“Revising to 5 stars on the kind assurance from the owners that the issue with the chips was indeed a one-off. Looking forward to my next order!
They changed the chips 😞. Please tell me this was a one-off and you've already gone back to the previous chips, which were always proper. These ones were obviously manufactured and cooked from frozen, with some sort of 'crispy coating' on them. Not entirely bad, but not right. Captain John has been our reliable go-to for years now, with consistently fresh tasting fish, crispy batter, and (until now) a generous portion of chips cut from fresh potatoes. Delivery is fast, the food is still piping hot on arrival, and it's packed in carboard and paper so everything stays crispy.... I might give one more try but if the chips are still the new and NOT improved ones, I'm not sure I'll continue ordering from here.“

“Fish lovers will love this restaurant as you can find many different styles of fish dishes there, such as spicy, stir fried, hot pot...etc. If you don't eat fish, they also offer beef/pork/noodles and rice I'm their menu. We ordered the lotus slice as the appetizer, it's surprisingly good, tiny bit of spicy and sour taste, very refreshing.“

Place was clean, staff plentiful and food good.
As other reviews state, portions are a bit smaller than usual, but so is the price. $17 for fish & chips is great!
Menu is simple. Not at all overwhelming.
Looking forward to trying/comparing the Danforth location soon.“

“One of those iconic fish and chips spots in Toronto. This spot has been around for a minute and for good reason.
The fish batter is a light golden colour as opposed to the deep golden colour. This makes it not as greasy which makes for a lighter bite.
That being said, the batter is still crisp and the fish is still flaky. The fries are also really good here.
Service was great. Super quick and once you order, they bring the food to your table.
Parking is tough in this lot since there’s so many spots to eat at and not enough spots for how many places there are. So will have to be patient waiting for a spot when it’s a full lot. As well, if you find a spot, don’t try for a better one, take the first one you see.

“A serviceable fish and chips place. It's small but you can usually find a table . It's not fancy but the fish and chips are very good . Also the prices are very good . I would definitely buy from here again . I would try to eat in so I can enjoy the hot fish and chips crispy as take out can get a bit soggy.“

“Hidden gem for some AMAZING fish and chips run by a mom and pop duo at Peanut Plaza for ages. It’s our go to place when we are craving some really good old fashioned fish and chips :)
We got the daily special fish and chips combo. It’s $11 with tax (see picture). A steal to find and definitely worth it since it will put you into a good food coma afterwards.
The daily special fish and chips combo comes with a good sized haddock fish, lots of crispy chips, choice of coleslaw or gravy, and a pop. The haddock is awesome. It’s nicely battered to make it crispy on the outside while maintaining that nice flaky fish goodness on the inside. Also, the gravy is a must. It goes so good with the crispy chips.
Heads up, limited seating. It’s more of a take out fish and chips shop.“

“As a Brit who hasn't been home for a little while I was craving some good old fish and chips. The cod and chips were pretty close to what I get back home, although not quite the same but the best I've had in Canada so far. Food taste and portions were great but the only negative was that I had to wait 25 minutes for it to be ready. Not sure how the UK churns them out so quickly but wait time here was the thing that let them down. That being said, it was worth the wait if you're craving fish and chips.“

“Last Sunday my friends and I was looking for a bar to go have a few drinks. We went to Cheers for the first time. Carmen the owner was so welcoming made us feel at home what a gem and legend she is. She is such a wonderful human being. She is not judgemental and makes the environment like you are coming to see mom. My friends and I will be back. Being in the industry its refreshing to feel comfortable. The locals was are amazing people. See you soon much love to all.“

“Halibut House in Thornhill has a very good atmosphere with a big, neat dining saloon that feels comfortable and inviting. The staff are welcoming and attentive, especially Rina, who showed great hospitality and made our visit pleasant.
We ordered Halibut and Cod dishes with fries.
The quality was good overall, but the Cod was a bit tasteless, and I’ve had more flavorful fish and chips in other restaurants. That said, the experience was enjoyable, and I might come back to try some of their other dishes.“

“This is our favourite fish and chips restaurant. The service is excellent and the food is always hot and delicious. They have some nice cold beer to go with your meal. Even if there is a line up, we have never waited longer than 15 minutes. Worth the wait.“
