“Yes. The gravy is dark. And soooo good! Glad I gave this place a try. Will definitely return. We pulled up right at opening and there were already several people ahead of us. Obviously has a strong local following. We tried smothered chops, hamburger steak, and beef tips. The kids immediately liked it. Parking was easy, staff was friendly and fast. The cabbage was already flavored. No hot sauce needed. Mac n cheese, sweet yams, cabbage, cornbread and taters and gravy were all on point in large servings. And the tea is just right. “I have multiple food allergies that can de nerve wracking trying to eat somewhere new. We were staying at the hotel next to this restaurant, and I was tired from being on the road most of the day. I called over and spoke with a manager to see if they would be able to accommodate my many allergies. And I was presently surprised to find out I would have a variety of options, this is rare for me.So we walked over to the restaurant a few hours later. The manager I spoke to on the phone told me to let my waitress know that I needed to talk to him to order. Well Adriana, the manager, was delighted to help prepare me a meal that I wanted and double and triple checked ingredients to make sure it would be safe.My meal was really yummy and safe! And my partners meal looked and smelled amazing even if I couldn't eat it.We had the fried mozzarella balls to start, and then I had the chicken & shrimp combo with broccoli. My partner had the meatball parmesan sub with fries.My allergies all fall outside the top 9. They are corn, coconut, honey, tomato, onion, mint, ginger, and cinnamon.Our waitress was attentive as well.Dietary restrictions: Very good about handling food allergies.“

“Never paid much attention to Katherine and Company until we stopped there for a business lunch. Their menu has a large selection of sandwiches as well as a few plate lunches. The sandwich I ordered was delicious and well put together. Service was acceptable, although they do not have servers that visit your table. Orders are placed at the counter, and your name is called when ready. Overall, it was a great experience, and I plan to return.“

“This place is truly such a wonderful, fun place to be! Eileen is an amazing server and bartender; she is so kind and thoughtful, and hilarious at that. The food is so good every time I go, and the drinks are really nice and strong - in a completely legal way lol - so I definitely get my fill every time. All the girls there are beautiful and kind. “One word to describe the first bite. WOW! The oxtails were absolutely delicious. Never had anything like it. The macaroni was really good it was a lot of different flavors in it that I wasn’t expecting. The cabbage was amazing and the cornbread was sweet like cake. “We recently traveled to Beaumont and dined for the first time at J. Wilson's on Saturday, 23 March 2024. The website really gave the impression that reservations were highly encouraged, so I set our reservations about 3 weeks ahead of our trip to Beaumont. My first impression of the outside of the restaurant was… slightly disappointed. The exterior is simply a metal building that is painted a gaudy green color. However, the interior is not at all what you might expect – in a very good way! The restaurant is very nice, warm, and quite inviting. It is definitely an example of not judging a place based on the appearance.We were wrapped up in activities when we realized the time and ran to J Wilson's for our reservation at 7:00. There wasn’t a line when we arrived and I will admit to being a bit put-off when we were told that there would be a 10-15 minute wait, despite having made reservations. I get it that things happen, but we altered what we were doing with a family visit to arrive on time to our agreed upon reservation time. I would have loved an additional 10-15 minutes with family, but I did not want to be late for the reservation.That said, both bartenders immediately began improving our experience – I wish we got their names. We were eventually seated in Ava’s section and she was such a delight! It really is due to Ava’s wonderful service that ensured we had a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. She was friendly, helpful, and seemed to be happy to be there. Truly a joy!Here's what we did not care for – cutting short personal plans to arrive on time for reservations and then having to wait once we arrived. The crab cake “Starter” was really a deep-fried breading cake with MAYBE a splashed flavor of crab. It is in no way, shape, or form a lump crab cake, as indicated on the menu. I truly don’t think we had a single lump of crab between either cake. (The Boudain Balls are on point, though!) We ordered steak, but only one side comes with the entrée… you are most likely going to purchase a second $6 side (on top of the $38 steak). They do offer salads that are described like they’d be very good, but the menu makes them seem like they are intended as a meal.If we find ourselves in Beaumont, we’ll definitely return… though it is unlikely that we’ll bother with reservations in the future.“
