energy is contagious....love it there and so will you“

Earlier in the evening, they had tables set up, but they were moving those out of the way when we arrived to create more space. It seemed like a drag show had just finished. They had a few bar stools along the walls and kept a couple tables at the back. We got chips and guac. The guac tasted fresh and the chips were nice and crispy. Good portion size as well. Their drink prices were very reasonable. I got a well drink for $9. They also had a few specials like a beer and a shot, also for $9. They had a handful of single occupancy bathrooms, which were relatively clean. The music however was disappointing. It was mostly house music. Decent beats, but very few recognizable songs that you could sing along to. It got decently full, but wasn't overly crowded. Folks generally seemed friendly. A good number of people were dancing. I might consider coming again, but would try to pick a day with a different DJ genre.“

The only disappointment was there were only 3 shrimp and loaded with chicken. Delicious but would have preferred at least 2 more pieces of shrimp.“

“I’m a former fine dining bartender, so I might have slightly different expectations than the average patron. I also live a few blocks from NYBG, have been a Member for going on 3 years, and yet have never been able to try this place because of limited hours and I think it’s fantastic!When I came in the restaurant was slammed and everyone really was doing their best to keep everything running smoothly. The (I assume) floor manager got me a Campari (and grabbed a new bottle from the basement!) while I waited for a seat at the bar to open, which gave me a great view of the open kitchen to see how well everyone worked under pressure. It was beautiful to watch. Everyone who waited on me was incredibly polite, generous, accommodating, and lovely.I had the lamb tagliatelle and the garden salad along with a glass of the Four Graces Pinot Noir, which paired very nicely with both. The mushroom in the tagliatelle ragu really shines through, which I loved. The salad was fresh and bright, and just a perfect opener. I can’t wait to come back and try the burger and the Cesar salad.Do I have criticism? Of course. The tag could have been more al dente, the espresso was a bit bitter, and I would love to see a better bar program. But, like, those are minor issues in the grand scheme of so many things to love about the place. It is perfect on a “Spring” day like today. This is a Botanical Garden’s restaurant. We made a reservation for 11 and were told the kitchen closes at midnight. We were running late they called us and let us get there at 11:40. They're was 12 of us! “The location of this restaurant is quite convenient being in close proximity to a number of bus & subway lines in addition to the LIRR.If possible try to come here for the weekday lunch special. The New England Clam Chowder and Shepard's Pie (lunch size) was great. If ordering the Shepherd's Pie take care not to touch the bowl it is served in as one can burn their hands.Whether one is a local resident or a traveler this is a fine place to stopover.“
