“The students and staff of Casola absolutely nailed Italy part 1. The service and food was fantastic. Make sure to bring your wine (a very nominal $5 corkage fee) to enjoy with dinner. Remember everything being done here is practice to make perfection in real world dining, trust in the process, bring attention an issue if needed, and be patient and understanding in the chance something comes up (like a river flooding a parking lot). We've now enjoyed 2 wonderful dinner services here (with Shannon, A+) and look forward to hopefully catching more reservations in the future!“

“We made reservations by leaving a voice message, which we were called right back within an hour to confirm the reservation that we wanted and they were able to accommodate us. When we walked in, we were greeted by a very nice woman who brought us to our very comfortable booth, which we loved. Our server was Montana and I have to say she went above and beyond. Her service was top-notch and she should be recognized for that. She had a very bubbly personality, and she even sang me a birthday song. The food was extraordinary. The servings were absolutely huge. We were able to bring them home and put them in two Pyrex dishes that’s how much food there was. I feel like they gave us half a tray of eggplant. I mean it was a really big serving for everything I feel like that and itself having quality food and such a big quantity is really worth it, some places you pay these prices and you get very small portion where this was a whole next day dinner for our whole family. The only smallest thing we thought the breading for the eggplant and chicken parm was on the salty side but everything that didn’t have the breading was extraordinary. The tomato basil sauce was so good. The cavatelli was really good. Sauce was amazing. The bread was so fresh. I do think this is my favorite Italian restaurant in Rotterdam at this point.“

“Absolutely wonderful experience! I took 12 employees out to celebrate the holiday season and see a show in Albany. From the time we called for a reservation, right through dinner, the entire staff, and especially our server Casey were so welcoming and accommodating. The drinks, food, and service were all superb! Casey made us feel like we were the only thing that mattered in the restaurant, while the kitchen and bar handled some special requests with ease! In a world where the meaning of hospitality seems to have been forgotten by so many, this restaurant still knows what it means, and executes flawlessly. I highly recommend, and will definitely be back when in the Albany area. (I may even have to make a special trip back just for this restaurant!)“

“We had a joyous birthday celebration at my son’s favorite restaurant. Akanomi’s staff and sushi chefs, itamae, excelled at all endeavors. Vivan was spot on with her suggestions and service. She anticipated all of our needs, especially with our children. The chicken soba soup, tuna carpaccio and Hawaii Rolls were our favorites. Then the sashimi / sushi mixed roll party docked. “The food was delicious! It’s a casual sit-down eatery with a relaxed atmosphere. They don’t serve alcohol, which is worth knowing ahead of time.

We had the spicy dumplings and the spicy Mala beef noodle soup. The soup came with lightly cubed and fried tofu, tofu sheets, crunchy mushrooms, bean sprouts, lean and tender pieces of beef, and fresh ramen noodles in a very spicy, flavorful broth. The portion was generous—one bowl was big enough for two adults to share. The noodles tasted especially fresh and had just the right amount of chew.

The spicy dumplings were delicious as well. I even took some of the ramen noodles from the soup and dipped them into the spicy chili oil from the dumplings, which was very tasty.

For dessert, we tried the Portuguese custard tarts. They were OK, but I’d still recommend trying them. They’re not super sweet and lean a little more savory—think toasted, buttery croissant.

For two people, the bill came to about $48, including a can of Sprite, a can of seltzer, and tax. I tipped $20 on top of that. Service was pretty good overall.

The physical restaurant itself is extremely clean and very well maintained. I have been to just about every Diner and Cafe in Schenectady and Albany County, as well as other states. “Food here is pretty good. The sushi seems pretty fresh. And I love their Pad Thai here. One of my top places to get it from in the Capital District area. Their fried rice is pretty good too, taste like they made it of the hibachi. Huts different from the fried rice at other restaurants and take places.“
