Tonight, as always, fresh ingredients: perfectly crisp romaine in the Caesar salad with just the right amount of zesty dressing. Scrumptious fries on top of plump mussels in a lightly smoky broth. Beans and chorizo elevate that dish to a meal. The Cioppino is the go-to I look forward to. At a time when restaurants are following food trends and throwing anything out there, hoping it will stick, this tortoise vs the hare restaurant wins every time!“

“We were there for the first time on the evening of January 10, 2026. We sat at the bar for a bit because we were a little early for our reservation. Michelle brought us a couple of beers and we ordered a plate of six oysters. She chatted cheerfully with us while she busily poured drinks for others and then introduced us to her two sons and a son’s girlfriend, who all also work there. Everyone was so friendly and kind! When our table was ready, Michelle thanked us for being there and said that it was great to meet us. At our table, we ordered another half dozen oysters, a caesar salad, a couple more beers, and two big bowls of cioppino. Absolutely delicious with the large, thick slices of freshly-made garlic bread for dunking. This place is a true gem. Four generation of family working there and their love for the place and what they do shows. Can’t wait to go back!!“

“Love it! Wish I lived in Portland, so I could dine her more. Delicious food and incredible service. My son and I stopped in tonight at 8:40. Knowing they close at 9, I asked if they were still seating. The hostess cheerfully said, "yes!" We were promptly guided to a table, and our waiter Finn greeted us right away. He was great! I followed his recommendation for the Dover Sole parmesan, and it was so good I almost cried. My son loved his chicken bites and applesauce. We got tasty desserts to go. Also, I had the Sunset Sparkle non-alcoholic drink, and I hope I can somehow re-create it at home. So fun. yum!! Also, our bill was $36. What!? Such a good value.“

“Jake's Grill is located directly across the street from where my hotel was located, and I was wanting some beef on this particular night....Jake's did not dissapoint. I sat at the bar and was well taken care of by my server/bartender Manuel. I enjoyed some wine, the wedge salad and ribeye. While Jake's is not a place you're going to be dining when on a strict budget, it was worth every penny. The food was perfectly prepared, the environment was dark, warm and familiar, and the service was stellar. I would absolutely return to Jake's on my next trip to Portland and highlly recommend that you stop in for dinner, appetizers or just enjoy some wine at the bar in this old school top-level American steakhouse establishment.“

It came with potatoes and corn. We added eggs. The flavor on this food was delicious. It was the perfect amount of spice and cajuny taste. The atmosphere was clean. The server was attentive. Our food took about 5-10min to come out. Not long at all. No wait times. There is also a hand washing station near the booths. I love this because of the easy clean up. Very convenient!
