“Oldest running tavern in the US with fine dining options. We absolutely loved the history and ambiance of the place. The restaurant is multi story which I’m assuming has to do with being in the NE, but we had a private room to ourselves. We got the duck scotch egg, grand sampler, and beef Wellington. All were so good. We’ve even tried the beef Wellington at Gordon Ramsays restaurants and I’ll say this was even better!! The waitress was so kind and attentive even bringing out an extra plate to our nephew who came with us.“

“My fiancé and I stopped here on a Friday night for the first time. We had tried a handful of other bars in Newport that were all packed but when we walked into Bar 12 it was almost empty. I ordered the Secret Garden cocktail and was so impressed with the presentation! It tasted as good as it looked too! I stopped by again this past Friday with four of my friends and tried the lemon meringue drink this time. It was amazing- super sweet and tasted just like a lemon bar! The prices are really reasonable for the quality of the cocktails and the location. The atmosphere is perfect for a date night or small groups, the bathroom was super clean, and overall I’m just really shocked it wasn’t more crowded both times I went!“

“We came in Sunday evening for a small dinner and dessert and sat at the bar. The bartender was attentive and filled our drinks quickly. It was pretty empty when we got there but packed when we left. The food was AMAZING. We shared the short rib special and it was so good! For dessert we had the chocolate mousse and bread pudding which were also sooooo good! The restaurant itself was beautiful. Prices were reasonable. Would definitely dine here again!“

“I enjoyed a perfect bowl of oatmeal, fresh fruit, and muffin on three mornings. They left us with two full pots of coffee, one decaf, for us to draw from as needed. The large windows and morning sunshine were nice. Friendly wait staff.

“We had our rehearsal dinner and welcome party here a couple of weeks ago, everything was just perfect! We offered steak or halibut - both got terrific reviews from our guests. We had several passed hor d’oeuvres - all were great and they offer many unique choices. Our event host was Sevrina - her attention to detail, flexibility, and guidance was the best! She did everything she could to make this a magical night for all, highly recommend!
Dietary restrictions: They accommodated all of our dietary needs
Wheelchair accessibility: One guest was in a wheelchair- no problem accessing venue and elevators took them to the rest room one floor up“

“We’ve had a couple meals at the Helmway and they were delicious! The calamari is crispy and done just right, the harvest salad is excellent! The scallops were done to perfection…sweet and tender. The lobster risotto is excellent too! We had the cinnamon toast bread pudding…just wow!! The wine selection is just right! We’ll definitely go back and highly recommend the Helmway!! I couldn’t find a place to give it stars, but I would definitely give it 5 out of 5!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“
