“The spicy broth here HITS the spot, like the broths in Asia, which is typically hard to find in the Western world. The owner was so sweet, and the food came quick.

The decor and vibe is also really authentic. I can't quite put my finger on what that je ne sais quoi is, but you really do feel transported to Asia for hearty, soul-warming bowl of noodles. What a hidden gem.“

This is the style I grew up eating and I’m so glad I live walking distance. Prices are also very reasonable!

There is only one table so I would expect to just take out instead. This isn’t really a dine in place.“

“Reasonably priced tasty dinner of Shanghai Soup Dumplings, Sweet fried chicken wings, and beef stew noodle soup. Delicate XLB and juicy. Wings were crunchy, meaty, and lightly battered and fried. It’s one of our “go to places” for Chinese food in Alameda. Small local neighborhood place with nice service.“

“Was looking for a place to eat on my birthday new years day, my stepbro picked it out, he said he ate there 20 yrs ago, I was reluctant as it looked outdated and empty, but I was surprised when the food came in quickly, the staff was friendly and the plates of food were huge! I kept asking my bro if he accidentally ordered family size, nope. We ordered egg rolls, 1 order must have had 10 pieces! Delicious spare ribs, wonton soup, honey walnut prawns (jumbo!) Mongolian beef, they gave us almond cookies instead of fortune, that was a nice change, there was so much food leftover to take home, I'll be going back, I don't know how they can afford to give so much for so little $, very reasonable.the only thing was the place was so cold, we were both freezing. no heat!“

“China Villa has been a favorite of mine for over twenty years, and it never disappoints. The service is always great—friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which makes it especially family-friendly. The food is consistently good and works just as well for takeout as it does for dining on the premises. If you choose to eat in, the views are a lovely bonus and really enhance the experience. It’s a reliable, comfortable spot that keeps us coming back year after year.“

“5/5. Came here for late night food pick up. I was greeted promptly and the gentlemen took my order. I could understand his English perfect (not sure why other reviewers say they can’t?) Food is definition of local Chinese gem. Mongolian beef, Orange chicken & Bbq fried rice was gas. If you’re an orange chicken snob you’ll probably not go anywhere else after“

“Chef's Wok: A Cantonese Gem on the Island
For those seeking the true pulse of Hong Kong-style dining without leaving the island, Chef’s Wok stands as a premier destination for authentic Cantonese seafood and BBQ cuisine. The establishment carries a prestigious lineage; the owner also operates the popular Pearl Tea House across San Leandro, Dublin, and Fremont, bringing a refined touch to Alameda’s culinary scene.
Tank-to-Table Freshness
The hallmark of Chef’s Wok is its impressive live seafood selection. Diners can select fresh catches directly from the tank, including:
Fish: Striped bass, rock cod, and snapper.
Shellfish: Maine lobster, Dungeness crab, Geoduck clam, and live shrimp.
Under the guidance of the new manager, Wendy, the service is remarkably detailed. When ordering from the tanks, guests enjoy dedicated table service complete with both wet and paper napkins—a small but significant touch that elevates the experience.
Daily Dim Sum and Signature BBQ
The restaurant is a local hub for dim sum lunch, which draws a lively crowd nearly every day. While the midday rush focuses on steamed delights like their famous golf-ball-sized siu mai, the BBQ and specialty promotions are the real draw for dinner.
Keep an eye out for their big promotions on staples like:
Roasted Duck and Soy Sauce Chicken.
Steamed Queen Chicken.
Fresh Lobster with Egg Noodle.
On weekends, the menu reaches new heights with exclusive promotions on roasted squab and steamed dried abalone, making it an ideal spot for special family gatherings.
Atmosphere and Pairings
The dining room is spacious and welcoming, suited for everything from casual lunches to large banquets. Unlike many traditional spots, Chef’s Wok offers a curated selection of wines by the glass or bottle, with a focus on red wines that pair beautifully with their rich roasted meats.“

General chicken was Crispy and little spicy, it is sweet. The chowmein with skinny noodle was little dry, picked the thicker noodle of you want to ordered chowmein. Fried rice was huge and they like us do a combo chicken and pork. In general, I like the food with the chili oil. The service was good.“

“I could definitely say Gim’s is my favorite to-go restaurant in the whole of Bay Area and that says a lot!! Everything is really good but my favorite is the sweet & sour pork over rice. Lunch menu is cheaper so it’s better to order around that time. Now they have knick-knacks on the side available to purchase. Definitely will keep coming back to this hidden gem in Alameda! 😋👍🏼“
