“I hadn’t been here in years since they changed ownership. Looking at some of the reviews I was leery. Boy am I glad that I didn’t listen. Went here for dinner last night and everything was absolutely delicious. The fried chicken, fried catfish, lambs, crab cakes and sides of Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, collards, potato salad, and corn bread were all superb. It definitely tasted like eating at your grandmothers. The potato salad was just like my Gma’s; finely diced with celery, celery seed, and a slight tang of mustard accompanied by a slight sweetness. The collards are vegan hence no meat but were still delicious, tender, and flavorful. The drinks were delicious as well. The portion sizes were quite large with everyone having leftovers except for the lamb chops they were so delicious that my friend ate all of them. Matter of fact when she accidentally attempted to cut them with the wrong side of the knife it still went through. Couldn’t recommend more supporting this black owned business.“

“I had such a memorable night a Georgia Brown. Very welcoming place, awesome peach martinis to put our table in the right mood. Very kind staff, extremely generous portion, full of flavor. I was not able to finish the guambo which never happened to me before. Phenomenal, no question on why Georgia Brown is a local institution.“

“True to description, it's a cafeteria in a church basement served by nice ladies. The portions are beyond generous for the price. I got a ribs meal for 15 bucks that's a good two BIG meals for me.Ribs were so good, meat just falling off the bone. Enjoyed the yams and the greens too. Didn't have a line when I went there at 11:30 on a weekday.Recommend for soul food on the area.“

“Well worth the drive!! While visiting the Great Wolf Lodge in Perryville, Maryland I was in the mood for some soul food. I googled a few place by looking at the pictures, so Henry’s soul cafe in Washington DC caught my eye, Plus I was going to be in the area. Food looked good but I had to wait till I got back to my room to eat because I didn’t go to the one with a seating area, No problem though lol but I was hungry. All the sides were delicious, i got the rib plate it was good and tender. My wife got the fried pork chop plate and she loved it. So much food we was eating off each other plate.“

“Delicious and very friendly service! I had jerk chicken (spicy) which came with rice & beans, cabbage, plus I ordered a side of plantains and a bottle of sorrel (hibiscus/ginger drink). All were excellent. I was going to try a seafood dish but those are made fresh to order and take about 20 min whereas the other dishes come out immediately. Next time I'll have to order ahead for fish! btw I accidentally dropped a tip in a coffee mug and Andrene was very gracious about it! ☺️“

“FIRST TIME GOING: I tried the jerk wings with the jasmine rice and a side of greens. The wing meat falls off the bone. The rice picks up the jerk flavoring beautifully and is light and not starchy. The wings were nicely proportioned and meaty too. You won't feel that you are not getting enough. The greens (their "mamas greens") are really done well ?. Nicely flavored in a beautiful brown pot liquor (that you will want to drink -- like I did -- after you finish the greens). The greens have just the correct texture with no hard stems. They melt in your mouth but are not mushy at all... You won't find a better bowl of collards.Overall the food I had was packed with flavors, filling and not swimming in fat or overly greasy. I'm glad I tried this place and will return to try other menu options. I'm impressed ??“

“I moved from NYC to DC and I brought my food snob attitude. Then I stumbled across Open Crumb and expectations were low. To my surprise, I had the best meal I've had all year (including NYC restaurants). The Red Red is a perfect blend of spices and balance between sweet and savory. I've taken food to other friends in DC and they loved the peanut soup with chicken (more like gravy than soup and good over rice). Don't overlook this DC gem!“

“first I called thinking it was the location by Walmart but it wasn't. k tried to order online but the web wanted a review before ordering which i thought was odd. guy that answered let me know I couldn't order over phone. and I should do the review. oh well needless to say I just walked in and to my surprise I would've ordered from this location and went to the wrong one. however I was pleasantly pleased with the hot food out on the line letting me know i wouldn't be waiting long. that was Friday today is Sunday and I returned for more and a nice customer paid for my food and all he wanted was a cup of ice. look at GOD. Friday I had the 2 meat beef short ribs and wings. thought it would've been full wings like at the other location but that was when i ordered wings only not a plate. with my favs greens and yams which are whipped by the way. so today was greens yams and cabbage since im doing steaks tonight. i live in Houston and when I'm in town oohs and aahs got me..“

Senbeb Natural Foods Co-Op Vegan • $
6224 3rd St NW, Washington

“I love the BBQ tofu. Its a nice sweet BBQ sauce with a little bit of a nutty flavor (not sure if there's actually nuts). The Mac and cheese is okay. Sometimes the cheese texture is similar to the texture of glue. I think I'm used to a different style of vegan Mac and cheese like Nu vegan or E life has. The people who work here are always nice and there's an interesting small plant based grocery connected to the restaurant that you can look around while waiting for your food.“
