“Dinner at Alewife was the highlight of our five-day visit to Richmond. First off, it was a relief to get out of downtown Richmond with its huge empty parking lots, boarded up storefronts and deserted streets. The historic Church Hill section, with its 19th century row and other houses and interesting looking restaurants and shops, was such a pleasant change. Parking near Alewife was a bit of a challenge, but we quickly found a spot just a block away.The restaurant itself has a fascinating vibe, part friendly neighborhood spot and part disarmingly upmarket dining room. You just knew the food would be interesting, and it was. We started with a gin and tonic and a non-alcoholic beer. The menu is fairly short and apparently changes nightly, or at least frequently.I would never in this world think that I would enjoy an appetizer of raw oysters, bright green pickle juice, creme fraiche and fresh dill. But it was an amazing flavor combination. My partner's appetizer was equally interesting -- lox on thick, toasted rustic bread.As mains, we had the arctic char, with grilled carrots, and the skate, both perfectly prepared and delicious. Service throughout the meal was just right -- friendly, attentive but not overly so. Our charge for two, including tip, was around $150, well worth the price. Thank you for a great meal experience!“
“Our first time coming in here and I must say I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't impressed. For our appetizer we had the southern egg rolls which were delicious, but the fact that 1 order is just 1 egg roll cut in half for 8 dollars in my opinion is a bit much, so we ordered 2. Next the mains, my wife ordered the baked chicken with Mac and cheese and cabbage, the baked chicken was very juicy but over seasoned, the Mac and cheese was decent but that cabbage was just way to sweet for our liking. Myself I ordered the shrimp and grits w/ bacon. Flavor wise I thought it was perfect but when I asked the hostess was it supposed to be that cold she picked up the plate and said "well the bottom of the plate is warm". Not trying to make a big stink out of it I asked her to simply put it in the microwave, she came back with a fresh order but now forgot my bacon smh, once I asked my waiter for my bacon, another server stood off to the side analyzing my plate like I'm gonna lie over bacon. All in all I would recommend that if you haven't tried it yet please do so. Picture of shrimp and grits was the first order before i asked for another“
“Food was delicious, we had the deep fried rabbit for two, the coating was outstanding, accompanied by spatzel and collards, both very good. Our favorites were the savory meatball, that sauce is so tasty, they should consider either adding another meatball or making it bigger! The desserts were also a standout, the chocolate pot du creme and the pecorino cake were fantastic.“
“The short rib ravioli was amazing! We arrived in time to enjoy the happy hour and the Brussels sprouts appetizer were crispy and so good. Highly recommend the chocolate torte, served on plate with cocoa powder, the playing of the dishes took it up a notch and well presented! Will definitely be coming back.“

The food, drinks, and service were fire! Our reservations were at 530pm and we pretty much stayed until closing! I need the DJ's Playlist for real. The spoken word, live music, and comedy were all fabulous! Go check it out! We'll worth the 1.5 drive we made.“

“I ate here with a good friend of mine and the atmosphere was very nice, we got a wonderful booth next to the window and they work on a reservation system so heads up on that! The food overall was pretty good, my friend is a big fan of their broccoli but for me nothing stood out to me. Its a very Richmond hipster restaurant with taking elements from different cultures but with their own twist. The dessert however was great and the staff is wonderful so it makes me sad to see disrespectful costumers.“

“Great find! The shareables are so good and a nice way to try things without getting a lot, but with several at a table you get plenty to eat. Food was great, tomato soup and grilled cheese was best I've had. Truffle devil eggs. Wow! Wattress was attentive, told us about different foods. Woll be back!“
“We came on a Saturday night for dinner. It was a bit unclear if you were to seat yourself or not, and the service was a bit slow due to how busy the bar was since a live band was starting soon. However, our experience overall was excellent.The biscuit is probably the best biscuit I've had at a restaurant, ever. Absolutely recommend. We tried three flavors of wings and all thought the gochujang was the most outstanding. The pinto beans, pickles, slaw, and chicken quesadilla were all flavorful and solid. We loved everything we tried.“
“Mellow Mushroom may be my favorite pizza of all time! Patrons will be greeted by an eclectic and vibrant interior, not to mention the friendly and welcoming staff. The menu is full of options, but the star of the show is the Holy Shiitake pizza. Every time I come with a large enough group, we order something else as well as the Holy Shiitake, but I always regret not just ordering only the Holy Shiitake. It's unlike any other pizza I've had before, and one to remember! If you find yourself in Carytown for one meal, I would highly recommend this one!“
“We had a lovely Easter brunch outside on the front patio. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Easy to check in to our reservation and they were able to accommodate our request to sit outside. Kids menu worked well for our 2 children (4&6) and my husband and I loved the grouper sandwich. Great experience and lovely setting.“

“This is such a cute place by the canal! We went for dinner on Monday and had a lovely time. The food was delicious! I gave it 4 stars because I do wish their salad had a bit more to it besides lettuce (no, I did not have a Cesar). However, the mushrooms I added were seasoned and cooked really well. The queso, though!!! We scraped that bowl clean! Margaritas are top-notch, too! I had the blackberry and the fully loaded. I would get the blackberry over and over again. So good! Blake was our server, and his calm, patient demeanor was a breath of fresh air. He answered all our questions, provided great recommendations, and is very knowledgeable. I've seen some posts about auto gratuity and fees - we did not have any. When we paid, we could select a percentage for tip or type in any amount. I did get a paper receipt, and the only thing added was tax, as expected.“

“Firstly, I am a huge fan of the band and crew and everyone behind the project known as GWAR. We came to town for one of their shows, and my partner is vegetarian, so we needed good vegetarian food. “I was there for a pottery pop up market, advertised as part of a pot-pub crawl in conjunction with the NCECA Pottery Convention in town- I of course had to pop in for a cocktail! I got the Blackberry Smash- which was delicious, even if I was freezing and wishing for a hot drink! lol. I also was intrigued with their specialty simple syrups- I sprung for a blackberry vanilla simple syrup to take home for cocktails! The bar was brightly lit, fun menu boards and quick service! “As a bartender, I enjoy a good cocktail menu. Was able to try 3 drinks here and they were pretty good. The frozen "Sleigh Ya" was well balanced(I had 2), the Highway To the Manger Zone, a whiskey cocktail, was light and tasty, and the mezcal "Gifts of an Angel" was fairly light for a mezcal drink (in a good way). “The food was great. We ate the spring rolls appetizer and ribs entree. The bowl of rice was insufficient for the amount of meat. The five spice ribs tasted great and I think more veggies would have made for a filling meal. The hostess warned us about the slanted table, but at check out, my water glass fell off and cracked on the floor. It is upsetting to know that the elderly around us or our child could get seriously hurt if a glass falls off at the wrong moment. Please, manager or owner reading this, replace the table or fix it for the sake of guest safety. We really hope you toss it because it’s necessary and beneficial. Thank you.“
“We were driving through Richmond and stopped here because the boys were feeling burgers. I loved that I could get mushrooms, Swiss, arugula, and garlic aioli. And choice of sides - our table had sweet potato tots, side salad, fries, and chips. Ordered our burgers medium, and to my delight, they actually came out bright pink! Played Nintendo, ring toss, and Cards Against Humanity while waiting. It was too cold to sit outside, but they have a great outdoor space. We ordered milkshakes to go. If we didn't have another 2 hours ahead of us on the road, I'd have gotten a flight of beer - great selection on tap.My only complaint: skinny straws. Thick milkshakes are not as enjoyable through a skinny straw. And theirs are skinnier than a regular straw, when for a milkshake, you want a fat boba straw.“
“We visited tonight as we recently discovered how relaxed and inviting Stony Point is. We enjoyed a charcuterie board and drinks and especially the friendly staff. As our dog was watching from the door, they offered to deliver our food outside, then went back for a carafe of water for us. The wife and I ordered the fried chicken wings with the sweet teriyaki sauce they were very good but my wife wish they would have had six flats and six wings. We also ordered shrimp and grits. That entree was creamy and a little bit of heat spice on the shrimp. And if you want to good stiff drink I recommend the wrecking ball. Our waitress was very helpful and charming, as was the bartender. The music in the venue kept you moving in your seat and it was audible but not overbearing. Overall, a very good experience.“

“I was here visiting from Colorado and my son told me about this bar. Being a huge Rob Zombie fan, as soon as my son mentioned Captain Spaulding, I had to see this place. I LOVE this bar!! Met the owner briefly, and he was a super nice guy. I told him I was here from Colorado, but he had already figured I was from out of town. Guess walking around the whole place running live videos was a dead giveaway, LOL. Anyway, if you enjoy local bars with good music and great people, make sure to stop here when in Richmond. It was my first time visiting your establishment and my first impression was the waitress Tabbi Englehart greeting me at the table, she had a smile and was very helpful and offered suggestions we should try. Service and timing were absolute perfect. Food was amazing as well. Pretty much they treat you like kings and queens. 100% would return. I would give this restaurant 10 stars if I could.“
