“Love Nami Nori and decided to spend Valentine's Day here with my husband. The food was outstanding as always but the service was absolutely terrible. Especially considering it was a special evening, the waiter's complete lack of care was really disappointing and certainly dampened the mood. He never once greeted us, asked how we were, and would just come over and stare at us and say “are you ready?” He never asked if we wanted to order more drinks. When I was listing the hand rolls I would like in my set (you pick 5), he got extremely frustrated because he missed some of them and was extremely rude and visibly annoyed when asking me to repeat them even though that's how most people order the rolls there. It was unfortunate that he was so unpleasant on a nice where many people are spending time with loved ones and celebrating Valentine's Day. Really disappointed in his service and desperately hope he is not my server next time I go.“

“Went after Christmas for dinner. Fresh and delicious sushi and appetizers. If you like green tea must have the green tea ice cream for dessert. Cocktails were well crafted and servers, host offered impeccable and attentive service. Highly recommended.“

“A truly unique and meditative omakase experience
Shota Omakase delivers an experience unlike anything else. The atmosphere is calm, intimate, and almost monastic — a quiet space where attention is fully focused on the food and the moment.
Service is entirely dedicated to creating a flawless experience, with an impressive level of care, precision, and respect for timing and flow.
We chose the omakase with premium sake pairing, and it was exceptional. The selection of sakes was outstanding — complex, elegant, and perfectly matched to each course. The highlights included the premium sakes shown in the pairing, all impeccably chosen.
Every dish was surprising and beautifully executed. Special mention goes to the uni, which was remarkably sweet, clean, and creamy, with absolutely no bitterness or unpleasant aftertaste — a clear sign of top-quality sourcing and handling.
This is not just a meal, but a complete sensory experience. Refined, thoughtful, and deeply memorable. An outstanding destination for those seeking omakase at the highest level in New York City.“

“We’ve been back to Kimyo, formerly Koi, multiple times because their Omakase is great value for the price. Their 14 course Omakase is only $49.00 without drinks and includes delicious pieces with wagyu, caviar, truffle, and foie gras. Definitely make a reservation if you’re dining on the weekend.“

“First I saw the little beings in the edge of the window. Then, above them, bulbs that looked like rocks, floating mid air, dimmed, perfect✨
I wasn’t sure it was still open but my Joshua went on to see if we could have a little dessert at this Japanese haven-the answer was yes 🙌🏻
From the whimsically intentional decor, to the atmosphere that filled the room, the warmth and wonder was everywhere. And we were the only two people in there. Just a few sashimis and then one Kumamoto oyster for me. What a delight! Their fish was exquisite-just as the exuberant expression of when you’re feeling elated “fresh as a fish” goes. The oyster balanced originality with tradition in a complex, yet accessible unraveling to the palette, where your mind can find each of the ingredients meet each other and dance. The creaminess of Kumamoto really allows interesting alloys because of its texture. As I am writing all this, I do remember one more texture. The texture of the rim of the tea cups they served us a delicious Oolang in. Not only it looks like its own little ceramic pastry, but when you would bring it to your lips-Oh! What a triumph of design. Not only it tasted serenely warm, but it felt so luxurious on the lips-even a bit osé if I may 😋
The owner stayed with us after closing, telling us about how him and his wife open this gem in Greenpoint some time ago & how much love and precision they put into it. You can see their eye in every little corner of the place. From wonder to smiles, my eyes wandered softly the whole time we were there. How LUCKY 🍀 we were to have been in a place of excellence. Where taste met design, where they swayed along with sweetness & wits, creating a unique corner for you to feel what is the symbiosis of yin and yang ✨🙌🏻🍃✨🍂🪁🙏🏻
For all lovers of deep & quiet “wow”s…
Thank you 🤩🤗🥳

“A nice small traditional looking sushi bar.
Has a Humble atmosphere. Had 6 different cut rolls and they were good, I was expecting the quality to be higher.
The ingredients used were good and the chef accommodated for the Uni roll even though it wasn't on the menu that day.
Overall it is a nice place to drop by and have a lovely evening to enjoy a conversation over good sushi.“

“I had a very good experience at this sushi restaurant. The service was excellent — the woman who took care of us was incredibly kind, attentive, and very accommodating, especially since one of my friends has a specific diet. She really listened and made sure everything was adapted, which we truly appreciated.
The food was fresh and delicious. The sushi was prepared right in front of us at the counter, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Everything felt clean and well taken care of — even the restrooms were spotless.
The place itself is cozy and simple, nothing fancy, but comfortable and inviting. Prices felt fair considering the quality of the fish and the freshness, though for the overall experience, it might be slightly on the higher side. That said, it was honestly one of the best sushi experiences I’ve had.“

“Fantastic speakeasy sushi joint. Very small, no more than an handful of people may join the omasake style bar where 3 talented (and cool) chefs serve you the best crafted sushi you can get. Definitely going back soon.“

“Amazing and high quality sushi! Always a hit and super fresh. So happy that they opened up close to where I live. I've been ordering from them almost every other week. Definitely give it a try if you haven't before! Note that their restaurant is very small though“

“The outside is unassuming compared to the beautiful garden in the back. It’s a perfect spot for a date or a cozy dinner with friends. The drinks were all hits (I loved the lychee sunrise although it is very sweet). The banh xeo and bun bo hue are definitely the most worth ordering of what we got. I’d probably skip the lemongrass beef summer rolls and try some of the other ones. The only reason for 4 stars is because the service was slow to get our order in and we were waiting for awhile, but they are very kind!“

“Really great sushi and great atmosphere, the staff were very friendly and it felt like having a meal with friends. The pieces you know will be great (toro, wagyu, etc.) were great but they also had the best scallop I’ve ever had with delicious black garlic. I’ll be back.“

“Went to TORA NYC recently and decided to order takeout, but even from that short experience the hospitality stood out. While we were waiting, they offered us water and were really welcoming, which already left a good impression. The space itself looks beautiful modern, intimate, and definitely feels like the kind of place that would make a really nice date spot.
We ordered three dishes: the Yokan Roll, Negichutoro Don, and Gyudon.
The Yokan Roll was a really nice example of how modern sushi rolls balance texture and richness. Inside was spicy salmon and cucumber, and it was topped with lightly seared salmon, mentaiko sauce, tempura flakes, and tobiko. The seared salmon added a gentle smokiness while still keeping that soft buttery texture salmon naturally has. The mentaiko sauce, made from seasoned pollock roe that’s widely used in Japanese cuisine, brought a creamy, briny umami flavor that paired really well with the fish. Tobiko added those signature little bursts of saltiness, and the tempura flakes gave a light crunch that balanced the richness of the sauce and salmon. It was a well constructed roll where each topping actually had a purpose.
We also got the Negichutoro Don, which had minced medium fatty bluefin tuna over rice. In sushi terminology, tuna is categorized by fat content akami being lean, chutoro the medium fatty section, and otoro the richest cut from the belly. Chutoro tends to be the sweet spot because it has enough fat to be buttery while still keeping that clean ocean flavor. The texture here was incredibly soft and almost melt-in-your-mouth. Negitoro as a dish traditionally mixes minced tuna with scallions, since the word “negi” literally means scallion. The tuna quality here was great and the texture was amazing, but I do think it could be elevated slightly. If the scallions were minced and mixed into the toro instead of sitting on top it would distribute the flavor more evenly. A little shredded nori could add some aroma from the sea, and honestly avocado would pair really nicely with the richness of the tuna.
The Gyudon was probably the most comforting dish we ordered. Gyudon has a long history in Japan and became popular in the late 19th century as a quick, affordable rice bowl. Thinly sliced beef is simmered in a sweet savory broth that’s very similar to sukiyaki sauce, usually made with soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sometimes dashi. The beef absorbs that slightly sweet umami flavor as it cooks. Here it was served over rice with scallions, sesame seeds, and an onsen egg. Once everything was mixed together, the egg yolk coated the rice and beef and brought everything together. The sauce, beef, and egg created that rich silky texture that makes gyudon such a comforting dish.
Even though we only ordered takeout, that level of service was noticeable.
Overall the food was really good and thoughtfully prepared. The fish quality was great, the bowls were comforting, and the hospitality stood out even in a quick takeout experience. The restaurant itself looks like a really nice place to sit down and enjoy a meal, so we’ll definitely be coming back to dine in next time.“

“A Hidden Gem in Brooklyn – Freshness, Creativity, and World-Class Wine
Luya Omakase and Wine Bar is a true standout — easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Brooklyn. Every bite of the omakase menu bursts with freshness and balance. The fish is immaculate — you can taste the quality and care in every piece — and the chef’s creativity shines through with thoughtful flavor pairings that go well beyond the traditional. Each course feels like a small, artful surprise.
What truly sets Luya apart, though, is the wine program. The selection of natural wines is nothing short of incredible — bottles from China, Japan, North Carolina, France, Italy, and beyond — curated with intention and discovery in mind. It’s rare to see such a diverse and adventurous list executed this well.
Owner Irvin ties it all together. His passion and deep knowledge of wine elevate the entire experience — he doesn’t just pour; he guides you through each pairing, weaving stories and flavor notes that make every sip more meaningful.
Between the pristine ingredients, inventive omakase, and world-spanning natural wine list, Luya is a must-visit for anyone who loves food, wine, and genuine hospitality. An easy 5 stars.“

“The sushi was fantastic and like all of my favorite sushi buffets growing up. Ordering directly on their website, at $3.75 per classic roll, the value is unbeatable. They even threw in an extra tuna cone into my box.
I ordered takeout pretty late (8:30pm) and the sushi got to me within 40 minutes, delivered by the store staff. The person delivering was extremely nice and patient as I looked for change.“

“I found this place by searching for Sushi Party Trays on Google, and I'm so glad I found it! The party trays are so delicious and so affordable, that you can get a couple for the price of just a few special rolls from any other place! “Very good service. They left out a roll and sent the delivery guy back with it. Plus we misunderstood one of the rolls didn't come with rice and he sent us a replacement roll for it with rice.
Really good rolls/dishes: Kani salad, crispy tuna, special roll topped with seared salmon with tomato (has a really good smoky flavor), Sunshine roll (has lemon which gives it a good citrus flavor).
Just okay: Ari roll (too much rice), paradise roll (too much spicy mayo).“

“My husband and I have eaten in mikawa twice before, the food is delicious, the vegetables are very fresh so is the sushi , I had the soup with noodles with plenty chicken and vegetables in a big bowl. The service is very attentive and cordial. We are planing to go back this coming Wednesday with a group of four, they are looking forward to. We’re very surprised of their prices not expected to be so competitive you would not break the bank. We’re very thankful to have this restaurant in our neighborhood. Respectfully, Lawrence and Laura stelter“

“I don't typically often order from silver rice because they're bit small in the portion side, they have unconventional food packaging containers and they're on the pricey side. However when it comes to the quality of the food they're worth it. I just had to Nagi rice cup and a seaweed salad I literally can't stop licking my chopsticks. It was so GOOD!. Even got better as you dug into the cup lol If you're looking for something different and on the lighter side that was just at the spot. So rice is a good option.“

“Walked into this place on a whim because the ratings were so good. I was not disappointed. Every piece of fish was super fresh and delicious. You could tell the chef was excited about his craft and very knowledgeable. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful as well. The chared otoro was a highlight as well as the engawa.
I was a little worried that it would be overpriced but I'd gladly pay again.“
