“We Love Ruby Brink! Burger night—say no more…! The beef dip sandwich on the lunch menu is another favorite. We love eating here for so many reasons though. This isn’t a “high staff turnover” type restaurant where you’ll be greeted by stressed out workers plastered with fake smiles fighting over tables like you might be used you. This is a grown-up establishment with grown-up food and grown-up and experienced, competent and empowered staff and I appreciate how this dynamic expressed itself in terms of guest experience. When I say that the food is grown-up I mean that it is carefully selected and prepared from scratch and this means it does not taste like what other restaurants are doing, which often is buying bags of frozen soup and sauces from the chef supply store to keep costs down and to keep everything tasting exactly the same, every time. “Last night (a Saturday evening) was our first dinner at the Hardware Store Restaurant on Vashon Island, and it absolutely exceeded every expectation!

We ordered the steak tartare special and the farmers market lasagne, and both were incredible. Every bite was fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. You can really tell they put thought and care into both their seasonal specials and their ingredients.

What truly made the evening unforgettable, though, was our server, Christopher. Without question, he provided the best service I’ve experienced in all my years living in the Pacific Northwest. He was warm, genuinely welcoming, attentive without ever being intrusive, and made us feel like valued guests from the moment we sat down until we left. Hospitality like his is rare, and it made an already wonderful meal even more memorable.

We’ll happily be making the ferry ride back just to enjoy another fantastic dinner—and, hopefully, another evening with Christopher taking care of us. I’m already looking forward to bringing my mom so she can experience this wonderful restaurant for herself. Thank you for such a memorable evening!“
