“My boyfriend and I visited J. Alexander’s for the first time this Saturday evening. We had a reservation for 6 and were seated around 6:05, after checking in at 5:50. The young women at the hostess stand were extremely polite and friendly. The atmosphere inside the place is great. It’s quite dark, but I personally enjoy that. It was packed of course, being a Saturday night, but it didn’t feel claustrophobic. I think it’s cool that guests can look into the kitchen and see the cooks at work, although we were seated away from that section of the restaurant. After being seated, our waiter, Donny H., soon came by. He politely introduced himself and got us our drinks. My boyfriend and I are both pretty quiet people. Neither of us had questions about the menu and we had no requests for him throughout the meal. Even though he didn’t have much to work with, Don still did great with us!! Both of us enjoyed our food. I got the rotisserie chicken with smashed potatoes. For some reason, I didn’t realize it would come as a whole rotisserie chicken LOL. I kind of thought it would be cut up, but that’s definitely user error. The chicken was very tender and pretty easy to cut up on my own. While we were eating, I noticed that all of the wait staff seem to have excellent customer service skills. A few different waiters came by our table to clear plates, bring out our appetizer, etc. Every single one of them was as kind and gracious to as Don was, even though they weren’t getting tipped from us. I think that’s pretty rare to find. At the end of the service, Don even surprised us with carrot cake for free because it was our first time visiting. It was very kind of him. Maybe it’s just something he does to boost his tips, but hey, I respect the hustle!! And the carrot cake was dang good, even after taking it home and having it cold!! Overall a great experience. I’d definitely love to come back at some point even though it’s a bit of a drive for us.“

“Eclectic decor in a super cool old building that was the first building in Downtown Toledo to be wired for electricity! Wow we sent our compliments to the chef, everything was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. They have won awards for their original cocktails and the bartender did not disappoint. Excellent waitress who deserved every penny of her tip. We will be back!“

“Chef Erika Rapp never disappoints and every visit to this wonderful restaurant reaffirms it as my favorite place for our Anniversary dinner. I look forward to the coconut, chorizo and sweet potato steamed muscles that she has had on the fall menu consistently for the last 5 years. And being Gluten Free the care Chef Erika takes to offer many delicious options, means I can always find the perfect meal. Last night the fish dish was perfection, from the perfectly cooked cod, to the savory and slightly sweet delicata squash puree to the textural elements of the crisp broccolini and the crunch of the pomagranate and pepitas. And the dish paired wonderfully with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc. After enjoying a basket of gluten free pop-overs (another favorite treat) and appetizers I was stuffed, but the dish was too delicious to leave even one bite on the plate. Our server Miranda was fabulous. Attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and added so much to our dining experience. I highly reccommend.“

“This restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside, but we were so surprised by how delicious the food was! It was so good that we finished everything before taking any pictures. When we went there, it was super busy — almost every table was full! But the servers were very efficient, and the food came out quickly too. I will definitely come back again!“

“Hands down, my favorite restaurant ever. You just can't go wrong with a Big Boy, with tarter sauce on it, and a side of crispy fries. I have ordered the same thing every time since I was a kid. If I see a Big Boy while out doing things, I make it a point to stop in for a bite. They never disappoint. The service is always fast and friendly, and the prices are right!

“The only place in Toledo that since Covid stays open past 8pm! Businesses, and there workers nowadays are just plain weak! Not this place, these dudes are in beast mode all night and I for that I’d eat from a dumpster before I’d. spend a dime anywhere else!!! All I gotta say is they’re lightning fast and are the nicest people in the business or for that matter any place I’ve been! So folks, tip these guys no less than 50%.“

“Food was great, drinks are always on point, but a little under staffed. Alyssa is incredible maintaining both the bar side and the restaurant but that is just insane for one person to do all day. That woman deserves a RAISE for the way she handles it!! Nobody missed/not taken care of, everything made with a quickness, and everyone served with a smile.“

“Danny and Ruben are phenomenal! Awesome customer service, my food is always right and tastes great, friendly and always makes sure I have everything needed like plastic ware, napkins and condiments. They also always make sure the food is plated correctly for no spills or mess. I get my breakfast and sometimes lunch at the drive thru.
