Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it there at the time and ended up going to two other places—one was okay, the other was awful. Later, I told my wife we needed to try Sabores, maybe on New Year’s Day. Again, we ended up at a “safe” spot we like to visit. The food and service were good, but it was just our usual go-to. Fast forward to last week: my best friend from Puerto Rico came to visit with his family. He loves to eat, and his wife can be hard to please. This time, we decided to go to Sabores Tapas Bar. I’ll admit, I was nervous—I wanted them to have a great experience, but pleasing everyone is never easy. Finally, we went. What can I say? The food was amazing, and the service was just as incredible. It was so good we couldn’t stop eating. I had high expectations—growing up, my house was always full because my friends came over for my mom’s cooking. She’s an amazing cook. Mom, forgive me for saying this, but Sabores Tapas Bar is as good as, if not better than, your cooking, and the service was amazing. Wow. I’ve found the place. It’s so good that I want to go back and try dishes I normally don’t like, just to see if they can make me love them. I can’t wait to return. I was warmly greeted and promptly presented with a menu despite a busy evening. I opted for a charcuterie board paired with the boom boom shrimp.

I was impressed with Lilly’s expertise, as she guided me through several wine recommendations, leading me to try the vino verde.

The lemon lime and green apple notes coupled with some of the best prosciutto assortment I’ve had, made me think I was on the coast of northern Portugal even in the dead of winter.

Its on the way home from work, it's never overly crowded and it's by far the best bc of the staff. Rosa, Joseph and Maria have been cooking my nightly meals more then a few times and it's always an absolute pleasure bc the food is top notch, they are friendly, caring and have a knack for making you laugh as soon as you enter the door. In this age where cookie cutter nonsense is the norm they are not. They feel like a part of the neighborhood. They know people's names (or ask) and just have a very down to earth vibe about them. I even got a bonus taco. Yes you read that right. A bonus taco. Who could ask for more after a long 12 hour day. We loved having the whole bar and restaurant to ourselves in Ballston and welcoming guests from across the country and being in the Commentary’s/Westin’s care. Other than that this place is extremely solid. The bulgogi is usually rich in flavor, veggies are fresh, rice is nice and soft.

My order: white rice, bulgogi, half cucumber, half carrot, creamy sriracha? Chipotle?, sesame oil and seeds. Then when I get home I cook an over easy egg and throw it in. Lasts me three delicious meals!“
