“Over 25 years ago I worked for a Trader Joe's in California. While basic operations have changed and slow-moving SKUs have been discontinued, the essence of TJ's remains the same: friendly staff, terrific niche food selections, good prices, and a sense of community. The Milwaukie store is my all-time favorite and I so enjoy browsing the shelves and engaging the staff in conversation. I hope the labor troubles are resolved because the employees have earned every shred of respect coming to them! “I think putting “Italian” in your name is a bit of a stretch. Leads people to believe that one would be able to find similar baked goods as a traditional Italian bakery, which would include more bread items alongside pastries. This place is more of a patisserie. The reason I say “Italian” is a stretch is bc Real Italian Tiramisu is steeped in tradition and is made using lady fingers, or Savoiardi, not sponge cake. At minimum, One should be able to purchase lady fingers from a true Italian bakery. The food is good and so is the coffee. At best, this place is an Italian inspired Patisserie, but don’t expect to walk into a real Italian bakery.“

“This is definitely an experience more than your everyday bakery stop. The options are somewhat limited and the price is slightly higher than other bakeries I go to. That being said when you see the pastries you understand why. They are beautiful works of art. There's a bit of savory to go with the sweet. The espresso I had was fantastic. The space is a bit narrow and indoor seating is limited (there's some outside tables as well). Overall it's worth the visit when you feel like treating yourself to something new.“

“I've been gluten and dairy free since 2021... not by choice. That's also the last time I had baked goods that actually tasted like they were supposed to. I tried several items from Gem Bakery including: cupcakes, chocolate cake, glazed donut, caramel brownie, chocolate cookie, and bagels. Oh my goodness, they were just how I remembered them tasting! Texture was spot-on, flavor was delicious, and I wouldn't have known the desserts were gluten and dairy free at all. There were no gritty or gummy textures in the wheat flour replacement and there wasn't an overwhelming coconut flavor where dairy was replaced. I hope to return to this basket every time we visit Portland!“

Nothing is gluten-free, but that said, the gluten is mostly limited to the super tiny sponge cake base. That means most of their desserts are edible for people who know how to operate a fork. Light, fluffy, very mousse-based

Nevaeh was absolutely amazing and so sweet, she genuinely had me in tears walking out. they were out of the only cookie we really were hoping for but she gave us a couple mini versions of the same cookie to make up for the inconvenience. we were totally taken aback by her kindness and i hope whoever is her manager takes the time to recognize her for being incredible and going above and beyond!!“

“Great little Chinese bakery! Their buns are huge, nice and soft with a good flavor. Fair amount of filling… prices are amazing! Most everything is $2 or less. I got a bbq pork bun, custard bun, and coconut tart. Pork bun was tasty, but could have used a little more filling… but it was only $1.60, custard bun was awesome… not too sweet, but I like it that way. Coconut tart was a little dry, but good flavor… it’s more like a dense coconut cupcake in a tart shell. Anyways, you can’t beat it for the price! I’ll definitely be coming back.“

“I mean, if you haven’t tried this place what are you even doing. Go early if you want the full selection because they sell out quickly. Try all the things because everything is delicious. I always get a raspberry rose cruffin for my dad because it’s his favorite, but I haven’t tried anything I didn’t like. Savory or sweet you really can’t go wrong, they even have small cakes if you aren’t in a pastry mood but the flaky layers are truly something to behold. Their flavor combos are divine and delicately sweet, highly recommend.“

“I've never taken the time to write a review for any business, but am pretty put off and have the time. Today is my husband's and my 11th wedding anniversary. We had Saint Cupcake at our wedding with a cupcake tower and wedding topper cake in 2011. To celebrate our 11 years of marriage, we went to go pick up cupcakes. Based on online information and the sign on the door, the business closes at 5pm on Saturdays. We arrived at 4:20PM - 40 minutes before closing. Both doors were shut and locked, but there were two employees inside and cupcakes on the back counters. They ignored us, even though I attempted to open each of the double doors - they wouldn't even look up. I knocked on the door and the woman sweeping reluctantly came and opened the door and told us that they had unfortunately closed early due to some issue. I tried to explain to her we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and had had Saint Cupcake at our wedding 11 years prior. She said they didn't have much of a selection left anyway and closed the door on us. It was a shocking and weird interaction and I was really put off. I will never go out of my way to give Saint Cupcake my business again in the future. 👎👎“

The moment I walked in, I was hit with THE most heavenly smell. You know that warm, cozy, life-is-good kind of aroma? Yeah, that. Fresh cinnamon rolls, hot focaccia, cookies just out of the oven, quiche, sandwiches… it was sensory overload in the best possible way. I genuinely wanted to buy one of everything. I ended up grabbing both focaccias — the rosemary sea salt (perfection) and their special mascarpone version — plus a ham & cheese quiche made with locally raised ham from Campfire Farms here in Oregon City. The fact that they source local ingredients whenever possible? Huge bonus. And let me just say… this focaccia might actually be the best thing I’ve ever tasted. Dipped it in olive oil, herbs, and a drizzle of caramelized onion balsamic and suddenly remembered that simple, high-quality food is pure magic. Inside, the space is ADORABLE — a beautiful mural, shelves filled with local goods, tea, and giftable goodies. It feels homey, creative, and genuinely cared for. Everything here is freshly baked DAILY, and they’re only open Thursday–Saturday, so plan ahead! They’re also taking Thanksgiving pie orders (and likely more holiday desserts), so if you want to impress your guests this season, place a preorder ASAP. Trust me. I’ve been missing Singer Hill Café ever since they closed, and finding a spot with this kind of warmth, quality, and genuinely kind people makes me SO happy. I’m already planning my next visit.
