“I am a frequent guest at the Nami Nori Williamsburg location, and unfortunately tonight's visit was not a positive experience for my group. I brought a new guest to the restaurant, and she did not have an enjoyable time. She was asked to move her bag even though the bar hooks was not suitable for hanging it, and later, we felt rushed out of the space. While I understand that the restaurant may need to accommodate other parties, the venue was fairly empty, and it was very cold outside. After paying for our meal, we were finishing our conversation when we were asked to collect our coats, which added to the feeling of being pushed out. In the future, it would be helpful to communicate any dining time limits at the beginning of the experience rather than at the end. As a loyal supporter of this location, this visit felt disappointing and not aligned with the standard I've come to expect and recommend to my community.“

“The BEST dining experience of my life. I commend the chefs for being able to create an incredible experience out of a cuisine that emphasizes purity. They are truly masters of their craft, and it shines through with each and every bite. I also want to thank Brandon, and the entire staff, for delivering on just above and beyond service even for a Michelin star restaurant.
My full review of each aspect of the meal:
Food:
We booked the Gentei Omakase experience and loved every bite. I had very high expectations for the rice with how much they talk about it on the website, and even those expectations were exceeded. The rice is spectacular. When it comes to the fish, it was a wonderful mix of classics like Otoro, and an introduction to new favorites of mine like the Kinki. Each piece tastes delicious and came with the perfect amount of freshly grated wasabi. Understanding the selection was seasonal, the mix was just perfect. There were cuts of perfectly springy texture, melt-in-your-mouth buttery sweetness, and delicate umami flavor. I can’t really put into words how the food had changed my view of sushi forever. NOW, let me talk about the sake pairing. My sake experience was H-Mart sake, so maybe I’m not the expert. That said, this sake pairing has completely changed everything I thought sake could be. Brandon, our sake expert, was kind of enough to dumb down the explanations of all the sake to us, giving us a history lesson on each bottle and helping us learn tasting notes to look out for. I felt like it was like someone showing me a whole new world that I didn’t know existed. If you are reading this, best of luck on the exam next year! I want to thank you for making our evening so special.
Service:
I may not have the 20+ Michelin meals the other reviewer had, but of the few I have had, this one stands out as by far the best. They were able to blend together an intimate dining experience and a show. It was food with a little showmanship to curate to those who wanted pictures of every piece and those who wanted to just sit and eat. The chefs were attentive, asking questions on taste and consistently giving context to what we were eating. They gave a thorough explanation on the origins of the rice, and even gave context about seasonality of the fish. I felt like I was in a masterclass, being taught by two of the best to ever do it. Then the rest of the wait staff was just absolutely fantastic. They came by with phone rests, and even cleaned up small drops of sauce on the serving plate, to assure it did not compromise the flavor of the next piece. The level of attention was perfect without being over the top.
Atmosphere: Simple. Just the way it should be.“

“I don't usually eat raw fish but I went on a date at this place undecided that what the hell I'll give it a chance some of it was actually really good even though some of the textures weren't really my thing but I was surprised that I actually liked some of it. The service was good the only thing I didn't like was that they were bringing out the sushi really fast and mixing that with sake made me get sick in the end I don't think it was the food itself I think it was because the servings were rushed so I was eating really fast and drinking sake... Other than that it looks good and tastes pretty good at least most of it my recommendation is not to rush the food out to the customers especially when it's not so busy...“

“We were out walking and I wanted a quick snack, so I got the salmon salad. It was perfect for a quick pick me up and not too heavy, tasted fresh, and the quality felt decent for the price (an expensive snack).
Service was brisk but we only ordered takeout so we didn’t see much of it“

“Fantastic omakase experience with great value for money! The ingredients were incredibly fresh. I especially liked the sweet shrimp and scallops. Not to mention the foi gras with salmon combination.
Miso soup at the middle of the omakase was great - perfect for a warming break to prepare for a second round of sushi. If I have to pick any fault... The dessert ice cream was mediocre.“

“we split the 3-roll lunch combo (we should’ve gotten 2 rolls each) and everything was so delicious. you could see everything being prepared behind the counter, which was nice — the atmosphere overall was just perfect. prices were very fair too, especially given the quality. could not recommend this place more!!“

“This place exceeded our expectations… every piece was thoughtful, balanced, and beautifully executed. The chef’s skill really shines through in the way he pairs textures and flavors. It felt precise and deeply satisfying. We especially appreciated the creativity in some of the pieces and the quiet attention to detail throughout the meal. Easily one of the best sushi experiences we’ve had in New York and possibly in the country! They definitely deserve more recognition.“

“First I saw the little beings in the edge of the window. Then, above them, bulbs that looked like rocks, floating mid air, dimmed, perfect✨
I wasn’t sure it was still open but my Joshua went on to see if we could have a little dessert at this Japanese haven-the answer was yes 🙌🏻
From the whimsically intentional decor, to the atmosphere that filled the room, the warmth and wonder was everywhere. And we were the only two people in there. Just a few sashimis and then one Kumamoto oyster for me. What a delight! Their fish was exquisite-just as the exuberant expression of when you’re feeling elated “fresh as a fish” goes. The oyster balanced originality with tradition in a complex, yet accessible unraveling to the palette, where your mind can find each of the ingredients meet each other and dance. The creaminess of Kumamoto really allows interesting alloys because of its texture. As I am writing all this, I do remember one more texture. The texture of the rim of the tea cups they served us a delicious Oolang in. Not only it looks like its own little ceramic pastry, but when you would bring it to your lips-Oh! What a triumph of design. Not only it tasted serenely warm, but it felt so luxurious on the lips-even a bit osé if I may 😋
The owner stayed with us after closing, telling us about how him and his wife open this gem in Greenpoint some time ago & how much love and precision they put into it. You can see their eye in every little corner of the place. From wonder to smiles, my eyes wandered softly the whole time we were there. How LUCKY 🍀 we were to have been in a place of excellence. Where taste met design, where they swayed along with sweetness & wits, creating a unique corner for you to feel what is the symbiosis of yin and yang ✨🙌🏻🍃✨🍂🪁🙏🏻
For all lovers of deep & quiet “wow”s…
Thank you 🤩🤗🥳

“Amazing and high quality sushi! Always a hit and super fresh. So happy that they opened up close to where I live. I've been ordering from them almost every other week. Definitely give it a try if you haven't before! Note that their restaurant is very small though“

“The outside is unassuming compared to the beautiful garden in the back. It’s a perfect spot for a date or a cozy dinner with friends. The drinks were all hits (I loved the lychee sunrise although it is very sweet). The banh xeo and bun bo hue are definitely the most worth ordering of what we got. I’d probably skip the lemongrass beef summer rolls and try some of the other ones. The only reason for 4 stars is because the service was slow to get our order in and we were waiting for awhile, but they are very kind!“

“This is the go-to spot for fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced sushi—with plenty of healthy options! The portions are generous, the quality is consistently great, and the staff is always warm and accommodating. We ordered takeout and had our food ready in under 10 minutes. “This is by far the best sushi restaurant we have been to, and I would dare say it’s better than some Michelin star places. Not only is each course extremely unique and full of flavor, from sea urchin, to Wagyu, the service is extremely attentive. The chef that was serving us has been preparing sushi for 30 years and it shows. We were so delighted by our experience - it was truly a huge highlight for us. Skip the hype restaurants and try Ishi instead. We will be back.“

“Delicious food and reasonable prices! Businesses like this deserve more attention. I would definitely be back. Tommy my waiter was so kind and welcoming. I had the rainbow roll and the miso shrimp eggplant. Definitely want to repeat that miso shrimp eggplant dish. I requested the rainbow roll have white rice substituted with brown and for them to be light on the brown rice and they graciously complied.
Definitely recommend! Leave the trendy online spots alone and support smaller owned businesses. 💥“

“I love their eel sushi here, it doesn't have as much bones as other places do. I always order their party trays. Highly recommend for big parties. However, the place is small so order ahead of time or expect it to take a while for it to be prepared.“

“This is a review specifically about the Ikura don. I love ikura so was super happy to see that they have ikura don on the menu! I also got the chirashi don, which was great. But as for the ikura... why is it so sweet? The ikura is marinated in a very SWEET sauce.... that I could hardly taste the special taste of the ikura itself. I just wanted to let the management know that that marinade sauce for the ikura is WAY too sweet!! Please highlight the taste of the ikura itself. 🙏🙏🙏“

“A Hidden Gem in Brooklyn – Freshness, Creativity, and World-Class Wine
Luya Omakase and Wine Bar is a true standout — easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Brooklyn. Every bite of the omakase menu bursts with freshness and balance. The fish is immaculate — you can taste the quality and care in every piece — and the chef’s creativity shines through with thoughtful flavor pairings that go well beyond the traditional. Each course feels like a small, artful surprise.
What truly sets Luya apart, though, is the wine program. The selection of natural wines is nothing short of incredible — bottles from China, Japan, North Carolina, France, Italy, and beyond — curated with intention and discovery in mind. It’s rare to see such a diverse and adventurous list executed this well.
Owner Irvin ties it all together. His passion and deep knowledge of wine elevate the entire experience — he doesn’t just pour; he guides you through each pairing, weaving stories and flavor notes that make every sip more meaningful.
Between the pristine ingredients, inventive omakase, and world-spanning natural wine list, Luya is a must-visit for anyone who loves food, wine, and genuine hospitality. An easy 5 stars.“

“Very nice setting, cool bar! It gets a bit noisy inside, though. Addictive cabbage was good! Kaarage chicken was okay, the coating had too much seasoning on it for our taste. The wagyu beef dish as the star of the show. Sadly they were out of chocolate cake. Nice spot, friendly service, great menu!“

“The sushi was fantastic and like all of my favorite sushi buffets growing up. Ordering directly on their website, at $3.75 per classic roll, the value is unbeatable. They even threw in an extra tuna cone into my box.
I ordered takeout pretty late (8:30pm) and the sushi got to me within 40 minutes, delivered by the store staff. The person delivering was extremely nice and patient as I looked for change.“

“I found this place by searching for Sushi Party Trays on Google, and I'm so glad I found it! The party trays are so delicious and so affordable, that you can get a couple for the price of just a few special rolls from any other place! It's a very small place, but it has very big flavor and the best price around!!!!“

“Very good service. They left out a roll and sent the delivery guy back with it. Plus we misunderstood one of the rolls didn't come with rice and he sent us a replacement roll for it with rice.
Really good rolls/dishes: Kani salad, crispy tuna, special roll topped with seared salmon with tomato (has a really good smoky flavor), Sunshine roll (has lemon which gives it a good citrus flavor).
Just okay: Ari roll (too much rice), paradise roll (too much spicy mayo).“

“I don't typically often order from silver rice because they're bit small in the portion side, they have unconventional food packaging containers and they're on the pricey side. However when it comes to the quality of the food they're worth it. I just had to Nagi rice cup and a seaweed salad I literally can't stop licking my chopsticks. It was so GOOD!. Even got better as you dug into the cup lol If you're looking for something different and on the lighter side that was just at the spot. So rice is a good option.“

“It’s so nice to have a boba place in the neighborhood. The boba is pretty fresh from what I’ve had, and the fact that the store closes so late is a huge benefit for a night owl like me. Their selection is pretty fruit-heavy. Just be aware that the kitchen closes earlier than the store as a whole.“

“The best Japanese restaurant in Bay Ridge! <3 My family and I come here all the time for lunch. The food is always fresh and very healthy; my favorites are the salmon and chicken teriyaki, the shrimp tempura and mango avocado rolls. I always ask for it with their delicious brown wild rice and organic miso soup. Their poke bowls are some of the best I've ever had as well! Prices are very reasonable as well, their lunch special is the best value I've found in the neighborhood. 10/10 :)“
