“The space is clean and modern and staff are welcoming. The chef Anthony was super friendly knowledgeable! Fish are amazingly fresh rice was also really good. I grew up in Japan so I’m pretty familiar with sushi restaurants but even among those, Shota is one of my favorites!“

“My partner found a hidden gem in Williamsburg. We tried the seasonal omakase set. The fish was fresh, each piece was delicious. Also, enjoyed that when each piece came out, the hostess would show us a photo of the fish we’re eating. Chef Leo is really knowledgeable with the food, so don’t be afraid to ask for information. Will definitely come back!“

“This place is amazing! The staff is so great, and the food was incredibly fresh and delicious. Highly recommend if you're looking for Omakase in NYC/Brooklyn. Also have to recommend Chef Jack, he is the best!
Dietary restrictions: I avoided shellfish and it was no problem!“

“I’ve been to this place twice, and both visits were excellent. I tried the $78, 11-course omakase and the $118, 15-course option. While both were great, I preferred the 15 courses because of the wagyu—it was a standout.
Each piece was expertly prepared by the chef and packed with flavor. Even the ginger was unique, served in cube form, which set it apart from other places. The green tea ice cream was also a highlight, really delicious.
I’ll definitely be returning!“

“Our waiter walked us through and explained everything to us as we are sushi novice. This was a well recommended place for sushi and sashimi and I highly recommend it!“

“New places can be hit or misses these days. This one was a big hit. In order to succeed in that location you pretty much have to become a destination spot, and that requires another level skills. These guys got the experience and created something fun and different (for most NYC). Get the fried chicken, cabbage, steak, and spicy tuna on crispy rice. Full report on EatingwithZiggy[.com]“

“Best restaurant in the area by far! Always great service and inventive and flavorful menu, with always a nice surprise from Chef Jason. Go team Yoyo! Don't hesitate to give them some love, you will get plenty in return. I am a fan (obviously!).“

“First time here and it was amazing!! First - the ambiance is nice. It’s very cute inside, you take your shoes off and sit on cushions on the ground. It feels very calm and relaxed. Second - the fish is really fresh and the concept is fun. It was cool to experiment with the different salts and make our own handrolls. Every piece was delicious. You also get soup, and they have good drink options as well. Third - great service! Our server checked on us multiple times. He was helpful regarding the menu. He even asked if we were celebrating something special and brought a dessert with a candle! We will definitely be back and I can’t recommend this place more.“

“They want to make you happy, and do a lot to show it. Dishes we tried included the caviar dumplings (juicy, wonderfully contrasting flavors, fantastic sauce) short ribs (falliing-off-the- bone tender) and great hand rollls and unagi don. Things got a little busy, and they came up to apologize for unagi main dish being delayed, and plated a free roll. Not necessary, not sought, but appreciated. Even the synthetic maple tree, with its foliage forward orange leaves, looked great.“

“Fantastic omakase experience with great value for money! The ingredients were incredibly fresh. I especially liked the sweet shrimp and scallops. Not to mention the foi gras with salmon combination.
Miso soup at the middle of the omakase was great - perfect for a warming break to prepare for a second round of sushi. If I have to pick any fault... The dessert ice cream was mediocre.“

“This place is the bomb! It’s so worth the price because they really stuff your rolls and the quality is high! The sushi chef is so sweet and talkative! You can tell he loves his job. Juan the manager is such a great time too. Love a restart with staff who love what they do. Recommend eating here and grabbing the lunch special but it’s dine in only. Yellowtail nigiri is just chefs kiss!“

“There's a lot of disapointing omakase in New York, and so I was overjoyed that there is a place at this price point that is among the best of them. Has that attentiveness and hushed, somewhat serious atmosphere you would expect of a good sushi place but still manages to feel cosy and neighborhoody even in Crown Heights.“

“Finally! Wasabi. ACTUAL, friggin wasabi. You must request it as they do not waste it on the uninitiated.
Their menu reflects the populist palate of "Asian fusion" that rules the day as a gateway to purist epicureanism, they excel with the more traditional Japanese options.
They even offer, to the relief of the cognoscente, the elusive, and quite healthy, SPANISH mackerel!
Did I mention the actual wasabi?“

“Loved everything we had - karaage, tempura, chashudon and gyudon. Everything tasted fresh and was cooked well. The chashu had amazing flavor, and the rice was so good. I haven’t had well-cooked rice in a very, very long time. It was quite special!“

“Got the Chirashi Kaisen Don (Chef's Choice Assortment) and found that it was a great amount of raw fish for the price. The order came with Miso soup and a small steamed egg dish.
We got to see the chef prepare it for us due to the seating arrangement, which was a plus.“

“FOOD FOR THE PEOPLE
(Read in voice of @japaneats)
This is no fancy restaurant. It’s your run of the mill local shop that resembles home-style cooking. And it’s great. [insert jokes]. Jokes aside, it’s a place you can eat often. The food isn’t too decadent and the bill certainly won’t break the bank either“

“The service was great, I felt like I was attended to very closely by staff, yet given enough space to enjoy myself. The food was next level, my favorite was the uni wrapped in flounder. No need to make extra food plans after , you’ll definitely leave satisfied.
Great spot for a date or an important meeting. Checks all my boxes!
Edit: had some friends visit from the West Coast and was requested to show them “the spots.” Went back to try the hand-roll sets (having omakase twice a month will kill my wallet) and was pleasantly surprised that they do not skimp on the quality. Applause for keeping up the quality and good vibes Junsui.“

“I go to Planta Williamsburg often and they are always willing to accommodate me and my sugar-free vegan dining. The chef marks up the menu so I can clearly survey my sugar-free options. My favorite dish is the Kelp Caesar Salad with added breaded chicken cutlet. Best salad I’ve ever eaten.“

“I live around the corner and had such a lovely time here, I will absolutely be coming back. The rolls, especially eel, were delicious, and so was the Green tea tiramisu for dessert. Also had great sake, and all this was for a reasonable price and in a beautiful setting. Our host, Akbar, was so incredibly kind, hospitable, and clearly cares a lot about the quality of food and service. Bushniwa really feels like a rare gem.“

“Akimori on the upper east side is a delightful culinary experience. The fish was extraordinary and the presentation was amazing. The vegetarian option could use a little more creativity. We had the restaurant ourselves, and it was like having a private chef. Kudos to Paul who made us feel so welcome.“

“Went on a Saturday during lunch hours and was able to get this awesome Chirashi lunch special bowl for only $18. Looks amazing and went great with the high quality soy sauce that they provide!! Also ordered the mama pho bowl and everything was great! The broth was flavorful and didn't need any additions, except for some siracha for extra spicy flavor.
Atmosphere:The garden area in the back of the restaurant had a calming atmosphere with plants all around and plenty of natural lighting to make it feel as if you were in an outdoor garden!
Service: The service is quick and easy due to buttons on every table that you can push, alerting the server, making the experience much faster than waiting for a server to pass by and getting their attention.“
