“The food at YSO Sushi on Ridgewood was absolutely delicious. We tried the Volcano rolls, New York rolls, California rolls, and spider rolls, and everything was fresh and well prepared. “We came by (and had always wanted to since before they opened) for our wedding anniversary. We were a party of four (my husband, our son, daughter, and I), we were promptly seated in the back (they asked where we wanted to sit). Our waiter was very courteous and friendly. Our son ordered pork buns and scallion pancakes; they were very filling for him, and he enjoyed them very much. Our daughter got a bowl of chicken shoyu ramen, unfortunately it was too much for her - she enjoyed her noodle soup very much. Husband ordered pork gyoza and chicken yaki ramen, he was very delighted and it tasted great. I went with tonkotsu ramen. All the dishes were well portioned (for their price). Very clean establishment. Also liked the idea that thier sink is outside of the restroom, it is quite brilliant! We also liked thier curtain that were separating the dining area to the restroom. They were rabbit themed, including a mochi making rabbit in the moon. We anticipate our return!“

“Wonder has been one of our most consistent go-tos. Pickup is usually easy, the system works, the space is clean, and the food has honestly surprised me from day one. When they first opened, it felt like every order was dialed in, like the kitchen cared.

I’ve tried a ton of the menu and there are staples I keep coming back to: the salmon is always generously portioned and perfectly cooked, the sauces and capers are on point, and the broccolini is genuinely one of the best sides I’ve had anywhere - that char + acidity goes with everything. Even the simple stuff like fries and potatoes hit when they’re done right.

That’s why I’m leaving this review: lately I’ve had a stretch of 5-6 orders with small misses that didn’t used to happen - missing toppings, uneven pizzas, a pizza with a huge bubble, broccolini missing the lemon dressing, stuff like that. Not enough to stop ordering, but enough that it makes me stick to the “safe” items instead of exploring.

Still a big fan, still ordering regularly, just hoping the consistency snaps back to how it was because Wonder at its best is hard to beat.“

My friend had 2 vegetarian rolls, which both were delicious. “Had such a great experience at Zen Sushi Omakase. The entire 14-course omakase was paced perfectly, and you can really tell the chef adjusts the timing based on each table, which made the experience feel relaxed and thoughtful instead of rushed.

The progression of the meal was super well balanced. It started with lighter white fish like flounder and sea bream, then gradually moved into richer cuts like striped jack, isaki, and salmon before going full luxury mode with uni, caviar, wagyu, foie gras, otoro, and black truffle.

One of the most memorable bites was their layered wagyu + scallop + foie gras piece. Every layer added something different — rich wagyu fat, sweet scallop, then the creamy foie gras at the end. Definitely one of those “wow” bites you keep thinking about after dinner.

The wagyu toast with monkfish liver and caviar was also incredible. Crispy toast soaked with wagyu fat, creamy ankimo spread, and salty caviar on top created such a rich but balanced bite. It felt like a really fun NYC-style fusion omakase moment.

Another highlight was the lightly torched otoro with black truffle. The tuna completely melted in my mouth and the truffle aroma slowly opened up as you ate it.

I also loved the miso cod and caviar rice bowl at the end. The cod was buttery and smoky from the grill, the caviar added a perfect salty umami flavor, and the vinegared rice balanced everything surprisingly well. The uni on the side was super sweet and fresh with zero fishiness.

What really made the experience stand out was the atmosphere. The chef explained the fish and preparation throughout the meal, and the whole dinner felt interactive and fun rather than overly formal or intimidating like some traditional omakase spots.

For the price, this is honestly one of the best omakase experiences I’ve had in NYC. Definitely a hidden gem in LES and somewhere I would happily come back to.“

The sushi was outstanding: incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, and inventive without feeling forced or gimmicky. Having eaten sushi all over the world, I don't say this lightly—Kaki ranks among the most memorable experiences I've had.
The absolute highlight was the deep-fried eggshell stuffed with tuna and other carefully selected ingredients. It was pure perfection—one of those dishes you keep thinking about long after the meal is over. Every course showcased exceptional technique, creativity, and restraint.
They also have a solid sake selection, but it's great that they offer BYOB as well, giving guests plenty of options.
