The place was empty so the food came quickly. The food was hot and delicious. The problem was at checkout. 2 cheeseburgers are $8.99 on the menu but they charged $11.99 and they don't give you the ticket until after you pay. The woman behind the counter was very slow and had to keep asking a man behind her. He said that the $11.99 was after taxes, but no. I finally received my $6 back but I did not get refunded for the tax.”

As I saw some staff putting up holiday decorations, I came in for a hand dipped chicken sandwich that was perfect! “Well researched food, solidly composed cocktails, and a warm interior make The Roosevelt one of the most talked about restaurants in RVA currently. Chef Leah is as much a researcher as she is a good chef. Being a long time food writer who has been on assignment in many kitchens, its no surprise to me that Leah has carved out a reputation for herself in Richmond recently. She sources a lot from local farmers, adheres often to seasonal common sense, and takes inspiration from her reading and research on Soul Food, Southern food, and Virginia food. I wouldn't classify prices at The Roosevelt as cheap but also wouldn't classify them as extravagant either. Marketed by many as a "neighborhood spot" I always see The Roosevelt as a great date night spot, particularly for those who might fancy themselves foodies. Congrats to Leah and The Roosevelt on their recent James Beard nod. In my opinion, well deserved.”

“Sub Rosa is THE bakery in Richmond! I live about 2 hours away and always make sure I stop by when I’m passing by. It’s about half a mile off the highway, so it’s easy. There’s no parking lot, so finding parking can be an issue, but don’t let that discourage you!

The bread and baked goods are as close to being in Europe as I’ve found (I lived abroad for 8 years). Crusts are light, flaky and leave a little butter on your lips. Everything is fresh and full of flavor. Staff is always friendly and welcoming.

They serve and sell both Recluse and Afterglow coffee - both are excellent local beans.

It honestly doesn’t matter what you get it’s going to be delicious. If it’s on the menu when you go I highly recommend the Georgian flatbread, the bao buns, the chorreadas, or the cachapas!”

I placed a large order just 30 minutes before closing—four chicken sandwiches, a 20-piece chicken tender meal, and their amazing honey biscuits—and everything was fresh, hot, and made to order. The chicken sandwiches were perfectly crispy and flavorful, and the tenders were juicy with a golden crunch. Best lychee martini I’ve had in Virginia. The crab dip with caviar on top was definitely an experience. But I really appreciate was that the staff took the time to talk to us and understand our pallet and make recommendations that were spot on every time. 18/10 Experience”
