“This is one of the best spots in the park for a vegan to come by for food. If you’re doing the meal plan, they have so many options that you’ll need to either drop by twice or choose to omit some stuff. (The meal plan option for vegans is 3 selections plus a bonus frybread)

All locations have a binder that includes the ingredient lists

For my first meal, I grabbed the roasted potatoes, roasted vegetables, mango salad, and the free piece of fried bread.

The bread is quite donutty! Delicious! The potatoes are straightforward.

The roasted veggies were nicely done, pleasant roasted onion flavor on it all.

the mango tomato salad was tasty. Peppery and mildly vinegary. The red onions are raw, as a heads up just in case. The cilantro is easily picked out and I didn’t taste the soap, so the soaking in the vinegar may have mellowed it.

They don’t have a 6th item, and watermelon doesn’t count, so for my 2nd meal to sample the items I didn’t get the first round, I just grabbed another serving of the roasted veggies.

The kale slaw is nice and tangy, not too crispy, but not soggy. The ramen gives it a subtle occasional chewiness.

The Bahamian rice isn’t really anything special, and the ingredients aren’t super healthy anyway. (And you can get rice at other locations in the park, so if you wanted to pare down the menu, this is the top item I would pass on.)

The second item I think I would pass on is the potatoes. Especially with the fried bread on the side. It’s the least interesting item compared to the other options.

So if you’re getting only one meal from here, I’d get the roasted veggies, kale slaw and mango salad with the fried bread. But when I visited last time, not everything was ready at park open. So if you’re maximizing the timing of your meals, I’d pop in real quick to the grains place near the entrance for first meal and then go to outpost for the second meal. By then everything should be ready.

I suspect like other locations within the park, that vegan items may sell out early without the intention to prepare more for the day. So definitely optimize the “once every 90 minutes” thing for your first few meals so you don’t miss out on the only items we can eat. (Also pay attention to the hours of each eatery. I missed out on trying outpost during my first visit because they closed early)

They have a very large outside dining area.“

The Jungle Market Eatery Burgers •
Safari Village, 16000 Theme Park Way, Doswell

“The only place in the ENTIRE park that doesn't give me a side of diarrhea with my order. This is the only place I will eat at in the park. Do the other restaurant employees not wash their hands or something? Literally this is the only safe place to eat.Side note: they need more trays, trashcans, and places to sit. Other than that, it's great.“

“I was very disappointed with the French toast. It was rubbery and couldn't even absorb any syrup. I have had many meals at Cracker Barrel in various cities and always had a good experience and meal. This time meal was very less than desirable.“

“I first found Iron Horse while looking for a good steak and burger spot near Kings Dominion. The reasonable prices and strong ratings convinced us to give it a try, and we enjoyed the experience enough to come back for a second visit—this time with my husband and kids during another trip to King’s Dominion.

On our first visit, the weather was perfect, so we sat outside. I ordered a grilled ribeye to share with my little son and a cheeseburger for my daughter, along with a market salad with goat cheese. Everything was delicious, and my kids kept asking for more of my steak and mashed potatoes! We also got to see the trains passing by, which added a fun and unexpected element to the dining experience.

Our second visit gave us another chance to try more of the menu. We ordered the beet salad, ribeye, scallops, and a beer. The beet salad was excellent—beets and arugula with goat cheese and candied walnuts made such a great combination that even my kids kept asking for bites.

We shared the ribeye again, and I really appreciated that it was served on two plates so the kids could easily share the steak, beans, and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked beautifully. Honestly, I was tempted to steal some of their food!

The scallop dish was rich and buttery, with a wonderfully ocean-like flavor, but a bit salty. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower risotto underneath the cooked spinach. The scallops and spinach alone might have felt a little too rich, but the cauliflower risotto added a lighter element that balanced the dish really well.

For dessert, we had the raspberry cheesecake, which had a comforting, homemade feel to it. We also ordered the Banana Foster, thinking it would be another sweet dessert, only to discover that it was actually a drink—and a very strong one! Definitely worth knowing before ordering.

One thing that stood out across in the first visit was the service. Our server was warm, thoughtful, and attentive. On our first visit, she even whispered when asking whether we wanted drinks or dessert for the kids, joking that as a parent herself, she knew those questions could sometimes create unnecessary drama. It was such a small but thoughtful gesture that I still remember it.

And there was another memorable moment from our first visit: I accidentally left my purse at the restaurant while heading to Target, after leaving my luggage at home. The staff quickly returned it to me, which was incredibly kind and reassuring. It became one of those funny little travel mishaps that we now get to share as a story.

On our second visit, the restaurant was quite busy for a Tuesday night, with many tables filled. To me, that was a great sign of a restaurant that is genuinely loved by the locals, even on a weekday. Despite being busy, our server did her best to take care of everyone. Our son vomited and we were provided with a lot of napkins to clean up on our own. We understand that the restaurant was too busy to help out.

After two visits, Iron Horse has definitely earned a spot on our list of places to return to when we’re in the Kings Dominion area. Great food, reasonable prices, attentive service, and—most importantly—a genuinely kind team.“

“I've been there twice recently (November 2022)since they changed owners. Unfortunately , I will not be back. The first time...I ordered a cheese steak sub. It was awful, it taste like salt. It was also missing all the toppings I had ordered. The sub roll they now use is so thick it's way too much bread. They use to have a thinner roll and made the bread toasty. Its nothing like before. I thought I would give them one more try since they are close to me. I ordered fried oysters. They were well... just ok, I wouldn't want them again.“

“Mama Marlboro made her special menthol fries and I haven't stopped coughing since. I think I got some of that menthol sauce in my lung or something, right where it belongs. The bathroom mirrors are huge, you can step right through without a problem- most of the bathroom mirrors here are so small you can't hardly even bring a friend through. The cabaret theme is sort of puzzling. I'm not really sure what to do with that. Will be returning for the fries and handy escape from the police!!“
