“Nice chill spot to kick it“

“We really enjoyed this place from the atmosphere to the food and the service as well. The options were different and wonderful to experience something different! Next time, will have to get some meat to go. The only reason I did not give a full 5 stars was because my husband wanted some coke or Dr. Pepper but only serve root beer here due to trying to stay local so it was understandable but missed. I still want to try that huge serving of ribs though yumm looked amazing!“

“I highly, HIGHLY recommend this place. Everything was so good.

First off, there’s plenty of parking in front and to the side of the restaurant (although the side parking may be for the liquor store next door). The spots are wide and could accommodate the huge SUV we rented.

Our waitress, Selin, was superb. She was attentive and remembered our entire order, without needing to write anything down!

We were a party of 4 with 3 dogs. We made a reservation for the patio because we had our dogs with us. We were seated at a corner table on the patio, which gave our dogs more space to roam while leashed and tethered to us.

It was pretty hot and humid outside (we came here on November 7, 2024 at 1PM). There were lots of flies and mosquitos around. Thankfully, halfway through the meal, the waitress put out a mini fan on our table to keep the insects away from our food.

For appetizers, we got:
Striped Bass Crudo - the fish was fresh and flavor was great. A bit too tart for my liking, but still very good. My partner said this was the best, but he usually really likes very sour and tart foods.
Burrata - very delicious. Had the right amount of sweetness from the glaze and great textural contrast with the nuts.
Deviled Eggs - my favorite appetizer! The truffles really put this dish up there. Usually I find truffles gimmicky, but they worked really well here.
Potato Chips (with cheese) - my least favorite appetizer. The chips were good but the dip tasted too much like cottage cheese for my liking.
Fried Shrimp - this was SO GOOD! The shrimp were huge and cooked well. Not too much breading either. The accompanying sauce was good too.

For our mains, we got:
Fried Chicken Sammie - this was really good. The chicken was very crispy and moist and tender on the inside. The slaw on it wasn’t overpowering. And the accompanying sauce was good.
Steak Sammie - I did not get to try this, but my friend said it was ok.
Farro Bowl - This was the best dish we got. The salmon was perfectly cooked: flaky with a crispy skin. The faro was also a good textural and flavor contrast.
Plancha Burger (protein style, buns on side) - At first, this looked mid (you can see in my photos). But, when I dug into the patty, the meat had such a good texture to it. And the flavor was amazing! I could tell that it wasn’t just a regular old frozen patty from the grocery store. The pickles and onions were also subtly tart and sweet, which I really liked.

Our friend originally booked a brunch reservation here so she could try the birthday cake dessert, but the waitress said that’s only served during dinner. We didn’t blame her because they close up at 2PM for brunch, and it was already 2:15PM by the time we finished our entrees and asked about dessert. However, our waitress was so amazing!! She asked the chef and they said they could prepare the dessert for us because it was my partner’s birthday. So, she brought it out with lit candles and added it to our bill (she gave us a new one because she already printed out our bill).

The price was fair for what you’re getting. Things ranged from $12-$22.

Overall, the food was phenomenal and the service was amazing. I highly recommend coming here when you’re in Austin!

“Great place to eat. Prime rib was great and the whipped potatoes were to die for. Mocktail was good, too! Jamie was very attentive and maintained a professional presence while being personable and assured I was comfortable and taken care of throughout the meal.“

“We visited "STELLA SAN JAC" during our Austin trip... and we had a great time. We tried several of the best and most inspiring cocktails we've ever tasted. Manager Edwin put us at ease with the best comfortable service, and every cocktail he recommended we were very impressed with. I will definitely recommend my friends to visit this place, I want to go back and try the cocktail again on my next business trip.“

“Absolutely an amazing place! Food and drink are incredible. Duck Fat Fries and Bone Marrow are my favorites for starters. We have been coming here for years. Please support this business during the COVID pandemic. It would be terrible to see this place not make it.

Updating this review in November 2024. The place is still amazing! But had to remove a star for the parking situation. They use a service that requires you to scan a QR code and either pay for parking or get 3 hours free. It is NOT evident that you need to do this and none of the staff mentioned it. A couple weeks later, I got a fine letter. I ended up having to pay "Parking Revenue Recovery Services" a total of a $99 fine. I wish someone at the Salty Sow informed me of this. I would have rather spent that money at the restaurant the next time I visited. Y'all should change this process with your parking vendor.“

“It was my birthday. I chose the lettuce salad, sausage and kale salad, and orange sherbet with champagne. Everything was delightful with new twists that made my birthday celebration perfect. The champagne poured over my sherbet made a special experience. Thanks for a fun birthday.“

“After ogling over Murray's food pics on insta for what seems like over a year, I finally decided to take my steak lovin' hubs here for a birthday surprise dinner.

First must I say the ambiance was job well done. You first walk in like... oh nice, what a clean tavern. Few steps further into the dining area and you're like... whoa who would have thought you you could class up a tavern?! Like a gamesman sporty classy if that makes any sense.

Steak Frites Night was the reason we came but let me tell you the other dishes rose to the occasion. The hubs upgraded to the prime rib which does also upgrade price, but every bite was still worth it.

The portions for the prime rib and pasta were quite generous. With 2 younger kiddos, myself, and husband, we still had leftovers to go home.

Speaking of having kiddos at a tavern you ask? We went at early dinner time so I feel like it was still conducive to a family vibe.

“Got in after a couple of flights. I was met by very courteous staff and led to clean comfortable seating. Geneva was my exceptional waitress. She was knowledgeable, kind, and cordial. I am glad I stopped here. Will certainly visit again when I am in town.

I ordered the fish tacos and crab hush puppies. They were quite tasty!“

“A true Austin experience and the best staff, in total, that I have encountered in a long time. The staff and the retro setting set a really unique vibe in the restaurant. Food was very good with the spanish octopus and the rib eye being the highlights. Good, well selected wine list (even if markup is a little high) and a great bar program (Secret Beach on tap at a restaurant....thought I was dreaming).

Chelsea (Manager) was patient with my indoor / outdoor table change requests, despite being a very busy night. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive but not disruptive, and just plain cool....in fact I would say that about all of the serving staff.

Overall one of my best fine dining experiences in Austin. BTW, the outside patio is perfect.“

“We were visiting Austin today and decided to try this place for a healthy lunch. Everyone loved everything that they ate! It was all very flavorful without being salty or greasy. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting a healthy but tasty meal. Also worth noting they do serve meat, I thought they were vegan… but was pleasantly surprised by they other proteins being offered. We got the Mediterranean kabobs, ginger miso salad, some kind of Chinese type noodle bowl, and a kids meal with chicken , corn quinoa, mashed potatoes… all delicious!“

“Had a wonderful experience at Arlo Grey. We had the oyster mushrooms, burrata, cappelletti, hen and swordfish. It’s family style so we picked a few different dishes. The desserts we got were the sourdough ice cream and banana pudding. Personally the desserts were my favorite! The food was all delicious, seasonal, local, beautiful, seasoned well and large portions. I purchased Kristen Kish’s cookbook. While there she came to our table to meet us and sign my book. She was lovely! Great night and I can’t wait to go back. The service was top notch too.“

Got the “Steak and Zab” and the “Keto Fried Chicken” – both with veggies. Seems I read that they are adding a ricotta cheese sauce to some items and it IS Really tasty. Hits the spot. “Tonight we dined at Maie Day and Josh was an exceptional server from start to finish! It was our first time at the restaurant and he walked us through everything on how to order and when. Our cups and plates never went empty and he had fabulous recommendations. He went above and beyond with my 2 year old nephew. My nephew stayed well-behaved for 2.5 hours so we could all enjoy ourselves thanks to the bowls of ice Josh would bring periodically for him to chomp on. Everyone left happy and full of phenomenal food and drink. We are still blown away that we could dine for over 2.5 hours with a 2 year old with no problems. We are ready to recommend Maie Day to all of our friends - I hope they have Josh as their server when they go!“

“I had dinner here last night, one of my best experiences dining experiences in Austin. I didn’t know this ahead of time, but they offer a prefix menu for $45 that includes a starter, an entrée and a dessert. I came there for the New York strip, which I had last year, that was part of the prefix menu with a $10 supplement. I had the crab duo for an appetizer a date had the wedge salad. We both had New York strips and desserts. Everything was cooked perfectly, presented beautifully and everything was very tasty. Zero complaints on any part of our dining experience. Looking over the menu, there were many options that were equally as appealing as what we picked, I would definitely make this A regular dinner stop for me. Probably the best value, high-quality dinner in Austin.
