I'm not a vegetarian but everyone in Fredericksburg ​knows that if you go to Sammy T's you MUST try their vegetarian options, you WILL NOT be disappointed! The avocado and cheese sandwich is the best sandwich I've ever eaten, and I love a good steak and cheese, BLT, Italian sub, chicken sandwich etc, but you can find those options anywhere, but Sammy T's is on a whole different level.... You can actually taste the love in every creation on the menu! The avocado sandwich is just beyond words! You have to try their coleslaw and a basket of fries too. You won't be disappointed! Their cheeseburger is delicious too, but I made the mistake(a happy mistake) long ago and tried the avocado sandwich and now I have to have it every time I dine at Sammy T's. Perfect sweet iced tea as well and the service is outstanding every time!! Before being seated, ask if you can be seated in Coco's section. We've been fortunate quite a few times in the past month and, she has been our server--- she's the best! She truly is! BTW... don't forget to order the grilled cornbread, it's worth every penny and then some! Love this place!

Vegetarian options: Too many to list. The falafel is amazing! The grilled avocado sandwich is the best sandwich ever! The black bean burger is perfection! The gazpacho is delicious! The list goes on and on.

Both dishes were prepared exactly as we asked This is not so common as one would expect among restaurants. The food, particularly the steak, was as good as we have had anywhere and better than most. The baked potato was worth mentioning. It was prepared differently than I have seen elsewhere and it was delicious. My wife's salmon was on a bed of "Hoppin' John", a dish seldom found made of beans and what appeared to be wild rice. I haven't seen it since a native American restaurant in Connecticut. I liked it but my bride was less enthusiastic.\n\nService was excellent. Our server had several tables but she was always there when we wanted her and not there when we didn't.\n\nThe bill was high but not eye-watering so. My steak alone was $60 but in today's world it was not out of line for an upscale restaurant and this is very much so. \n\nOne note on ambiance; there was a large noisy party in progress and they were exiled to a separate room. I for one appreciated that and was not irritated by it. For me, that is unusual.\n\nWe'll be back!“

“I went to Metro Diner for the 1st time today. They were very busy. My son and I didn’t mind what we thought it was fair wait since we were catching up for the time I haven’t seen him. We were pleasantly surprised when the owner treated us breakfast. They were busy on Sunday morning and the service and food was still outstanding! Thank you guys. “My wife and I demolished the fish platter. We shared one platter because we thought we weren't that hungry, but once we started eating, I feel like we should have gotten two separate platters. The Mac and cheese is so good, seasoned and cheesy, noodles at perfect texture. The greens were also very well seasoned and balanced flavor. And the fish tasted fresh and so friggin good. So happy I stopped here and will definitely be going back, often. The staff was very welcoming and included the utensils and sauces without asking. Such a good meal, Thank you!“

“My husband and I went for dinner on 3/31/22 Our server was Vironique. It was the best service we have had in a long time. The food was piping hot which is always an issue with me since I was in the service industry for years. Totally recommend this place!!!“

Today, Rosie's Gourmet Pizza was there and it was fantastic. They were offering a döner kebab, which we had to have and it was absolutely delicious. Nice meat with lovely vegetables, pickled vegetables and a slight hint of heat in a lovely pide.EDIT: I forgot to mention the excellent beer! There are a great variety of brews here of varying styles. There are also some ambitious brews which turned out to be excellent also. The pineapple IPA was brightly flavored with a nice balance and a hoppy finish to compliment the sweet at the beginning - great for the warm day that we visited. The Scottish was nicely done, tasting appropriately with nice malty tones. The roast beef, pickle, potato ale is really that. We got all the hints and it tasted really good together! “Fish and grill really changed, since I last visited, some 5 years ago. The parking lot is kind of crowded- I didn't expect that to change in a strip zoned for businesses. But it's clean. They would do well to have one garbage can outside of the establishment but the sidewalk is narrow. The signage is visible. The restaurant is very open, airy and immaculate. We arrived, intending to eat in the car because we have a toddler with special needs: he's in keg casts. The restaurant had a separate area in the front, near the door that accommodated our needs. We are COVID conscious and wanted to be away from others. The food was fantastic. We had catfish meals and sides that were delicious, hot and arrived in a timely manner. My grandson was having a horrible time sitting and eating: he is in thigh high casts and he was not happy that he couldn't sit by himself or eat properly. He's very active and independent. While sitting in his mom's lap, he urinated through his diaper and down her leg. While we were ready to go back to the car to take everything "to go." Our server, Tiffany, came to the rescue. She went to the car and gave us a diaper he could fit and pants he could wear. I've never seen such a kind gesture at a restaurant. She is a gem. He's newly casted, so we had to buy new diapers (he's potty training but has to go back a few steps to a regular diaper. Tiffany saved the afternoon. I recommend Dish and Grill for the food (it's exemplary), for the ambiance and for kind people like Tiffany; people that really take pride in themselves and pass kindness to others. “We were roadtripping on 95 and needed a place to stop for snacks so we selected Foode and Mercantile. What a very pleasant surprise. After winding through a tree lined road boarding the river, we found the restaurant in quaint downtown Fredericksburg, VA. We each ordered bourbon based drinks, coffee, tea and Smoked Salmon, Quiche and a gingerbread scone! It was delicious! They quickly fixed what was a smaller than normal portion of salmon and kept coffee and water glasses full without asking. Very nice spot! Fresh cooked to order food with great service! “Look, man...what do you go to a bar for...seriously? Do you want to be seen at the latest hip joint, sipping a trendy cocktail and posting duck lip pics there on you IG ? ...or do you want cheap drinks in a place regulars come and could care less if you showed up in crocs and a Journey t- shirt from 1985?
My girl and I did an impromptu bar hop recently. We each had a drink at each venue, then moved on. We started at Happy Endings and ended up at...uh... well, never mind that. The next day, I checked my card and every place we went... over 20 bucks. ...Happy Endings... $6.95. Now granted... the other places didn't serve PBR in a can, but hey... sometimes you put an emphasis on value. Also, H.E. was the only place we had lively conversations with total strangers. I dunno... I've been going there for years and they always seem to deliver. Plus...in the current state of our economy, you want your drinking dollar to go a bit farther. To me it seems like all the bars in Fredericksburg are trying to stand out in their own sort of way. H.E. doesn't have to try.. they do it old school and don't care what you think. Just sit down, drink your PBR straight out the can and no need to pretend to be someone you're not. You're probably not that interesting anyway... like me. It's ok, I'll buy the next round and we can solve the world's problems.
Bottom line, Home town bar filled with friendly locals and dirt cheap drinks to lift your spirits....and a bar name that reminds you of your last trip to Bangkok... hell ya.

“I journeyed to the store yesterday in the rain to make sure I had goods for my small family on Thanksgiving day. I have serious hip issues, and as I made my way to the line, I was greeted with much humility. She got me a chair and told me to sit and someone would help me as soon as possible. The young lady took my order, rang it up, (back and forth) then offered to help me take it all to the car. The tears started to wail in my eyes. The kibdness of everyone took over in my heart. Didn't know how I was going to accomplish the feat, but the compassion helped bear my cross. I just kept praising the good Lord for having rams in the bush.
