“Such a wonderful hole in the wall. The lady running the register was so kind - ended up giving me a free soda out of the kindness of her heart and kindly retrieving me from outside when my food was ready for pickup. Their General Tso’s was perfect even after eating it after getting home.

A small and very clean operation with really good food and service. Will be coming back many times, again, in the future! Do not miss out on this place!“

“My sister and I really enjoyed the calamari, cucumber salad, braised beef and noodle soup and garlic green beans. I rate those 5 stars. We also ordered the ugly dumplings sampler, I rate this zero star and it a waste of money. Now the service was excellent! Our server Abel took his time explaining the menu since it's our first visit. He was always smiling, courteous and respectful.“

“Chef Tan Chinese Restaurant is situated at Danor Plaza, near Maple Avenue in Vienna, VA, serving authentic and flavorful Hunan cuisine with well-balanced flavors. Its exterior is modest, but the interior offers a spacious, modern ambiance with friendly service. The restaurant boasts a diverse menu and generous portions. I appreciate discovering a Chinese eatery that serves traditional dishes, avoiding westernized or Americanized variants that tend to be overly sweet.

Some dishes we loved and highly recommend:
1. Steamed pork dumplings, truly homemade with authentic flavor.
2. Pressure-cooked pork belly: tender, juicy, and mildly spicy.
3. Iron plate Mongolian beef: similar to Korean bulgogi but less sweet and saucy—very good!
4. General Tso’s chicken: a classic dish with chicken balls in a subtly sweet and mildly spicy sauce.
5. Pumpkin seafood tofu soup: sizable enough to share, with balanced flavors from pumpkin and seafood that weren’t overpowering
6. Fried rice: among the best in Northern Virginia, with a deep, savory flavor from stir-fried onions.“

“Food was amazing, server was excellent, great ambiance. Made a reservation ahead of time for our party of 5. When we arrived the hostess told us they could not seat us in a booth (there were 3 empty large booths) because they were reserved for a large parties. Within 5 minutes of being sat at a table, they sat 2 separate parties of 2 in the booths. Didn't really care about sitting in a booth but didn't appreciate being lied to. I did mention this to the manager who was apologetic and offered to move us. I told him we were totally fine at our table, I just wanted him to know they had lied about it. Didn't expect or ask for anything I just wanted him to be aware. He did end up comping one of our appetizers, apologizing, and speaking to the hostess.“

“I had Beef With Vegetables in Peppery Broth, Schezwan dish. They have full non-schezwan Chinese dishes as well. It’s was spicy and went great with rice. Food came out really fast, about 5 minutes. Beats fast food when in a hurry. It’s one of those local restaurants that never quite picked back up after COVID, was happy to support a local business.“

“First time trying them, got orange chicken lunch special and a BBQ spareribs appetizer. Oh man, was it fantastic and hit the spot. The spareribs were delicious, the orange chicken was still hot when I got back to my work, everything tasted great, good portions, good price, I will definitely be back for more!!

I ordered from parking spot at my work and I got the alert the food was ready for pickup right when I parked at the restaurant. Outstanding.“

My husband and I have keep it in regular rotation alongside China Bistro (Mama's Dumplings), and Sichuan Jin River. Becky and Wendy are incredibly hospitable, and the food is consistently spot-on. We especially come for their authentic Szechuan and Cantonese dishes — always flavorful, always satisfying. A must-try! Generous portions deliver excellent value at a fair price.“

“The dishes are even cleaner tasting and less salty than before, and we love the new chicken wonton soup. The chefs have creatively used spices and ground halal meat to recreate pork dishes. Great for those who eat halal but also for those who don't want to feel bloated after a Chinese meal. We loved the chicken broccoli and moo shoo and will be ordering again for this healthier take on American Chinese food.“

“The restaurant is nothing fancy but is one of my favorite rice noodles soup. So many different soup varieties but I love kimchi fatty beef and my partner always gets tomatoes 🍅😆 And if you like spicy, highly recommend the Spicy Beef Tripe Rice Noodles!

You can choose to cook yourself at the table which is what we did. It comes with all the sides that you would put in the noodles soup. It's so much more fun 😁 and the soup is very hot so don't worry the meat will cook just fine. Such flavorful soup and silky smooth rice noodles, it's the best in the winter time.“

“We enjoy Peter Chang’s in McLean. Food is always delicious and of high quality, some entrees can be on the oily side but you can ask for use of less oil during preparation. Service is great and ambience is quite nice. Sizzling pepper chicken, dragon eggplant, tofu with bok choy, dumplings and noodles are some of our favs. I would recommend dining in over carry out for optimal experience.“

“I love this place for the vibe and the fact that it stays open until 2:00 a.m. is a huge bonus. Sometimes I’m just so hungry late at night and there’s nowhere else open. Weekends are especially fun when other diners get into the karaoke. It creates such a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

On my first visit, our server was named Vicky (or Vicki) she was super sweet, very attentive, and made us feel comfortable the entire time. Overall, just a great server!

Found China Goirmet on a whim search and it exceeded our expectations!! The potstickers were tender, flavorful and mouth watering! The moo shi pork and the crispy crunchy beef were over the top wonderful! The prices were very reasonable and they even had bar service with extremely reasonable prices. “The egg drop soup is AMAZING. However, I found the steamed dumplings and spring rolls to be lacking flavor. The dumplings had large chunks of spring onion in them and barely any meat. Also, they were closer to Gyoza than Chinese dumplings. the spring roll had a great crunch, but barely any ingredients inside. I will definitely be going back for the soup and to try other dishes, but am disappointed so far.“

“Honestly, one of the best Chinese food I have ever had. The flavors and texture of every dish are amazing. The service was perfect, they were patient and very knowledgeable explaining each of our menu questions, which by the way looks a little intimidating, but we loved it.

We were also impressed by the speed, I don't think we waited more than 5 min for the first dish to arrive, then it was one after the other.

“The staff are all very friendly, and it’s clear they try to keep the restaurant as clean as possible. That said, because it’s an older establishment, it can be hard for it to look perfectly spotless no matter how much effort they put in.

If you visit, I highly recommend trying the crispy spicy fish, mung bean noodle salad, ribs, hot and sour soup, and of course, their handmade dumplings. The flavor is truly excellent, and this spot is definitely worth checking out!“

“Something to be said for doing the traditional dishes well above average. Hot and sour soup tangy and full of veggies. Sesame and teriyaki chicken top notch. Beef and broccoli and pork fried rice all you could ask for. Portions are ample, and service consistently cordial. Plenty of parking. Plenty of options. “I was not familiar with this place but my family was craving for real Chinese food! I checked good places near and decided to try China Express. To be honest when I parked in the front I was skeptical but follow my willingness to discover new places but when I got in and received by a very kind staff and felt the yummy smell from the kitchen I thought it was going to be good! I ordered fried rice, noodle soup, general tso chicken and some house lo mein, it was extremely delicious! Food quality is top and service was simply amazing! This is a hidden gem in Tysons and definitely will come back! Superb!“

“First off, the waitress was so kind and attentive! Also, the portions are huge; the photo doesn’t even do it justice! I had the pork pan fried dumplings which were some of the best I’ve ever had and the Sichuan beef noodle soup which was good, but nothing spectacular. The broth was super flavorful but the noodles and beef itself were quite average. I probably won’t return for the soups, just out of personal preference towards bigger noodles, but the dumplings were delicious!“

“I’ve been ordering takeout from Forbidden City since 2017. The food is always ready very fast prior to my arrival for pickup and service is always friendly. I’ve ordered an array of items from the menu such as Kung pao chicken, chicken fried rice, general tsos, and crispy shredded chicken/beef. Everything always tastes great. It’s the best takeout Chinese I’ve found in the area. Definitely recommend supporting this local small business!Edit: I’m seeing other reviews that say the business was sold and renamed Hunan Express. “This is the BEST Dim Sum place in the DMV area we visited this place every other Saturday. Family owned and operated great authentic Dim Sum experience tasteful and a variety of offerings We absolutely love this place we recently moved from the area and have not found yet a Dim Sum place. Looking forward to come back. This place gets a lot of traffic particularly on Dim Sum days Saturday and Sunday. Friendly personel all were amazing to us can recall Elvis he took care of us the first time we visited did for the three years we lived in the area and John if not mistaken he is the owner and his beautiful family ,wife and daughter all working together to provide a great dining experience to their customers. The staff was the same from first visit to our latest that says a lot about the management and happy employees take great care of the customers. “If you’re looking for real Sichuan food, not American “Chinese” food, Lakeside Asia Café is the spot. Everything we ordered was amazing.

The boiled fish was perfect. Soft fish, full of flavor, floating in spicy chili oil and numbing Sichuan peppercorns. This is the real deal.

The spicy chicken was crispy, fiery, and addictive. Not too greasy, just full of heat and taste. We kept going back for more.

The pork intestines hot pot was super tasty. Clean, chewy, full of deep flavor. The broth was spicy and rich.

The pig brain hot pot sounds wild, but it was so soft and smooth. Like custard, but savory and full of umami. Try it. Trust me.

The pork belly? Melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful, just the right amount of fat. Every bite was heaven.

This is not the place for orange chicken or sweet-and-sour pork. Don’t walk in here expecting Panda Express. You’ll embarrass yourself. This is real Chengdu food. It’s bold. It’s spicy. It’s alive.
