“This place is the best!!! Ask for LEO when you arrive, he is so kind, friendly and helpful! We tried the regular wings, bbq wings, yams and Mac and cheese, they are THE BOMBBBB!! Highly recommend, they’re located on Georgia avenue across from the campus and apartments, up the stairs! Give it a try!!!“

“Went on a Saturday night after deciding we didn’t want to wait in line at the Pizza place around the corner. We had no idea what to expect but it looked interesting so gave it a shot and we’re very surprised to find three restaurants in one (Burgers, Mexican-Ethiopian fusion, and Soul chicken) I was originally to try the soul chicken, but I changed my mind and tried the Mex-Ethiopian fusion since I’m Mexican and my husband got a burger and fries. Well, I was very pleasantly surprised with my unique tacos and guac, and the burger was crazy filling. Those fries were pretty good too. Now I’m excited to go back and try the soul chicken too.
The service was also welcoming, music good, volume perfect, and food came out quite fast.“

“Listen up, Johnny Ray’s chefs—you’re the unsung heroes of soul food, turning takeout into a flavor explosion that deserves its own holiday! Those sticky wings? Crispy-crusted miracles slathered in sauce so addictive, I nearly proposed to the box. Steak n cheese was a cheesy, meaty beast that fought back with every bite (in the best way), paired with crinkle fries tougher than my gym resolve.
Meatloaf under that gravy blanket? Grandma-level comfort with a chef’s swagger. And the sides—sweet potatoes so candied they sweet-talked my sweet tooth, mac ‘n cheese with a garlic zing that danced the electric slide on my tongue, collards so smoky and tender they hugged my soul. Hospitality wizards! Packed like royalty, portions for a feast, service so warm it melted my heart faster than that cheese. Chefs, y’all didn’t cook—you conjured joy. Eternal 5-stars, already plotting my encore!“

“Some of the best soul food that you can get, I am a Native Chicagoan that relocated to D.C. from Mississippi. I wish I would have visited this place when I first relocated. I visit 3 times a week (yes 3 times a week).“

“I had the pleasure of dining at The Hitching Post DC. I ordered the grilled lamb chops, mac & cheese, collard greens. The lamb chops are in my top 2 of the best I've ever tasted. I don't normally order mac & cheese when I go out to a restaurant, but this order was perfect as well. The collard greens could use a little vinegar, however, they were still delicious. I will definitely dine there in the near future. The lemon cake had was flavorful, moist and delicious, too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“

“This was a fabulous find. Being the Southern inspired menu, we opted for the fried green tomato appetizer, panko breaded deviled eggs were an unexpected and unusual offering that was phenomenally delicious. We also enjoyed their cajun pasta to round out the meal. We had courteous service from staff that were friendly, responsive and informative and efficient and fun. Very reasonable priced for quality and quantity of food. Highly recommend.“

“I thoroughly enjoyed the all-day Sunday brunch. The servers and manager were super attentive and welcoming. The food and drinks were delicious and the chef was very personable. Additionally, they allowed an older unhoused gentleman to sit in from the frigid temperatures and have a complimentary hot tea. Would totally recommend.“

“Came here maybe 15 years ago. And it was bang in then. Came back to dc got a fish platter Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes with a slice of sweet potato pie. There might be actual narcotics in the recipe. Absolutely smashed this plate that could have fed 2. Try it. Period. Thank me later“

“This place is great and fast and the barbecue rib, beef is the best! The no fat and best meat and the most seasoned. I don’t like pork ribs and they offer beef ribs. The best quality too! Grateful for the money spent, I have come back multiple times for it!“

“Absolutely wonderful place. The food was excellent, prices surprisingly cheap for the quality and quantity of food. Everything was well cooked and seasoned. I normally dont order home fries because at most places they are a soggy bland mess, but here they were absolutely delicious. I got the fried pork chops and they were delicious.
Wholly recommend this place.“

“I ordered the smothered pork chop and catfish meal's. This was my first time ordering from this restaurant and I'm not gonna lie, I was very skeptical when I saw there was a soul food restaurant on this side of the DMV area. Most often when I see a place selling soul food in this area, my expectations are low and my disappointment is high. However, when I talked to the gentleman behind the counter while he poured a bowl of butter over the candy yams, I thought this place might have a chance. And, Lord have mercy, I was right to give this place a chance. I was not disappointed at all. It was everything soul food is supposed to be: seasoned, flavorful and unhealthy if you have high cholesterol, or blood pressure.
I WILL be back!!“
