“It's a coffee stand just 20 feet north of Queen Street. I tried the pulled pork empanada with a dark roast coffee.

The pastry was a crispy golden brown with a flavourful pulled pork filling. It was served with a pesto sauce. This Trinidadian empanada was the best I've ever tried! I will be returning to try out some other snacks. What a find!“

“Rhum Corner NEVER misses!!! I came here with my boyfriend for our anniversary, and as always, everything was perfect. We ordered the oxtail with rice and beans and the fried chicken with macaroni. Honestly, I can’t come to Rhum Corner without ordering the oxtail. It’s always so tender and so flavorful. I swear I could eat it every single day and never get tired of it. The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned and juicy, and the macaroni is just perfect.

And I have to mention the pikliz, I swear they need to start selling it on its own because I could eat it by the jar by itself. The perfect mix of heat, crunch, and tang I just love it so much lol

I also ordered the Painkiller, which was soo good. Sweet, creamy, and dangerously easy to drink.

“Amazing! My first time here. I loved the elevated Jamaican dishes because it still had that home taste but the preparation and presentation was on a next level. I love that there is a high end caribbean Jamaican place for everybody but also a safe place for we to 5 star dine without being treated badly or stared at( which happens in fancy places if you caribbean) i don't usually like fish but tried my friends snapper. The nuff nuff coleslaw was my fave and the likkle patties“

“So I’ve been trying to come up with the right words to explain the impeccable experience my husband and I had at this restaurant, words can’t do it justice. First impression as we walked in the door was how much it reminded me of back home islands vibes. The owner was present, attentive and overflowing with Caribbean hospitality. The Trini fusion dishes we tried were fantastic. This was such a treat and we loved every second of it. We left there needing to tell the world about the gem we had found. Thank you! “Nice ambiance, great food (salty for me). Service seems to be improved. The bathroom sink was blocked when I got I the restaurant. We ordered the appetizer, then nothing until everyone else in the restaurant got their food including those who came later than us. Called the waitress, the manager seemed to try to explain, but we all knew what happened. We don't need an explanation, we need an apology.“

“Ali's Roti is delicious well seasoned, not salty. I can taste the love in every bite. The only reason I have mixed reviews was because I ordered delivery and portion sizes. Knowing they wouldn't fill me up with shrimp for my shrimp dhal puri roti I bought a bag of shrimp last night and when the uber was close I threw them on the stove top and mixed the order in without the added shrimp I wouldn't have been disappointed with my three whole shrimp cut into pieces. That being said the shrimp were perfectly cooked from Ali's well seasoned and mixed up really nice with my added shrimp, the flavor of Ali's is incomparable with another roti shop downtown. I found my place from now on but the food was delivered cold. Probably not the restaurants fault. Secondly I ordered a lamb roti with sauce on the side, I did have to heat up on my stove top and was wanting my sauce on the side that never got packed up, also was missing my second pepper sauce that I ordered. But the lamb was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and the dhal puri roti was perfect. Minor issues but enough to make me rate it 4 out of 5.“

“Another hole in the wall hidden gem that makes Torontos low key food scene so great. The food is made with love and is actually a unique take on Jamaican food but in a good way. It stands out from other places that can be a little cookie cutter if you know what I mean. The patties are also on another level. Not sure we’re they’re getting them but they are amazing. “I finally was able to attend UMI's Kitchen after so many attempts by UBER and DoorDash as it always says unavailable. I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by. I thought it was located more east on Dundas but it's actually near Dundas and Sherbourne. Toronto has tried to revive the neighborhood but, it has the same energy. I was lucky as parking is street parking so expect to park and run in to get your order. It looked closed when I got out and the door is not new but, I got in. It isn't a big place but the lady who got my order was pleasant. I ordered a small Oxtail (not cheap no more), side bbq chicken, 1 veggie and 1 beef patty, small chicken soup (good), Pineapple soda. I thought the salad would be handled but no salad like no coleslaw! I was like wow. The food is good. I really enjoyed the veggie patty wish I had gotten three of them. The bbq chicken was nice. Not hot but, it was a great add to my Oxtail meal. I was glad I finally could say I gave this place a try. I am sure others will attend. The area isn't the most desired place to attend but, it's about the food which for this day was my goal.“

“The appetizers were excellent; the tuna and shrimp ceviche was fresh and well balanced, and the corn elote ribs were truly one of a kind. The mac and cheese was rich and soulful, but the cornbread really stole the show: incredibly moist, full of flavor, and perfectly complemented by the butter provided. The main dishes were above average overall. The jerk chicken was nicely presented and thoughtfully put together, though the chicken itself could have been more flavorful. The curry lamb, on the other hand, was very succulent and appetizing; however, the roti served with it was disappointing and fell short of expectations. Overall, a great experience with standout appetizers and sides, with some room for improvement on a few main elements.“

“I've been getting takeout from Mainsha Restaurant on Weston Rd for over a year. This place serves up some delicious Caribbean food with courteous service and congenial staff. The oxtail was the highlight – slightly sweet but bursting with rich flavour and tenderness. The jerk chicken was good, and the spicy beef patties had a perfectly flaky and crisp shell, filled generously. The casual cafeteria vibe of the restaurant wasn't the most inviting, but the food more than made up for it. Overall, a solid spot for great Caribbean dishes.“
