It was my first time visiting your establishment and my first impression was the waitress Tabbi Englehart greeting me at the table, she had a smile and was very helpful and offered suggestions we should try. Service and timing were absolute perfect. Food was amazing as well. Pretty much they treat you like kings and queens. 100% would return. I would give this restaurant 10 stars if I could.“
“Dinner at Alewife was the highlight of our five-day visit to Richmond. First off, it was a relief to get out of downtown Richmond with its huge empty parking lots, boarded up storefronts and deserted streets. The historic Church Hill section, with its 19th century row and other houses and interesting looking restaurants and shops, was such a pleasant change. Parking near Alewife was a bit of a challenge, but we quickly found a spot just a block away.The restaurant itself has a fascinating vibe, part friendly neighborhood spot and part disarmingly upmarket dining room. You just knew the food would be interesting, and it was. We started with a gin and tonic and a non-alcoholic beer. The menu is fairly short and apparently changes nightly, or at least frequently.I would never in this world think that I would enjoy an appetizer of raw oysters, bright green pickle juice, creme fraiche and fresh dill. But it was an amazing flavor combination. My partner's appetizer was equally interesting -- lox on thick, toasted rustic bread.As mains, we had the arctic char, with grilled carrots, and the skate, both perfectly prepared and delicious. Service throughout the meal was just right -- friendly, attentive but not overly so. Our charge for two, including tip, was around $150, well worth the price. Thank you for a great meal experience!“
“Our first time coming in here and I must say I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't impressed. For our appetizer we had the southern egg rolls which were delicious, but the fact that 1 order is just 1 egg roll cut in half for 8 dollars in my opinion is a bit much, so we ordered 2. Next the mains, my wife ordered the baked chicken with Mac and cheese and cabbage, the baked chicken was very juicy but over seasoned, the Mac and cheese was decent but that cabbage was just way to sweet for our liking. Myself I ordered the shrimp and grits w/ bacon. Flavor wise I thought it was perfect but when I asked the hostess was it supposed to be that cold she picked up the plate and said "well the bottom of the plate is warm". Not trying to make a big stink out of it I asked her to simply put it in the microwave, she came back with a fresh order but now forgot my bacon smh, once I asked my waiter for my bacon, another server stood off to the side analyzing my plate like I'm gonna lie over bacon. “Quaint spot with a huge vibe!!!! Make your reservations early! My friend and I are black women entrepreneurs, so we loved supporting another Black woman owned establishment!! The food, drinks, and service were fire! Our reservations were at 530pm and we pretty much stayed until closing! I need the DJ's Playlist for real. The spoken word, live music, and comedy were all fabulous! Go check it out! We'll worth the 1.5 drive we made.“

Our server Destiny was by far one of the best servers I have ever had in my life, very friendly and such great energy! I ordered the steak and cheese and my friend ordered their deep dish pizza . The steak and cheese was filled with meat and tasted amazing, the bread was fresh and the fries were crispy and flavorful! The pizza was huge and was also amazing! “We came on a Saturday night for dinner. It was a bit unclear if you were to seat yourself or not, and the service was a bit slow due to how busy the bar was since a live band was starting soon. However, our experience overall was excellent.The biscuit is probably the best biscuit I've had at a restaurant, ever. Absolutely recommend. We tried three flavors of wings and all thought the gochujang was the most outstanding. The pinto beans, pickles, slaw, and chicken quesadilla were all flavorful and solid. We loved everything we tried.“

“I was there for a pottery pop up market, advertised as part of a pot-pub crawl in conjunction with the NCECA Pottery Convention in town- I of course had to pop in for a cocktail! I got the Blackberry Smash- which was delicious, even if I was freezing and wishing for a hot drink! lol. I also was intrigued with their specialty simple syrups- I sprung for a blackberry vanilla simple syrup to take home for cocktails! The bar was brightly lit, fun menu boards and quick service! “Firstly, I am a huge fan of the band and crew and everyone behind the project known as GWAR. We came to town for one of their shows, and my partner is vegetarian, so we needed good vegetarian food. Well wouldn't you know, this place has everything you could ask for. Strong drinks, good veggie-head food, good meat eater food, and the best atmosphere I could ask for. So awesome. “This is such a cute place by the canal! We went for dinner on Monday and had a lovely time. The food was delicious! I gave it 4 stars because I do wish their salad had a bit more to it besides lettuce (no, I did not have a Cesar). However, the mushrooms I added were seasoned and cooked really well. The queso, though!!! We scraped that bowl clean! Margaritas are top-notch, too! I had the blackberry and the fully loaded. I would get the blackberry over and over again. So good! Blake was our server, and his calm, patient demeanor was a breath of fresh air. He answered all our questions, provided great recommendations, and is very knowledgeable. I've seen some posts about auto gratuity and fees - we did not have any. When we paid, we could select a percentage for tip or type in any amount. I did get a paper receipt, and the only thing added was tax, as expected.“
“We dropped in at The Park Friday night. We didn't really plan on staying long but were having a pretty good time and before we knew it, a couple hours had passed and we'd stayed for dinner. “We were driving through Richmond and stopped here because the boys were feeling burgers. I loved that I could get mushrooms, Swiss, arugula, and garlic aioli. And choice of sides - our table had sweet potato tots, side salad, fries, and chips. Ordered our burgers medium, and to my delight, they actually came out bright pink! Played Nintendo, ring toss, and Cards Against Humanity while waiting. It was too cold to sit outside, but they have a great outdoor space. We ordered milkshakes to go. If we didn't have another 2 hours ahead of us on the road, I'd have gotten a flight of beer - great selection on tap.My only complaint: skinny straws. Thick milkshakes are not as enjoyable through a skinny straw. And theirs are skinnier than a regular straw, when for a milkshake, you want a fat boba straw.“

“I was here visiting from Colorado and my son told me about this bar. Being a huge Rob Zombie fan, as soon as my son mentioned Captain Spaulding, I had to see this place. I LOVE this bar!! Met the owner briefly, and he was a super nice guy. I told him I was here from Colorado, but he had already figured I was from out of town. Guess walking around the whole place running live videos was a dead giveaway, LOL. Anyway, if you enjoy local bars with good music and great people, make sure to stop here when in Richmond. “Oh dear, my oyster experience here was not a good one. Instead of sweet, juicy morsels of chewy goodness we were served dried, stringy oysters full of grit and pieces of shell. I can do better at home. This was to be a highlight of our trip and yet was a huge disappointment. Paella was okay, especially the Socarrat. Again shrimp and mussels were overcooked. Seafood chef take note.“

“I had the pleasure of eating at this restaurant during lunch. And it just so happened that it was Taco Tuesday! Beef tacos that are authentic and not skimpy, $1.50 each. I had the chili rellenos that came with a side order of Spanish rice refried beans soft tortilla shells and of course tortillas and salsa, before my meal came. I had iced tea which has free refills The service was impeccable! Very attentive! Checked at my table frequently, to see if I needed anything else. Gave me a to-go cup of iced tea as well as some tortilla chips and salsa to go for free. Highly recommend this restaurant!
