It’s one of our “go to places” for Chinese food in Alameda. Small local neighborhood place with nice service.“

“I got the duck last time and was seriously disappointed. Got the tenpura one this time and completely different story. Flavor is incredible especially with the chili flakes they give you. The wasabi salt is a great dipper for the tempura! Now we are hooked!“

“Coming from the San Gabriel Valley, which has plenty of Sichuan food, I’m always on the hunt for good Sichuan places in East Bay. Of which, there aren’t that many.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food at Mr. Liu Noodle House.

The noodles in the Beef Noodle Soup were bouncy, and the broth was wonderfully fragrant and savory. It had just the right amount of flavor and salt.

Their chengdu dumplings are delicious as well. Nice homemade wrappers with a chew to them, in a fragrant balanced chili oil. Just the right amount of Sichuan peppercorn.

The blistered green beans had a nice wok hei to them, and packed a salty punch from the pickled vegetable (“sui mi ya cai”)

Service was lovely. The boss lady 老闆娘 refilled our water multiple times.“

“The best XLB I ever had. The thickness of the exterior dumpling that holds the delicious pork soup mixture inside is the perfect balance where you can gently and carefully pull it apart from the parchment paper it sits upon without tearing and spilling everywhere, and it is not too soft, not too hard, but perfect. Only someone with a masterful and skilled hand could have done this, and the Chef takes confidence and pride in their dumplings, looking through the glass to see our reaction of that first bite, eagerly awaiting for the joy inside to let loose into a smile and a laugh. I pray that this place never goes out of business. The staff was friendly enough, the environment was clean enough, the decor was cute and simple, there is one restroom, very well stocked and clean, and smells kind of like the very first Yugioh starter pack kit, back when it was just Yugi and Kaiba starter decks. I also had a refreshing berry drink that was worth it. We got XLB classic and crab, pan fried soup dumpling, and the very delicious fresh pea leaves which was worth it's price fully in satisfaction of flavor, vibrantness, and freshness. The flavor of their vinegar and chilli was also not cheap or lacking, but very good in spice level and flavor and vinegariness, which isn't a word, I know, but like come on. This place is so so so good. I need to go again.“

“I arrived about 15 minutes before they opened because I was starving and asked if I could wait inside until they started serving. They were incredibly accommodating - not only did they let me sit inside, but they also allowed me to place my order early, which I really appreciated and wasn’t expecting.

I ordered the tomato and egg lo mein, and it was exactly the kind of comforting meal I was hoping for. I finished every last bite - no leftovers 😬“

“The meat quality is pretty good! Although there was a big party right before us so we had to wait for quite a bit after seated for food to be served, the dining experience was satisfying. I got the yuzu soup base, was quite refreshing. Would recommend to come early (around or before 6 pm) to avoid long waiting time.“

“They have the best ramen. We had the veggie ramen with gluten free noodles and extra tofu. It was delicious. The veggie broth is flavorful and creamy. The broth isn’t technically 100% gluten free, so not recommended for celiacs. We also had shishito peppers that were great. The space is welcoming and the staff is exceptional. They are very attentive and helpful. The ramen is served quickly after ordering so the wait times are minimal.“

The Tofu Banh Mi Sandwich was excellent! Wonderful flavor, amazing texture, just the right amount of sauce and spices. I called in my order, and it was ready when I arrived in 10 minutes. Their service over the phone and in-person was engaging and courteous. The price was extremely reasonable. I also love that they charge less if you pay in cash – a great way to wean all of us off the credit card system.“

“We loved this place! The food felt really authentic and everything we tried was delicious and high quality. We especially liked the banchan. The kimchi was excellent too.

The service was also very friendly, and overall we had a great experience. We would definitely come back. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait because this place is popular. we went on a Monday evening and it was still quite busy. Parking can be tough too. Definitely worth the wait!“

“Cool place (love the decor/style), nice staff & tasty food. Some dishes you will not find in the average Thai restaurant in the Bay Area. For example, the chef or owner is from northern Thailand so the menu features a top Northern Thai dish - Kao Soi noodle soup (beef or chicken), or the all time fav 'street food' grilled pork skewers (moo ping) served with sticky rice (ck out the menu on their website). I had the Pad Kemao Chicken (menu says beef but they are happy to make dishes with what you like & even have Beyond Meat dishes on the menu - cool to see stir fried basil with Beyond Meat (Krapao Beyond Neur)). The taste of my wok fried pad kemao was delicious, same or better than any I've had on prior trips to Bangkok. Glad to have discovered a solid Thai restaurant that doesn't have watered down flavors. Good to see they have a lot of gluten free and vegan choices on the menu too. Definitely will be back, keep up the good work!“

“First of all, the food was great. I could tell it was a popular restaurant based on the non-stop delivery pick-ups!
The service was unique. There was only one older gentleman, and a bit of a language barrier. But we were able to easily order and communicate that they were out of the donuts. 😭
But despite that, and the hole-in-the-wall location of it. And the confusion of a another, similarly named restaurant Spices across the street. But we got pointed in the right direction and we were very happy with the quality and flavor of the food.
We had the Kung Pao Chicken, Pork Buns, and scallion pancakes. All of which was delicious.
And the price was phenomenal. Especially given how much prices have gone up over the last couple of years.“

“I’ve been going to Monster Pho ever since I moved to Oakland five years ago, and it has become my go to spot for pho. I usually keep it simple and order the rare steak pho without adding much because the broth speaks for itself. As someone who has had pho from all over the Bay Area, I can honestly say that Monster Pho has a style of broth that is uniquely their own. It tastes like a family recipe that has been perfected over time. It is rich, comforting, and consistently delicious.

What keeps me coming back is not just the food. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere makes you want to stay awhile. As a father of four with kids ranging from a teenager to toddlers, finding places that work for the whole family is important. I’ve been bringing my children here since they were little, and Monster Pho has become one of those special Oakland traditions for us.

I also really appreciate the role they play in the community. They are always supporting local causes, hosting fundraisers, and finding ways to give back. In a city as vibrant and diverse as Oakland, places like Monster Pho matter. They help create the sense of community that makes this city special.

Great food, great people, and a great atmosphere. I’m grateful Oakland has places like Monster Pho, and I look forward to bringing my family here for many years to come.

“Great little noodle house, very friendly and helpful staff and the food is great. I got the pork in garlic sauce it's delicious and has a good kick I also got the street noodles not pictured but also very tasty. I liked the texture and doneness of the noodles the broth was very good as well.

I will say the place could use a little dusting and maybe a coat of paint ok the future to brighten it up some. Other than that I enjoy it and will be back“

“This is the best ramen in Oakland and possibly the Bay Area. I’m still trying new ramen spots but out of 22 that I’ve tried throughout the Bay Area this is the best I ever had! The toloyaki is really good as well.

The vibe tho! Oh so nice , good music great atmosphere! I try to go twice a month but the way my cholesterol is set up I have to pull back lol.

“Ate here 4 times. 1: salmon w fish, 2nd: branzino w lime , 3: seabass eggplant and 4th: sweet sour fried pompano. all of them were excellent. thai fish cakes and mushroom dumpling for appetizers were great . My wife had Tom yum soup and coconut pad Thai : both of which she loved . our service was great as well. we live in San jose but we're up in Berkeley for about a few weeks and this Thai restaurant is better than any in South Bay. highly recommended!“

I also really enjoy their thin egg noodles, which strike a perfect balance between chewy and tender without becoming overly soft. However, the dish tends to be quite oily, so if you prefer lighter meals, this might not be ideal for you.

My usual order is the Number 1 without kidney, with the soup served on the side. I also always add fish cake as an appetizer. The total cost for two regular dishes plus one appetizer comes to $53.75.

What I love about this restaurant is how it evokes the authentic flavors of Thailand’s street food, especially the dry yellow egg noodles. While it doesn’t include traditional Thai-style char siu or wontons, the taste remains quite close to home.

This well-established Chinese restaurant impresses me with its surprisingly clean restrooms, likely due to my morning visits. Parking can be difficult, as only metered street parking is available. “Excited to experience dim sum at night! That's the best part about this place. Dim sum anytime. This is one of their newest location. We're so glad we came here. Parking was insane but we got lucky and parked by a nearby lot. We even met the owner Michael. What a nice man! Two of my friends have tried their SF location so they already knew what to order. Lucky me! Everything was mouth watering delicious. The wait outside was not long at all and we came early by 6 pm. There's 2 levels of seatings and I highly suggest to ask for the upper floor seating. Much cooler up there on a warm day/night. The servers were so nice. I definitely remember William. Checked on us often and made sure we enjoyed our meal. We had 7 dim sum selections and there was plenty for the 3 of us. We even had a mini to go box at the end. The price is $$. “The best Asian food we have had in a long time! We were expecting average, but our did was delicious. A nice surprise was the Asian slaw served as an appetizer. Spicy, tangy chopped cabbage. “Just wrapped up a fantastic dinner at Sukko Thai and I have to say, every dish hit the mark. We ordered the chicken pad Thai, mango fried rice, and basil eggplant, and honestly, it was tough to pick a favorite.

The pad Thai had that perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and savory, with chicken that was tender and not overcooked. The mango fried rice was a standout for me. Sweet chunks of ripe mango paired with perfectly seasoned rice made for a dish I'm already thinking about ordering again. And the basil eggplant? Bold, aromatic, and packed with that fresh Thai basil flavor that you just can't fake.

What really impressed me was how fresh everything tasted. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in their ingredients. No heavy, greasy aftertaste, just clean, vibrant Thai flavors done right.

“What a gem of a place. I always, always pass by here to go to Thanh Ky on the corner and always wondered. I wondered whether this tiny Vietnamese place in Oakland would live up to the hype of Vietnamese cuisine in San Jose, and I’m so glad to report that it did.

They have a huge menu, lots of noodles soups, rice, different apps that represent all across the Vietnam region (all parts, northern, southern etc)

I ordered the Banh Xeo and the Bun Rieu, really good, solid as heck. Prices are reasonable, and will definitely be coming back.“
