“We would come back here just to be served by Alvin! He was amazing bartender and host. He was very knowledgeable regarding food and drinks. LOVE HIM! We only had four oysters each, a bottle of wine and a martini that we wanted to split an Alvin was kind enough to split the martini and two small glasses for us! It was our first time there and we will definitely return.“

“My husband and I are in Houston for his cancer treatment at MD Anderson. Needless to say, not a trip for fun, but it’s his birthday today, and we wanted to get out of the hotel at the hospital and celebrate just a little. Because he has stage 4 stomach cancer, his dietary needs are limiting, so eating out can be difficult. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. This being our first trip to Houston, we know little about the area, and our cab driver helped us decide on Navy Blue. Well, can I just tell you, they were soooooo accommodating of our needs!!! The chef went out of his way to prepare some special items for us, so my husband could eat. Though his portion size is limited, he thoroughly enjoyed his food, as did I. I ordered a small appetizer of baked in butter Prince Edward Island oysters, simply prepared, and oh so delicious. My husband loves oysters, but they haven’t loved him since he’s been sick. He even had one, and enjoyed it. My husband also loved the cheddar biscuits, and seaweed butter, I couldn’t believe he was able to eat the whole biscuit. They have a simply prepared section in their menu, and you can order your seafood pan seared in olive oil with simple seasonings. This was great for his situation, and he had beautiful pink juicy gulf shrimp. I had the Dover sole, and it was perfectly prepared and boned tableside. Gorgeous presentation, and the fish was absolutely delicious. I ordered the sautéed spinach, and he the creamed potatoes. We shared those, and both were delicious. All the staff were well trained in service and they were super attentive. Our server was magnificent. Thank you Navy Blue for showing us a lovely night out, in an otherwise difficult time. We highly recommend your restaurant to anyone in the Houston area looking for fabulous food, fabulous service, and exquisite attention to detail. This place is wonderful!!!“

“We had an amazing experience at Balboa! Starting with the complimentary valet, which was quick and friendly service. The entry to the restaurant was super nice and a great photo opportunity spot. Kyrah took excellent care of us during our visit, and we loved the team style service. It felt like we had a team serving us, and they are so quick and quiet that you can continue to hold conversations and visit but someone is always near if you need anything. Kyrah took special care to "refresh" our cocktail glasses when we finished about half of our drinks, and made excellent recommendations. The food was absolutely amazing. Our table tried the fried shrimp, oysters, spicy ahi tuna roll, crab cake, Post Oak ribeye with pureed potatoes, salmon with the most delicious and unique salad, and heirloom tomatoes. The cocktails were delicious, including the Gold Rush, Rum Dum, and el Guero. The restaurant vibe is romantic but fun and sophisticated and has an open kitchen concept where you can see the food being made if you care to watch. I will most definitely be back and can confidently recommend this place to anyone!“

“I was running some errands in the area and went to this location for a meal. I ordered the fried oysters and fries in which it comes with that in addition to a couple of slices of bread. I am definitely an oyster girly and enjoy eating them fried, raw, bro, and any other way. The fried oysters were absolutely delicious and it had a very nice crunch to them.“

“Tucked away in Alief, where Houston’s Chinatown has grown into one of the city’s richest food destinations, you can find some of the most comforting and authentic dishes outside of Vietnam. Alief has long been known as a hub of cultural diversity, where restaurants aren’t just businesses—they’re extensions of family kitchens and traditions carried across oceans. From Cantonese barbecue shops to Vietnamese noodle houses, this neighborhood has shaped Houston’s reputation as a food city.
Quan Ba Ky is one of those gems. I came specifically to try their Bún Suông, a specialty noodle soup you don’t see everywhere. The broth is light yet deeply flavorful, with just the right balance of savory and sweet. The star, of course, is the shrimp paste “suông,” shaped into tender little patties that hold a delicate bite. Paired with rice vermicelli, herbs, and crisp vegetables, the soup feels both refreshing and comforting—perfect for Houston’s unpredictable weather.
What makes this bowl stand out isn’t just the taste, but also how it connects to the wider story of food in Alief. Dishes like Bún Suông remind me that Chinatown isn’t only about dim sum or pho—it’s a crossroads of flavors, histories, and immigrant experiences that have come together to create something uniquely Houston. I’m proud to live in the heart of it, surrounded by so much culture and incredible food.
If you’re looking for something beyond the usual bowls of pho, Bún Suông at Quan Ba Ky is absolutely worth the visit.“

“Dinner was amazing. We live on the east coast. By far one of the best crab-cakes I’ve had. Very flavorful. My husband had the NY strip steak. Cooked to perfection. Our server Kelly S., friendly and gave great recommendations. The pecan pie was incredible. Flaky crust, not to sweet. Served with ice cream and berries. Absolutely delicious. Thank you Granger’s for a wonderful dining experience on our first trip to Houston. We will be back.“

“My husband and I have been loyal patrons of Goode Company Seafood for years and have always enjoyed our dining experiences. Shelley, our longtime waitress, has been an integral part of those visits. She was always warm, welcoming, and attentive, knowing exactly what we liked. We were saddened to learn that she was recently let go. While we don’t know the reasons behind this decision, her absence has certainly been felt, and our dining experience hasn’t been the same without her. We truly miss her and hope she may return someday, as she brought something special to every visit.“

“I had the captain's gumbo and it was awesome! I would highly recommend. I expected to have too big of a portion and have to stop early but I couldn't stop and I wiped the bowl clean with the garlic bread side. I may be a bit bloated, but it was soo worth it!“

“I’m not sure that I could recommend this place. The food was good, however I was with my 5yr old daughter and really felt like we were rushed. I understand we can’t possible order up a tab that much but we surely didn’t deserve to feel rushed. We split a salad and the meatballs. The main dish came out literally 2 mins after receiving the salad. I don’t know about this place. Slow it down.“

“IYKYK
This place is great for seafood. Atmosphere consists of hard working people enjoying an adult beverage along with their food. Self seating. No servers per say. They work as a team. If you can’t get a seat at the bar, you will sit facing the glass. However you just place your order across the bar and customers. Food is always good. I had catfish and shrimp with fries. I also had gumbo. This is a no frills restaurant but food is pleasantly good and good portion. I haven’t managed to have an adult beverage as I only have gone during lunch. But they look good and everyone is day drinking when you come for lunch.“

“When we get the chance to visit Willie G’s we always jump at the opportunity. For years we have lived here in Houston and Willy G’s has always been a favorite. It’s that way because they have great food and great people. We often get our food to go and it’s always a snap with Hermando. He embodies the entire spirit of Willy G’s. He is an amazing asset to the restaurant and he has always been a joy to deal with. If you get the chance you have to eat here, but you do absolutely have to get one of there blueberry cheesecakes it is the perfect ending to any visit you make at Willy G’s. Thanks Hermando and Tanks Willy G’s.“

“The place is beautiful. I appreciate that they enforce the dress code, which is what I like to see in a restaurant like this. Every staff member was so nice. Our particular servers in the smaller dining area, were great. Very knowledgeable about the menu and offerings. The bartenders deserve recognition as well for the fast and friendly service. I regret that i haven’t tried this restaurant before but i will definitely be back.“

“This was our first visit, so my review is based on very limited experience. The bread service at the beginning is a fantastic selection including two each of hot seeded rolls right out of the oven, slices of sourdough, and a few of the best sesame seeded breadsticks in town. The endive salad was large and exceptionally good. The pastas are all made in house. My wife's veal parmesan was well made, comparable to the best versions in town. I had the King crab with squid ink spaghetti, Nduja, cherry tomatoes, and corn. It was good, but there was a bit too much going on in this dish. Nduja is great on a pizza, but over-powered the King crab. The squid-ink pasta was hidden by the tomato/nduja sauce. There was one medium size piece of King crab. If they want to feature the crab and black pasta then I think they would do better with a less complex and aggressive combination of elements: perhaps, a light sauce of garlic, olive oil, and parsley with a touch of saffron cream. The wine list included a good selection of wines from California, France, Italy, and Spain. We had a nice Priorat which is not that common to find on Houston wine lists. It was excellent at a reasonable price. Our waitress, Kimberly, was exceptionally good. She knows her menu very well and struck the right balance between attention and leaving us alone. She gave us a complimentary slice of olive oil cake, which I had heard about but never had before. It is a light and pleasant way to end a meal. Thank you Kimberly. Overall, it is a nice, quiet, somewhat dark, restaurant with a good wine list at reasonable prices. I like any place that makes fresh pasta. Next time I will try a more traditional or subdued dish like the Bolognese or gnocchi, or perhaps Branzino.“

“We had an absolutely incredible experience at Eddie V's! From the moment we walked in, we felt like true VIPs. Our server, Nick, was beyond attentive—warm, professional, and made sure every detail of our dinner was perfect. He had the best recommendations and made the evening flow so smoothly. A huge thank you also goes to Jeremy, the GM, and Karla, the manager. Both of them went out of their way to make our family dinner feel so special. Their hospitality and genuine care created such an elegant and welcoming atmosphere. It's rare to see a leadership team so engaged in making sure every guest feels valued, and it really stood out. This was one of those memorable nights where everything just clicked—the service, the ambiance, and the people. Eddie V's is always excellent, but this team took it to another level. We will definitely be back!“
