“Anyone can seemingly make sushi seem better by making it more complex, but the real test is whether they can take the simple and make it excellent. Sushi-Ki-ichi does just that. They stick to the simple offerings, leading to an experience that feels less Americanized than other Japanese restaurants. That's not to say I don't love some level of creativity, but you don't need it here. That's because the family that owns Sushi Ki-ichi wants to create an authentic meal - a notion that was confirmed for sure when we had a conversation with the owner. In fact, they take quality to the next level with their equipment and efforts they take to make sure that what they serve is the highest quality, including specific freezers for the fish. We didn't try Sushi Ki-ichi for the first couple of years because we figured that the previous restaurant, a Chinese buffet that had gone downhill and fallen off the cliff, had rebranded and reopened as something new. Now I feel that for those first couple of years, we missed out. This has quickly become my favorite place in Portland. I look forward to any trips I take across town from Vancouver to Tigard, and make a point to stop in and grab a bite.“

“Went here on a whim with a colleague and the atmosphere is gorgeous and refined but has a taste of izakaya to it! The food was absolutely delicious! I had the shrimp tempura maki and the wagyu (from Hokkaido, not American wagyu) nigiri and it was perfect! My colleague had the sashimi bento and bao bun. She fell in love with the bao bun and miso soup that came with the bento. Staff are super nice, attentive, and ready to answer any questions about the menu. I will definitely be back!“

“I saw the negative reviews and was dismayed. BUT when we got there and saw the amount of people who were enjoying themselves. This amount of people would not have been and I was heartened by this. First off the service people. When we asked they were prompt. The sushi filled me up. The variety was astounding. I tried most of their different prepared vegetables dishes. Beef dishes as well. My wife ate her fill of various shellfish and other different kinds of seafood. The little dishes of ice cream was a nice touch for desert. It has a bit of everything for everybody. I highly recommend this restaurant. This is our favorite restaurant. Easy to find. Easy to get to. Lots of parking room.“

“This place is special. We had a piece of bluefin that was shear perfection. Also, a deep friend scallop was incredible. Everything was great. The only thing is the tasting menu isn’t a ton of food, I wouldn’t go too hungry. Or if you’re still hungry you can order more after the tasting menu.“

“This hands down is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland OR. It the same quality of other top spots in the US like Nobu , O-Ya , and Morimoto . The location is perfect located in the Pearl district. The chefs are high quality and the fish is extremely fresh. They have a great but simple flavor approach. The service is warm, helpful, and appreciative. I always ask for Joy as she is a true professional and loves providing an exceptional experience on every visit.“

“Couldn’t have picked a better place to celebrate! Our only complaint is that we can’t bring Koya back home with us. This place is so cozy and when you walk in you feel like you are part of the family. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Every single roll that came out was prettier than the next. We could have ate the entire menu and I don’t think there would have been one roll we would have been disappointed with. We got 12 rolls and I couldn’t take the pictures fast enough because the sushi was too fresh and begged to be eaten. Thank you Koya for making a special day even better. When in Beaverton do yourself a favor and support this humble but mighty establishment!“

The traditional Japanese design aesthetic includes a sushi bar and table seating in a comfortable ambience perfect for quiet dining for individuals and groups. Service is attentive and prompt. The Chirashi Bowl is my favorite because fresh lemon, wasabi and shoyu sauce highlight the assorted sashimi and rice. As in Japanese cuisine, where it’s believed to have digestive benefits, a small vibrantly-colored Dendrobium orchid blossom is an edible, delicately-flavored garnish on each dish. 🌸“

My only disappointment has been the ramen: the broth is mediocre and the noodles are not fresh.“

“Joy Poke is one of my favorite places to eat. The ingredients are consistently fresh and high quality, and I appreciate how clean and well-maintained everything is. There are so many choices, so it’s easy to create a bowl that suits your taste. The poke bowls are fantastic, and the Spam musubi is surprisingly delicious! “We love this place! We eat here regularly, and truly enjoy the food, cocktails, service, and ambiance. The black cod miso yaki is our favorite dish - it's delicious and I highly recommend it. The veggie and shrimp tempura is the best I've ever had, with an interesting mix of eggplant, mushrooms, squash, lotus root, and onions - all lightly battered and served with a delightful dipping sauce (pour the dipping sauce on the black cod, it's so good). The cocktails, especially the Japanese 75 and the shiso gin drink (I can't think of the name), are well-balanced and mixed properly, and are very yummy. I tell everyone I know to try this place! Some of the food can seem adventurous if you're not familiar with Japanese fare, but it's all delicious and beautifully presented. Finally, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the owner is a very sweet and funny lady. All around, Sushi Kuni is a great dining experience and I highly recommend checking it out.“

“My tofu hibachi was incredible!! It came steaming hot, which I love. The veggies still had firmness, the tofu was delicate (not what I'm used to, but so good!). The rice is very high quality sushi rice. The sauce is well balanced mix of tangy, sweet, and salty; but not overpowering.
Try this affordable dish or something else from this place. It will not disappoint you!!“

My fiance and I drove to Portland for the day and made the last minute decision to try out a sushi place. Hana Sushi and Izakaya Pearl turned out to be a lovely surprise.

Food was quick and fun as it was distributed on a conveyor belt. We did also order from the menu (a fried tuna roll) which was also fantastic.

For drinks we got the Vietnamese Iced Coffee, one with brown sugar pearls, coconut milk and Oreos and the other with just oat milk and Oreos. The drink customization was an awesome surprise--definitely order a drink from them as it will not disappoint!

We will definitely come again if we are ever in the Portland area.“

“This is a food cart in a pod downtown. There are no tables. For those who don’t expect that it could be off putting. Having said that, get this food and take it somewhere cozy and dig in! Over the years I have had the pleasure of multiple omakase nights and they always delivery different dishes that truly change how I view sushi as a whole. My wife and I had our first date here two years ago, and just came back for our first date as a married couple and we love having a special place to slow down, enjoy each other and eat mouthwatering food to mark beautiful moments in our lives. “Great Sake menu, excellent nigiri omakase. Experience is much closer to a an authentic Japanese sushi experience than an American sushi roll place. The only downside is that the wasabi does not compare which is a tragedy that cannot be attributed to the restaurant. 10/10 will be returning here every time I'm in Portland“
